Good morning, and Happy Friday!
It’s time for some faves and giggles with my favorite post of the week!
Every Friday, I share what I have been loving lately and host a link-up for Friday Favorites. I take a look back at the week and share new finds, informative articles, or just some things that made me smile.
I always love hearing what has made your week, and I invite you to share those highlights in the comments section. If you are a blogger, make sure to look for the blue Inlinkz button at the bottom and link up your own #FFavorites posts, too!
Friday Favorites #154: Week of 8/12
• stocking up on home “essentials”
If you follow LIL on Instagram or Snapchat (username: lifenleggings), then you already know that I received a package that made me pretty happy yesterday. It was from Bath & Body Works, and it was filled with #allthescents.
I took advantage of an online sale and stocked up on soaps for the bathroom and kitchen, wallflowers, anti-bacterial hand sanitizers (a must when using public transit), and a couple of candles. I mentioned my habit of doing this in a post on budgeting this week, and here is a perfect example of how a great discount makes my day. I took a chance on a few new-to-me scents that were on sale, and they all smell great.
I can justify filling up my cart a little more if I get items half off with an additional 25% off of my entire cart, right? It sure beats running to the store and paying more when I run out of things!
• Honey (promo code plug-in)
Speaking of sales and discounts, have you ever heard of the new promo code plug-in called Honey?
Simply install the plug-in (mine went directly to my bookmarks toolbar), and it notifies you of any online promo codes for the site you’re on before you check out! Once you select “Try Codes”, it applies every code it finds on coupon sites for you and selects the best one to use. It’s that easy.
It picked up the 25% off my entire order code on the top banner of my Bath & Body Works order, and put that towards my purchase after searching nearly 30 other ones to make sure it was the best one.
There’s also an option to earn money back whenever you use the Honey extension. You earn points and can redeem them for cash. You can check out more information on their cash back program if you’re interested. I’m loving it!
• Bay Ridge, Brooklyn
Scott and I finally ventured down to Bay Ridge, Brooklyn and explored the area with some friends who live there last night.
I didn’t capture the best photo of one of the main streets, but I thought it was charming. It had a “small town in a big city” feel, and 3rd Avenue was lined with so many great local businesses and restaurants. It was anything but commercialized, and it felt like a breath of fresh air in the midst of the normal busyness and honking of City streets.
We met them for a cook out at their apartment, and we walked down to Little Cupcake Bakeshop for dessert. The shop is known for their cupcakes, but there are a lot of other drool-worthy sweet treats, too.
There were a few interesting combinations like a Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich cupcake and a Fruity Pebbles Rice Krispies Treat. We heard the 7-Layer cupcake is really good, and a lot of people rave about the Brooklyn Blackout. I ended up getting a S’mores bar that tasted like a chocolate chip cookie topped in melted marshmallows. No complaints here!
After dessert, we drove over to the pier and enjoyed some fresh air by the river.
It was a great evening in our borough, and cool to see Manhattan in front of us and Staten Island close behind!
• beet hummus
It’s no secret that I am a big fan of hummus. An original flavor is always a solid way to go, but I’m also a sucker for trying new, unique flavors when they appear at our local markets. This week, I saw this bright red/purple beet hummus.
It’s from the Eat Well Embrace Life brand, it’s made with white beans, and it has a pickled beet topping in the middle. It definitely tastes like it’s made with beets, but the flavor isn’t overpowering at all. I always mix the topping into the rest of it, and it was delicious as a dip for crackers and veggies!
• Team USA Womens Gymnastics
Last, but certainly not least, is my love for watching the Olympic Games this week. I have really been enjoying Beach Volleyball and Swimming (Go, Phelps … 26 medals!), but my favorite event is always Women’s Gymnastics. Did you see last night’s routines?
I mean, wowww. Aly Raisman did more than redeem herself from the 2012 Olympics, and Simone Biles was the definition of perfection.
Aly’s emotional bow to her floor routine made me teary-eyed. Get it, girls! #TeamUSA

Also, those comical salads get me every time! 😉

Hi Susie! I can totally see how that would happen. Um, jalapeno pita chips sounds amazing. Thanks for the suggestion!
Mary Bost
Thank you for hosting this link-up! 1. I love hummus and I love beets- I’m going to have to find this dip! 2. I love to save money and can’t buy anything online without a coupon code, I’m getting Honey right away. Thanks for the recommendation!

Heather
Hi Mary! Thanks for linking up! I’m with you – I’m really stubborn, and very rarely do I buy something online without getting some kind of discount or free shipping!
Beth @ Sublimely Fit
Ooh, good to know about those coupons! I’m going to have to load up on some soaps from Bath and Body Works for my new place next week since I very strategically used up the last of my soap just as the movers came. Watching gymnastics has been so much fun. I can’t believe how well those ladies can stick their landings. They are so professional and athletic, too. Nothin’ but love for that team.
Hope you have a great weekend, Heather!

Yes!! I have really been enjoying the Eucalyptus Mint scent in the bathroom. It smells just like a spa 🙂
Shelbee on the Edge
I am huge Olympics addict and am very tired as a result this week! That beet hummus looks amazing as do those pastries! I absolutely love Fruity Pebbles (Rice Krispy) Treats. They are so much better than the original recipe!
Thanks for the link up!

Yes, it’s hard not to stay up to watch everything all week! We ended up recorded a lot of the events and have some catching up to do. The Fruity Pebbles treats looked amazing, we’ll have to go back!
Patricia @ Sweet and Strong
Those cupcakes look so good! I’m always a fan of trying interesting flavors. We had cannoli cupcakes at our wedding, I never would have thought of that flavor but it was so good at our tasting. And beet hummus, yum! I need to find that!

Aly made me so emotional last night! I wanted that medal for her so bad! I watched the event live and on TV I loved it so much. Definitely brought tears to my eyes after Aly finished her floor routine.
Ellen @ My Uncommon Everyday
I get SO excited and emotional about the Olympics, but especially gymnastics. Show me a sad movie and I probably walk away without ever getting teary, but I’m in happy tears most nights of the Games.

Lol the salad jokes kill me! Who knew lettuce was so dang funny? I tried a cucumber hummus from that same company and loved it!
Heather
Wait, cucumber hummus? I haven’t seen that one. Sound delish!
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West
Oh yes, I put that beet hummus out at an impromptu get together we hosted a few months ago, and it was gone in an instant! Happy Friday, Heather. Thanks for the tip on Honey. 🙂

The gymnastics were SO exciting this year for the Olympics. I was so happy and blessed to see how those women worked so hard and did such a beautiful job! 🙂
My favorite part of the week was everything! There was one day I felt really down, but the rest of the week has just been such a wonderful week of living. 🙂

They are incredible! I love your positive thinking. Everyone has rough patches (heck, I had a random break down last night), but taking a step back and appreciating what is around you and what made your week is the way to go! Enjoy your weekend, Emily! <3

Bay Ridge is my favorite area in Brooklyn. I don’t venture there much but I have family there so it’s always great when I go visit them.

What an awesome plugin! I love saving as much as possible and having it be all easy for me is even better! I can’t imagine trying to choose between all those delicious cupcakes and sweets! You really can’t go wrong with s’mores though, they’re delicious in any form! Have a great weekend!

I don’t think I could ever say no to a s’more. We didn’t have a backyard in MI, so we put them in the microwave and made them every now and then. We don’t have a microwave here, so we will have to figure something out soon!
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment
That hummus sounds delicious! And thanks for the tip on Honey. Love the name. 🙂 Have a great weekend! Xo.
Heather
Thanks Lauren, you too! It’s been great so far!
Nancy
I haven’t been to B&BW in ages! I used to love their soaps. But then I moved to the USA and got side-tracked by all the Trader Joe’s and Norstrom… and stores we didn’t get back home lol. Random.
Have a good weekend!
