Hello out there! How are you doing?
It’s crazy to think that we’ve now been in a shelter-in-placer status for eight weeks in New York. A lot of other parts of the country are slowly opening up, but things are still on lockdown here in the city. I hope those of you who are slowly going out and about are staying safe and healthy out there!
I shared a highs and lows post last week, so I figured a round up of favorites was due today. Being in quarantine makes me feel like I’m living in Groundhog’s Day most days, and I’m sure I’m not the only one experiencing that. It’s weird, it’s rough, and it’s something we’ve never had to deal with before. Just remember that we are all in this together and just doing our best to get through it! And you, my friend, are doing enough.
As we keep navigating our way through the madness, I hope to lighten your day when you click over, even if it’s just for a minute as you scroll through through this post. Here are a few things that have brightened my week.

Cheers to all of you, and especially the mommas out there who will be celebrating Mother’s Day on Sunday. I hope you enjoy a few moments to yourself, a hot cup of coffee (or tea), and whatever brings you joy at home these days.
Here we go!
CURRENT FAVES — QUARANTINE Week 8
- views while running over the Brooklyn Bridge
The highlight of my week happened yesterday, as I ran across the Brooklyn Bridge from start to finish! This is something that has been on my bucket list since I can remember, and I had never attempted it before since the bridge is usually filled with many people who stop to take pictures every step of the way. Well, what better time than during a shelter-in-place when the streets are empty and you’re allowed that limited time outdoors to exercise?
We live exactly 3.5 miles from the center point of the bridge into Manhattan, so I took the challenge to run there, cross into Manhattan, and then had an additional burst of energy to go see One World Trade before I looped back. It was chilling to see without people in front of it.

I paused my watch when I was stuck waiting for traffic for several minutes, and forgot to unpause it for a bit … so I’m going to say the 8 miles my tracker showed was really more like 8.5 miles from start to finish. It’s the longest I’ve run post-baby since my days of training for half marathons!

It wasn’t easy, but there were a lot of breaks built in while waiting for lights to change and traffic to break when crossing streets. Because of this, I didn’t walk as much as I thought I would have to, and I felt awesome after it was all said in done.

To be clear, I also felt some aches and pains. I’m about ten years older than I was when I started running long distances, and my knees feel it after a few miles in. I’m making sure that I warm up, cool down, and stretch afterwards with a refueling protein smoothie.
I’ve learned a lot about life during this time of quarantine, and one thing is that we are a lot stronger than we give ourselves credit for. Scott and I are no strangers to life coming at us and turning on a dime, and this is no exception. We still don’t have a clear answer as to what the next few weeks, months, or years will look like for us, and that’s okay. God’s got us!
One of my favorite parts about running is the time I get to think, listen to music, zone out, and soak up the beauty around me. It’s something that I don’t get to do at home a lot, so it’s a big reason why I like to get out on stroller walks with the boys and solo runs when I can.

Yesterday reminded me how beautiful this city can be in the midst of chaos. Thank you, New York, for always being there for driven and optimistic hearts!
- bubbles
Bubbles were a big hit this week! Skyler has always loved bubbles, but this week was the first time he’s showed interest in blowing them which rocked his world. He definitely has some work to do, but it’s keeping us busy during our park time in mornings.

For now, we’re waving the wand back and forth and making one small bubble at a time.
- recent recipe wins
We’ve been in the kitchen a lot over the past few months! I usually share my recipe wins that I try and love on social, and here’s a quick look into a few of them that I will certainly make again.
Instant Pot Pad Thai — The Buttered Blondie

Parmesan Pesto Spaghetti Squash With Shrimp — Peas and Crayons

Healthy & Hearty Breakfast Casserole — Life In Leggings

(I shared this one earlier in the week, and it would be a great one to make ahead for meal prep or Mother’s Day!)
- Beautycounter new client special & referral program
If you’ve never ordered from Beautycounter, I don’t know when a better time would be. You’re home, you might be bored, and you could most certainly use a few minutes to yourself for some self-care every day.
New clients will get 20% off of their first order until 5/31! This is higher than any discount I’ve seen offered before, and it doesn’t exclude regimens/collections, or the Flawless In Five, which is normally the case. Follow the steps below to shop around with that discount, and reach out for suggestions I can provide for any starting point and budget.

Simply go to the website and click the that says “sign up” button at the top of the page that offers the promo. Add in your email and then a code will be sent to you to use on the order. (Make sure to check your junk folder).
Existing client and members, I haven’t forgotten about you! Right now I’m offering a referral program to help thank you for spreading the word of clean beauty.
If you refer a friend to me or who makes a purchase through my links, I will cover $10 off of your next order! Just let me know their name, and once they order I will coordinate how to get the credit over to you.
If you’d like to chat about anything related to skincare or clean beauty, I seriously love talking about this and would love to speak with you! Message me or email beautycounter@lifeinleggings.com and we’ll talk through how to get you started on any budget.
- last week’s workouts
Here’s a peek into what last week’s workouts looked like. I generally take a long walk with Skyler and Roadie every morning, so I guess that all adds up for active recovery.
The past week included two strength training days and longer than normal runs outside. Ideally, I would include another (low-impact) strength day to include Pilates, barre, yoga, or something of that nature. Maybe I’ll actually put my workout plan together for the next week coming up!
Friday: 4 mile run through the park
Saturday: Superset Strength Workout With Resistance Bands
Sunday: REST – extra long walk through the park with the family
Monday: 4 mile run through the park
Tuesday: REST
Wednesday: 30-Minute Full-Body Strength-Training Workout With Weights + 30-Minute Strength Training Workout With Dumbbells via POPSUGAR Fitness. I don’t usually do two workouts back to back, but it had been several days since I lifted weights and I wasn’t ready to stop. The first workout concentrates on eccentric movements and the second includes a lot of HIIT. Both kicked my booty in different ways.
Thursday: 8.5 mile run to Manhattan and back – yowza!
I went to bed sore after that run last night, so I’ll be taking a rest day today that will include a walk through the park and some stretching and foam rolling. I’m looking forward to getting a strength workout in on Saturday.
