Hi friends! Today I wanted to share some of my favorite products that got me through the first trimester of pregnancy.
I’ve quickly learned that how I feel and what I turn to changes very easily, but for the most part, I stuck by the following items for the first twelve weeks and I would highly recommend them all to someone entering this journey.
I’d also love to learn more about what those of you who have children experienced and learned early on in your first trimester of pregnancy (or pregnancies), too. Please feel free to leave your advice and input in the comments section below!
• prenatal vitamins
I’ve been taking prenatal vitamins for years. As soon as we starting trying to get pregnant, I popped whatever prenatal gummy that looked tasty into my mouth. Once I got pregnant, however, I did a little more research.
I ended up going with Rainbow Light Prenantal One Multivitamins because my OB/GYN and my new-mom (and blogger!) friend, Ashley, recommended them. I like that they’re made with plant-source enzymes, ginger juice, and probiotics that support digestion and absorption. In the past, I’ve gotten an upset stomach with vitamins that aren’t chewable, but I haven’t had an issue with these at all.
• seamless bralettes
One of the first pregnancy symptoms I felt was ridiculously tender girls. It wasn’t comfortable wearing sports bras 24/7, so I turned to (seamless) bralettes when I wanted something for support when lounging around.
If I wear any kind of bra to bed at night, it’s definitely something like this, this, or this. While they’re not great to support you for a workout, they’re incredibly comfortable and easy to put on an take off – a true first trimester win!
• granola bars and snacks
Snacks are a pregnant girl’s best friend, am I right?
I experienced pregnancy hunger in full effect during the first trimester, and I would feel nauseous if my snack game wasn’t strong. Since I was eating often, I tried to pack healthy foods for work and stashed things like granola bars, almonds, crackers, and pretzels in my bags whenever I was away from home. I onceate an entire sleeve of saltine crackers because that’s all I could stomach for half of the day. Pregnancy is weird, y’all.
I’m currently loving things like Rxbars, larabars, KIND bars, almond mixes, and crunchy snacks well into the second trimester, too.
• boyfriend jeans
I’ve been a fan of boyfriend jeans since I received a pair in a Stitch Fix delivery and have been loving the style ever since.
KUT from the Kloth // 7 For All Mankind// KUT from the Kloth
Boyfriend jeans were the only jeans that felt good for me to wear towards the end of the first trimester. I was able to get away with wearing my “bigger” jeans for a while (and the rubber band trick is key!), but even my stretchy jeans with an elastic waistband became uncomfortable after hours of wearing them.
• water & bubbles
I couldn’t get enough water early on. I still try to drink more than I did pre-pregnancy, but I actually craved cold water during the first trimester. I tended to drink more throughout the days if I brought my own tumbler or container from home. (Check out some of my favorite water bottles here and here.)
I also really enjoyed any type of sparkling water or bubbly drink to help with nausea. When I was out with friends, I would often order a soda water with lemon to drink if I didn’t feel like a mocktail. Some of my faves include cans of Zevia, La Croix, and San Pellegrino sparkling beverages.
• pregnancy tracking apps
One of my favorite things to do when entering a new week is check in with my apps.
Glow Nurture // I’m Expecting // What To Expect
I started using Glow while we were trying to conceive, and the app suggested that I move over to Glow Nurture once we got pregnant. Here is where I track my symptoms, read articles about subjects that relate to my pregnancy week, and browse the community forums to learn more and possibly even answer some questions I might have. I use the calendar when planning my doctors appointments, since it’s easy to see what week I will be where until our baby arrives.
I enjoy the informational videos on the baby’s development on I’m Expecting, and I recently downloaded What To Expect for more videos, community talk, product suggestions, and answer sections.
Someone recommended Ovia to me last week and I just downloaded that, too. What stood out to me about Ovia was the ability to search common questions about food safety (it alphabetically lists everything you can and can’t have to make daily decisions easier to make) and calendar. I’m looking forward to exploring it more and might switch over completely!
• chapstick & lip balms
This may sounds like an odd favorite, but it’s something I used multiple times a day, every day. Pregnancy thirst, much?
I always carried chapstick waiting for me when I got ready in the morning, after I brushed my teeth, after a shower, and in my purses and gym backpack to make sure that my lips felt hydrated. My favorites were (and still are) eos, Burt’s Bees, and Maybelline Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Balms for a pop of color.
• high waisted leggings
While there wasn’t a bump present, there was certainly a bloat throughout the first twelve weeks. I could get away with the majority of my leggings collection for a good while, but Weeks 9-12 had me reaching for the high wasted options over and over.
Since I work at a fitness studio, I live in leggings (life in leggings, eh?) and would constantly re-adjust my bottoms throughout the day. When I wore high wasted leggings over the bump, however, I felt much more comfortable.
lululemon Wunder Under High-Rise //Reebok Dance Linear High Rise // Old Navy High Rise Yoga Legging
Since I hadn’t purchased any maternity leggings yet, I lived in these lululemon tights (on sale for $69 in blue!), a pair of Reebok tights (similar), and a cotton pair of Chico’s leggings. I also love these crops and own them in two colors.
• Netflix & naps
This one may sound silly, but I’m being completely serious.
While I was dealing with some heavy morning (or often times, night) sickness in the first ten or so weeks, the only thing I wanted to do was get cozy on the couch and relax as much as possible. I swear, I’d make plans to do a million things and then *BOOM* my body said no. The more I gave in to listening to my body and giving it the rest it needed, the better I felt. Netflix became a great friend!
Looking back, I’m so glad that I rested as much as I did. I felt tired all the time. Growing a human is no joke!
• mints & hard candy
I’m not really a ginger fan, so while most pregnant women go for the ginger candies to ease nausea, I went for mints and hard candy. I specifically liked peppermint candies, because the mint seemed to help more than anything.
• pregnancy books
Some of the standards that I’ve collected so far include:
What To Expect When You’re Expecting pretty much says it all in the title. I haven’t gotten through much of it yet, but it sure is a handy resource when I have a question about anything related to pregnancy. I especially like how it breaks down chapters into months to read in real time and shares helpful tips and tidbits about what you’re experiencing.
On the other end of the spectrum, Jenny Mccarthy’s Belly Laugh is a lighthearted book that breaks down the real nitty gritty of pregnancy. It’s an extremely easy read that is less than 200 pages and had me laughing through it all!
Dude, You’re Gonna Be a Dad! offers helpful tips for both mom and dad on what to expect and digest as the pregnancy gets more and more real month after month. I haven’t cracked into this one yet, but it looks informative and funny from what I’ve skimmed.
I would love to hear about the pregnancy books you all read during your pregnancies, too. (Please share in the comments section below!)
• popsicles
Besides craving pickles or anything salty, I had a serious love for popsicles in the first trimester. In fact, I still do! I try to buy as natural as possible or even make my own.

Book wise I loved Expecting Better, it’s all research based and goes into detail on all the different things you get told to do or not do when pregnant. I drank the pregnancy teas too, it did help with heartburn!

I love reading your pregnancy posts :). I had a baby in January, so I feel like all of this stuff is fresh in my mind!! But I got a ton of great maternity stuff from Old Navy and from Stitch Fix. My normal stitch fix boxes are usually kind of meh, but they were sooo much better when I requested maternity stuff. They sent me the best pair of black maternity jeans and some looser tops that I wore pregnant and then for a little bit postpartum. I’d recommend! In terms of pregnancy tea, I drank the Yogi brand that was specifically geared towards pregnancy and really liked it. And then once I hit 35 weeks I started drinking it like 3x day because I was obsessed with doing anything that might help induce labor haha! But I’d do a quick google search on what herbs you shouldn’t have during pregnancy – I was surprised by a lot of them and had to avoid some of my regular teas. Thankfully, my doctor approved coffee when I hit the 2nd trimester so I just went back to having my Starbucks in the mornings! Lastly, this is more of a 2nd trimester thing, but I started leaking colostrum early on (like maybe 25 weeks). I know that doesn’t happen to everyone, but I would recommend ordering some nursing pads now to have on hand just in case that happens to you! But anyways- I’m so happy for you. You’re going to be a great mom! 🙂

i purchased the preggie pops too in my pregnancy ….but I actually had found that I could save the money and jolly ranchers pretty much did the same 🙂
I also wore my normal jeans the first few months..but then I had to switch to maternity jeans…I actually loved Jessica simpson skinny maternity jeans…I tried on a bunch and always went back to those.
as far as the snuggle goes I liked it in the beginning but then towards my 7-8 mth nothing helped. sleep got horrible. Everyone said that was just preparing me for motherhood! and they were right! Enjoy this time…it goes so fast. My son turned 1 year old on Friday 🙂 So happy for you guys! it will change your life in every way possible. But its the greatest gift.!

I use the Ovia pregnancy app currently and absolutely love it!
Glad to hear you are feeling better and this was a lovely post!

I saw on pinterest earlier today a recipe for everything bagel chicken. It looks like they used the seasoning that you mentioned the other day and baked the chicken. Just wanted to let you know since you’ve been enjoying it!

That bralette is super cute! More parenting than pregnancy, but I love Bringing Up Bebe.

Oh my gosh, this post brought back serious first trimester memories. I was in my first trimester this time last year (my daughter is 4 months now). I lived on Whole Foods brand cheese-its, sparkling water, lemonade and orange juice. Occasionally pizza. It was a rough time! I really like the What to Expect community forums on the app. I still browse it almost every day.
