I apologize if you experienced a delay in accessing the site today. The server has been slow and even down throughout the morning, but it looks like the issues have resolved themselves. (Fingers crossed!)
Hello! I am coming to you after a long and relaxing Mother’s Day Weekend. It was great.
How was yours? I hope the mothers out there got a little spoiled. You all sure deserve it!
With a prediction of rainfall throughout the weekend, we weren’t expecting to be able to get outdoors too much, so I was pumped when our race remained (mostly) rain-free on Saturday. My friend Nichole ran with me, so she drove down early and spent Friday night with us. We were all hungry after full days of work, so we hopped in the car as soon as Scott got home and drove down Rochester Road to try somewhere new.
Camp Ticonderoga
After passing this restaurant a handful of times, we finally decided to give it a go.
The name, Camp Ticonderoga, instantly reminded me of Camp Annawana from Salute Your Shorts. Please tell me I’m not the only one who was obsessed with that show as a kid! (Ugg Lee, where you at?)
The environment was pretty neat. It was a casual, open space that resembled a ski lodge. There were sitting areas with couches, an upstairs party area, televisions, and plenty of animals decorating the walls.
We were impressed at the wide variety of options on the menu. From American barbecue and cuisine to Mexican specialties, they have a little something for everyone.
We started with a round of house-made sangrias and an order of their cheesy bread, per Scott’s request, and the portions were anything but small.
It was good, but almost too cheesy and saucy for me. I ordered the lobster ravioli from the daily specials menu for my entrée, so I saved most of my cheese overkill for that.
It was really good! I only got through about half the plate, so I was looking forward to digging back into it later the next day.
The restaurant was surprisingly quiet for a Friday night, so we made a lap upstairs to see the rest of it. We all enjoyed the laid-back atmosphere and plan to return again.
We found the dog wall on the way out the door! How cute are these mugs?
The entire front room was covered with pictures from the restaurant workers and guests over the years. Isn’t that fun? Next time we come in, I’ll be sure to ask if Mr. Roadie can somehow weasel his puppy eyes into a spot. <3
Saturday started early with a trip downtown to run Color Me Rad at the Detroit Riverfront!
I’ll be back to share more stories, details, and what I learned for my next color run later this afternoon. It was a blast!
Oddly enough, Scott was working his own color run in Lake Orion, so we didn’t see him again until we were home, showered, and dressed for the day. Nichole set out for a lunch date while I enjoyed taking it easy at home. It was nice to grab a seat on the couch and chill out!
We had plans to meet up with some friends for dinner and a movie, so we drove over to Lake Orion around dinnertime. Our friend Alex, ordered carry-out pizza from Kruse & Muer (so good!), and we rounded everything out with a trip down the street to Eva’s.
Oh my goodness, Eva’s!
It was my first official visit to Eva’s Dairy Cafe, and I had only heard extreme hype from all of my fellow Michiganders. Known for handmade ice cream, frozen yogurt, sundaes, cyclones, shakes, floats and more, there is always long line to get to the order window.
I finally found out why!
I ordered the rice krispy treat concrete (rice crispies, ice cream, marshmallow fluff, and chocolate chips), and it was quite possibly the best ice cream I’d ever tasted. It was so dreamy! The four of us enjoyed our cups (and cone) on the way over to see The Avengers.
I’m pretty sure I was in a food coma by that point, and while the movie was thoroughly entertaining, I somehow fell asleep a couple of times, 3-D glasses on and all. It’s fine, and it wasn’t the movie’s fault.
Stoney Creek Metropark
Sunday was a mix of on-and-off rain all day long.
Scott and I caught the mid-morning service at church, then planned to enjoy the rest of our afternoon outdoors. As soon as we changed into comfortable clothes, we set out for Stoney Creek Metropark in Shelby Township. As soon as we hit the road, however, the rain picked up.
It costs $7 per vehicle per visit, so we finally caved and bought the annual pass for $30. We are looking forward to visiting the park and beaches a lot more this summer and year!
Since it was still sprinkling, we drove around the property to check things out for future trips. We had been to one of their beaches before, so we wanted to see what else we could plan to do there. There’s lots!
On top of regular golf, there is a disc golf course that takes you on a path of challenges. Intriguing, right?
As we looped around the grounds, we pulled up to the Nature Center. It stopped raining as soon as we parked, so we took that as a sign to walk up and check it out.
We were the only couple there without kids ohh-ing and ahh-ing over the (mostly reptile) animals, but we still enjoyed the experience for ourselves. It was neat to see animals, and it was cool to see the waterflow of the entire park!
We noticed a sign for an overlook on our way back, so we made a short walk down to it.
The view was stunning. This is the definition of Pure Michigan, my friends!
With a collection of hiking trails, beaches, picnic areas, and activities going on throughout the summer, I know we will be putting our annual park pass to good use this year.
It started raining agin on our way back home, so I spent the rest of the day getting some things done around the house while Scott left for practice. It was a cozy little Sunday, and the perfect end to the holiday weekend.

What did you do this weekend?
Was the weather on your side to enjoy something outdoors?
I’d love to hear about some of your weekend highlights in the comments section. I’m off to work, but I’ll see y’all back here later today with highlights from our color run!
Brie @ Lean, Clean, & Brie
I am running the half marathon at Stony Creek next weekend and I did one of my long runs there as it was my first time ever visiting the metropark and I loved all the beauty of it! Such a beautiful place to visit and so many things to do! I could not believe how big it was!
Heather
I know! I’m sure it will take many trips before we really discover everything to do there. I also ran a fun run there two summers ago. I can’t believe how long it took us to get back! Best of luck on your half next weekend!!
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul

Sarah
What a fun weekend! It looks like y’all made a good decision in purchasing the annual pass to the Metropark. What a neat place! That ice-cream sounds delicious!! I think it’s kinda funny that it’s called “concrete!” 🙂
Heather
Haha, seems appropriate, considering I felt like a tub of concrete after eating it! Ha!
courtalkek
I’m really bad about falling asleep in movies and for some reason ones with 3D glasses are the hardest for me to stay awake in. That ice cream sounds amazinggg.
Lindsey
I used to drive by that restaurant all the time when my husband used to live in Rochester while we were dating. Now i wish we had tried it when he lived in that area! YUM!
