Good morning and a very Happy Friday to you!
I, for one, am really looking forward to the weekend. While it may not seem like we are into the regular work-week swing just yet, I assure you that we have been keeping plenty busy.
We will be attending a show in the city this afternoon, and then plan on taking Roadie to a “Meet and Greet” later tonight. (More on that next week!) I’m excited that plans for Saturday and Sunday consist of organizing and gearing up for our upcoming trip to Orlando. Unpacking has been a really slow process, so I hope to make some progress over the next few days.
In true end-of-the-week fashion, we are discussing Friday Favorites on the blog today! Every week, I take a look back at what I have been loving and what made me smile throughout the week, and I always invite you to share your faves in the comments and link-up sections, too.
Friday Favorites #139: Week of 4/29
• birthday blooms
I got a surprise delivery this week, and it came in the form of fresh flowers. I had a clue that something was coming when I received a text message from a random number in the mid-morning asking if I would be home for a delivery. Good news, I was!
I have mentioned The Bouqs on the blog before, and this is my second time receiving a bouquet from them. I love that they come wrapped up in brown paper, similar to what you would find at a farmer’s market. At first I thought they looked like they wouldn’t last more than a few days, but they really opened and bloomed, thanks to the plant food that came with the bouquet and their home by the sunny window in the kitchen.
Thanks so much for the flowers, Alex! They made my day. <3
• birthday celebration in the city
Speaking of my birthday (it was Monday, and you didn’t hear from me because I was papers deep in making a blogging portfolio in preparation for a job interview), I had a great night celebrating!
Scott surprised me with a trip to New York City for my 30th last year, so it was neat to be able to spend my birthday in the same place, only as a resident this time. I hung at a coffee shop for a few hours after my interview to get some work done, and then met my friend, Lauren, by Columbus Circle for some pre-dinner drinks.
I didn’t take more than a couple photos of the night, but rest assured that we all had a great time! Lauren and I met up with two of my friends (shout out to our Orlando Magic family) for dinner at Tavola, and eventually, Scott and our friend, Jay, joined us.
We bounced around different spots for the night, and I went to bed in the early hours of the morning feeling very loved. And full.
I sure do miss my friends and family in Orlando and Detroit, but it’s really nice to already have people up here, too. Thank you for celebrating with me!
• BCBGeneration slingbacks
The last pair of heels that I featured on the blog are one of three black pumps I own now, thanks to this steal I found over the weekend.
I was in the market for a closed-toed heel that was dressy enough for a professional outfit, wasn’t too high, and also comfortable enough to wear in the city while walking around. I snagged these BCBGeneration slingbacks from as soon as I saw them for $49!
, , similar
They have a slight snake skin pattern (that looks a lot more obvious in this light than to the naked eye), but I figured it would be subtle enough to do the job. I also chose a wide size to add a little more room for comfort, and I have gotten the flats to commute, heels to event routine down.
• park workouts
If you follow me on snapchat (username: lifenleggings), then you already know how obsessed I am with Prospect Park. Scott and I feel very fortunate to live just blocks away from it, and we end up making a trip over to walk Roadie, work out, or run almost every day. We’re spoiled, and that’s perfectly fine by me.
The park offers roadways for runners, bikers, and walkers, and it’s exactly 3.35 miles around the full loop. Yesterday was my first run on the roadway, and it took us through so many beautiful surroundings. I loved it!
After our run, Scott, Roadie, and I headed over to the fitness area to complete some push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, and squats. Well, Roadie watched … obviously. (My Snapchat shows it all! Ha.)
I’ve already completed a few workouts in this area, and I have one to share with you soon when I get my act together and document it with photos. I realize that most people don’t have access to decline push-up bars and such, so I kept it pretty basic with a park bench. Stay tuned!
• OGX aragon oil shampoo and conditioner
I have been in the market for a new (affordable) shampoo and conditioner that hydrates my hair and leaves it feeling soft and healthy after each wash for a bit. When Scott and I were staying at our friend’s house a few weeks ago, I finally tried the Organix line I have been eyeing, and I loved it!
He had the and set, so I went with that. It smells great and makes my hair so silky and smooth! (<- Billy Madison reference, anyone?) You can’t really beat the under $10 price (per product), either. A definite win!

I”m glad that I finally got to go to NYC, which makes me just a *touch* less jealous of your NYC posts. Who am I kidding, it makes me more jealous that you get to stay there! We will be spending our weekend packing, which we haven’t started, and we need to get basically done because we move the next weekend! #challengeaccepted. Have a fabulous weekend, Heather!

Thanks Jess! I actually had the interview on Monday, so we will see if they liked me soon 😉 I’m looking forward to trying other versions … the coconut milk shampoo and conditioner is next on my lest! Enjoy Vermont 🙂
Heather @Fitncookies
Happy late birthday! I hope the interview went well. I don’t even know where to begin with a blogging portfolio! I had a teaching portfolio so maybe that’s the same. Jealous you live Prospect park. Looks like such a great escape.
Heather
Thanks Heather! Yeah, that was quite a task. I basically turned my blog posts into word documents and chose about 5 campaigns to print out, along with a few writing examples and collages of social media graphics. It took a while, but is great to have on hand now that I’m looking to work in the social media/marketing industry. Enjoy the weekend!

Kelly @ Kelly Runs For Food
Happy late birthday! Looks like it was a blast. Plus, love that you have that park so close to you. I think park workouts are so fun, but I usually have to drive to get to mine.
I discovered Trader Joe’s hair products a few years ago and became obsessed. They smell like spa products and have all natural ingredients, but they’re only $4 each.
Have a great weekend!

We’ve definitely fallen for the city! Happy Weekend!
Patricia @Sweet and Strong
So jealous that you have those beautiful parks to run and do workouts in. Major downside of living in a suburb is I just do boring runs around my neighborhood. I love people watching and being around others trying to stay in shape or get fit.

I’ve spent many, many years running the suburbs. It’s nice to have quiet neighborhood runs from time to time! 😉

Ashley @ A Lady Goes West
How nice you have a little slice of Orlando in NY! And that last funny with the white dog — that literally happens to us. Rudy blends into the blanket and bed, and sometimes it’s hard to see him ahahha! Happy weekend, Heather! 🙂

Happy birthday! Those are some gorgeous flowers!
Not going to lie, I’m a teensy bit jealous of the parks and everything NYC has to offer. Nothing beats working out while enjoying nature and sightseeing at the same time! 🙂
