Good morning! It’s Fri-yay! Do you have any exciting plans for the weekend?
Scott and I don’t have much on the radar, but I am hoping we can take advantage of this gorgeous end-of-summer weather and get outside for most of it. I’ll be teaching tomorrow morning, but the rest of Saturday and all of Sunday are up for grabs. We’ve also been itching to get out and go see a movie. Any suggestions?
To help get us all through the day and ready for the weekend, let’s have some fun and dive right into this week’s edition of Friday Favorites. Don’t forget to share some things you have been loving this week too by linking up and chiming in via the comments section!
Friday Favorites #103: Week of 8/21
• my first Alex & Ani bracelet
I have adored bracelets for a couple of years now, but just haven’t convinced myself that I need them enough to buy any for myself. I complimented a collection that a sweet client of mine had on the other day (she eventually took them off to train), and we got into a conversation about all of the different charm bangles and styles.
Monday afternoon, she walked into the gym and giddily came towards me with a black and gold gift bag. She said she made a trip to the store to pick up a new bangle the weekend before, and couldn’t leave without getting one for me too.
She picked out the that means Positivity, Abundance, Faith. The hand is worn as a defense against negative energy and promotes healing and miracles. While I get to know my clients pretty well, she had no idea what has been going on in our personal lives, and I couldn’t help but get teary-eyed. It was perfect. I thanked her at least a handful of times throughout the session and thought she was so incredibly thoughtful to go out of her way to think of me.
I am excited about growing my collection of bangles and have a feeling I will smile every time I look down at them!
• these vegan cookies
I hadn’t been inside of the rock climbing gym more than a few minutes on Wednesday before Scott and a few of our friends met me at the lobby, all of which made sure to point out how delicious the cookies near the front checkout are. The brand is Alternate Backing Company, they feature a variety of scrumptious flavors, and they are all one hundred percent vegan.
Amazing Almond MuffinCookie With Anise & Luscious Lemon Poppyseed Cookie flavors
Coming from someone who is a skeptic of all vegan baked goods (Scott), it says a lot that he would enthusiastically suggest that I try them. We made sure to pick up a pair on our way out and… oh my gosh you guys. You need to try them. As soon as possible.
You can find them , but I think the best prices are actually through their website. (Just FYI, they sell all of their cookies in packages of 5 and there is a 3-package minimum upon ordering if you want to avoid a minimum order fee.) #worthit
• Yankee Candle votive candles
It’s no secret that I am a candle fiend. The good news is that I married someone who is equally as obsessed with buying and lighting them.
I walked into the bathroom the other day to find new and colorful votive candles in our countertop candelabra. (We got this one – I believe from Pier 1 Imports? – as an engagement present from my brother eons ago!)
I’m not positive, but I believe we also picked up a multi-color gift set of Yankee Candle votive candles on a random trip into the same store years ago. We’ve been doing our best to slowly clean out closets, cabinets, and desk drawers (just in case a quick move comes into our future), and it made me smile to walk in and see the long lost candles I vaguely remember buying with him in Orlando lit the other night.
You can find similar (well-priced) gift sets of votive candles onlineand !
• the warm (not hot) & breezy weather
The weather we have been having in Metro Detroit this week (it’s a high of 80 and low of 55 today) reminds me of the very beginning of fall. I might regret saying this, but I am allll about it right now. Scott and I went for a run with Roadie through the trails yesterday, and we couldn’t get over how awesome it felt outside. It was so pretty.
Although it was sunny, there was a cool breeze in the air that kept us comfortable. I barely sweat after three miles! It was a glorious feeling I hope doesn’t disappear anytime soon.
I can only assume this is the type of weather that people living in Northern California experience on a daily basis. If so, I’m moving. Immediately.
• hard root beer
Our friend Adam has been coming over to watch an episode of Big Brother at least once a week since the summer season debuted. We got him hooked on the show last year, so it’s become a tradition to watch some of the episodes together.
He usually arrives with some sort of snack or treat in hand, and this week he brought over Coney Island Hard Root Beer and vanilla ice cream to make (hard) root beer floats.
Have you ever seen such a thing?
Oh man. I cracked open a bottle and didn’t even need the ice cream! The (5.8% ABV) root beer has a strong flavor that includes hints of vanilla, licorice, and birch, and I knocked one out way too fast. Surprisingly enough, you can find these bottles in CVS, Kroger, Wal-Mart, Meijer, Sam’s Club and other retailers near you. Good stuff!
• Almay liquid eyeliner
Every now and then, I will get an occasional compliment on the way I do my eyeliner. I have been doing the same 5-minute makeup routine for years (which often includes slapping it on without much thought or strategy), so it surprises me every time it happens.
If you’re up for seeing a super throwback video tutorial of what I’m talking about, have at it. Just don’t make fun of me for the awesome music in the background. You’ve been warned!
Anyways, the eyeliner I mention in the video is a combination of and Almay Liquid Liner in black. Over the past couple of years, I’ve stopped replacing the eye pencil and go straight for a quick swoop of liquid liner. I’ve tried several high-end versions of liner, and I always come back to replacing them with an Almay or product you can find at any large grocery or drug store. I love the control the pointed tip gives, and with enough practice, I believe anyone can use it!

Today we are mixing things up with animal gifs! Because why not?
All three of these came from this Buzzfeed article and made me legitimately laugh out loud.
Enjoy!
There really are two types of squirrels, y’all.
And those cats. Haha! That’s why we have two of them. <3

I totally second the Almay liquid eyeliner! I was lucky enough to find it years ago and tried TONS of liquid eyeliners, before and after that. They don’t even compare to Almay! I love the way it goes on so easily! It’s the best!

Loving that bracelet!! Your client has good taste. And I am obsessed with Yankee Candle! Love their scents. I may have a problem…haha. Hard root beer is amazing, especially in float form. We have a restaurant in my town that makes them and they are amazing. If you ever make it to the Chicago suburbs I’ll take ya. 😉 Have a wonderful weekend, Heather!

Thanks Beth! I love Yankee Candles too… a little too much. I usually try to buy them in bulk when they go on mega-clearance so I don’t spend my entire paychecks on scents. 😉 Ahhh I bet that restaurant gets lots of hard root beer float orders. Yum! Thanks for linking up, and have a great weekend!

I absolutely love rootbeer, but havent found an alcoholic version that I like yet. I’ll have to try that one out! I’m right with you loving these warm days with cool breezes. It’s the best, and if the temp could just stay where it is I would be very happy 🙂 I’m thinking about going to see Dark Places since I read the book, but it’s been getting really bad reviews. Might be something I wait for it to be on Red Box to see!
