The holidays are officially upon us!
Scott and I were invited to attend a Christmas Cookie Decorating Party over the weekend. It was the second year of a now annual event hosted by our friends Christian and Victoria. It was fun to attend a themed-out get together, and we had a blast!
Isn’t her snowman dress/costume hilarious? She pinned the black buttons on a white fuzzy dress and stuffed the bottom with panty hose!
Scott and I saw the party as the perfect excuse to wear our Tipsy Elves ugly Christmas sweaters I shared a couple of weeks ago.
(Men’s T-Rex Sweater & Women’s Flirty Flamingo Sweater… quick note, you might want to order up a size if you don’t care for a tight fit! I ordered an XS – and based my choice off of their size chart – but, I would have much preferred a size Small instead.)
When we were invited to the party, we heard rumors that last year’s competition got pretty intense. This year’s Christmas Cookie Decorating Party not only turned into a contest, but a rivalry.
We were split up into three teams: Snowmen vs. Elves vs. Reindeer. We all decorated our individual cookies, and then the team that ended up with the most winning votes at the end were deemed the winners.
We could tell they went all out and that it was going to be a great time as soon as we walked into their home!
There were pre-made (vegan-friendly) sugar cookies, tables, rows of icing and sprinkle options, props, and even costume accessories for those who needed to add a little holiday flare to their outfit.
We gathered around their projector television to chat with popular Christmas movies on in the background, all the while drinking spiked hot apple cider. Despite the unusual heat wave and temperatures in the mid-50s that night, Holiday Spirit filled the room!
Once most of the guests arrived, we randomly picked our teams and were given the rules. Each person was to decorate two (or more) cookies according to themes.
The first challenge was “Wintery Stripes”.
Scott took this literally and impressed us all with an entire wintery cookie scene starring the Detroit Tiger’s mascot, Paws.
There were plenty of classically decorated cookies, and I loved the pretty hearts and ugly sweaters I would actually wear.
I got the idea to recreate the whole “is the dress black and blue or white and gold?” debacle. Don’t ask me how, haha, it just came to me. I enjoyed decorating my themed-out cookie and finished it off with sugary toppings like chocolate chips and snowflakes.
The second round called for “Naughty or Nice” and… I don’t feel comfortable sharing most of them. I can tell you, however, that I laughed really, really hard at some of the entries. Let’s just say that a lot of them resembled cookies or cakes you would see at a Bachelorette Party and leave it at that. 😉
We were allowed to make as many cookies as we wanted, but could only submit two for judging, one under the “Wintery Stripes” category, and the other under the “Naughty or Nice” category. Each cookie was labeled with a number, and we all cast our votes for the best cookie in several categories including “Classiest Cookie”, “Sloppiest Cookie”, “MVP Cookie”, and so on.
The competition was fierce, y’all. There were a lot of great entries, and it was a challenge to choose just one cookie for each title.
Scott ended up coming away with two prizes! He represented the Hesingtons well.
We rounded out the night with a White Elephant Gift Exchange. Each person was asked to bring a gift (or even a re-gift) with a value up to $20, and everyone put their gifts in the middle. One by one (in numerical order), one guest picked a gift to unwrap from the middle or stole an already opened gift from somebody else.
Scott and I teamed up and had Number 10, the last (and most valuable) number there was. We stole a great solar iPhone charger from a friend, and he was forced to go back to the pile and select the last gift. It was so fun!
Thanks for inviting us to join in on the Cookie Decorating Party Rivalry this year, friends!
Questions of the Day
• Have you ever attended a themed-out holiday party?
• What kind of cookie design would you make for “Wintery Stripes?”
The majority of the photos featured in this post were taken by our talented friends at FYT Productions. Thank you for letting me include them in this recap!

Ha, isn’t it great? We were blown away by all of the effort they put into it. So fun! And yes, that snowman costume is amazing!
Jen @ Pretty Little Grub
What a fun idea. I’ve never heard of anything like this. My creativity and ability to decorate is basically zero, so I would not fare so well.

Don’t worry, Jen, mine didn’t compare to most others. 😉

What a fun idea! We are doing a Favorite Things and Cookie Exchange tomorrow which will be fun 🙂 Next year we may have to do something like this though. So creative!
Heather
That sounds like a great party idea, have fun!
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West
I was about to compliment you on the FABULOUS photography hahaha, but I see that your friends are the ones to be thanked. How awesome! And you guys really had some competition there. Very impressed with the cookies. I like it when people can get into holiday activities like this. So fun!

Haha, thanks! No, I couldn’t take credit for that. First, I would need an upgraded (like x1000) camera, and then I would need someone to show me how to use it. One day. 😉
Anna @ THE POSH BODY
What a fun idea to have it be a contest. If i’m being honest, my wintery stripes cookie would probably be as much vanilla buttercream (the best part!) as I could fit on a cookie with some sprinkles in “stripes” 🙂

Vanilla buttercream frosting – YUM!

What a fun party! I totally want to recreate this with my group of friends. I can imagine people got pretty creative, especially with the naughty/nice category lol. I’m envious of your cool weather, it’s 80 degrees here in Florida. I would gladly take some temperatures in the 50s so it feels a little more festive. No colder than that though 😉
