Hello and Happy Friday!
It was fun to check in more frequently with you guys this week. Thank you for reading the recent pregnancy updates and also for the sweet comments. My goal is to share a regular rotation of pregnancy, fitness, food, and city living posts outside of Friday Favorites weekly check-ins as much as possible.
It’s been a tiring week, but I am looking forward to this weekend in particular, as it’s the first one in a long time where Scott and I both have Saturday and Sunday off together! We are trying to take advantage of this time and find a local-ish cider mill to visit tomorrow. Ideally, we’d like to rent a car, take Roadie, and enjoy a day hike while we’re Upstate somewhere. Does anyone have any suggestions? (Bring on all the fall things!)
We’ve also been trying to poll any great areas for these types of activities along with dog-friendly hiking and hotels for the future. Originally, we wanted to get away to Vermont for the weekend, but it just doesn’t seem like it’s in the cards this time. Please let me know if you have any area suggestions in Vermont, New Hampshire, or Maine that we could plan for a future visit to later this season. (Scott and I have never been to those states, so we want to visit them sooner than later while living in NYC!)
I hope y’all have a great weekend, and be sure to scroll to leave what you been loving this week in the comments and link up sections below!
Friday Favorites #186: Week of 10/6
• Hurst Oversized Quilted Throw Blanket
Some of you might recall a similar photo of our master bedroom shared on the blog a while back, but there’s actually a lot that has changed about this space. For one, we are now fully rid of bedbugs (hallelujah!), and the only thing we kept from our previous bedding was the duvet and pillow shams from Crane & Canopy.
During the month it took to get exterminated (twice) and finally put our room back together, we slept in the guest room and purchased all new products for our bed including a mattress protector, pillow top, , and sheets. I took one of our Calvin Klein pillows from the living room (purchased from HomeGoods) and completed the look with a new throw blanket that has been great to protect our duvet while allowing our pets to hang out with us at night.
For years, we’ve thrown whatever pet blanket we have on top of our bedspread to avoid having to wash it every few days, so I thought it was time to invest in a quilted throw that looked a little more put together. I found this one from AllModern a few months ago, and I was excited to put it all together this week.
I love the chevron design and reversible option. Since our rug is a grey and white print as well, we mainly display the teal pattern, but I love having the option to switch it up! New bedding paired with the famous Snoogle has made getting a full night’s sleep a lot easier during the second trimester. (More on that coming soon!)
• Whole Foods Instacart grocery delivery
With Scott traveling frequently, I’ve been on my own for the most part when it comes to hauling groceries back to our apartment, and I thought it was a good time to test out a grocery delivery service to help with carrying unnecessary weight up four flights of stairs. I noticed that Whole Foods advertised free delivery on your first Instacart order, so I decided to place an order this week.
Living in New York City, there are several grocery delivery services to take advantage of, so my plan is to scope them all out and report back with the blog post on what worked best for me. So far, my experience with Whole Foods Instacart was great, and I would definitely order from again.
• Halloween decorated stoops
There aren’t many homes outside of buildings in our Brooklyn neighborhood, but that doesn’t mean that people can’t get creative with the little space that they do have out front. It made me smile to walk past several decorated stoops this week, and as the temperatures slowly lower, it gets me excited to think about the upcoming holiday seasons that are quickly approaching.
Maybe one day Scott and I will have an outside space to decorate, too!
• the return of #TGIT
It’s no secret that I am a total Grey’s Anatomy nerd. I’ve been watching the show since the first season debuted 14 years ago (what?!), and I’ve been hooked on the storyline and drama ever since. Last week debuted the two hour season premier for Grey’s, and I’m pumped to be tuning in to the season premier of Scandal as I type of this blog post. (Can you believe it’s going to be the last season?)
I still haven’t gotten fully on board with How To get away with murder, but I appreciate that #TGIT is back and hopefully better than ever.
Who else is watching?!?
• Doughnut Plant doughnuts
I shared a picture of these wonderful treats on Instagram yesterday, and I couldn’t talk about favorites from the week without mentioning the spread from Doughnut Plant here. A lot of people talk up Dough as the most famous donut shop in New York City, but Scott and I always promote Dought Plant as our local fave when visitors ask for suggestions. There are locations outside of Brooklyn and in Chelsea, the Lower East Side, and Queens.
Pictured is a great example of my bad influence on co-workers when I brought them a variety of goodness including tres leches, Brooklyn blackout, black and white cake, pumpkin, peanut butter and jam, coconut cream, and classic vanilla flavors to celebrate a birthday this week. I guess we burn for doughnuts? 😉

I’m so happy for you and Scott. I’ve been reading your blog for the past three years and was soooo excited to hear your good news. One of my friends who also has been reading for awhile actually spoiled the surprise for me and sent me a text because she was so happy too. ☺️ Those donuts look amazing and I have a feeling you will be getting more and more use of the grocery delivery the further along you get.

The more popular places in ME, NH and VT are all amazing but if you are looking for a few options that wouldn’t be as tourist-heavy try Woodstock, VT, Mountain View Grand Resort in Whitefield, NH and Ogunquit, ME.

Thank you for the suggestions Emily! Have a great weekend 🙂

Coffee cake from doughnut plant is the best and I’m coming for it at the end of this month!!
Kelly @ Kelly Runs For Food
I love that quilt! I’ve been trying to find a cute one that’s not crazy expensive, so I may order that. My hubs and I have a rare day off together on Sunday, too, and I’m so pumped about it. We’ll probably just go to brunch and watch football, but that’s ok haha.

Congrats on your wonderful news! 🙂 Portsmouth, NH is a cute, fun town and only minutes away from the ocean, Maine and great outlets! Highly recommend as a way to see both states!
