For as many times as we have been to Prospect Park, this was the first time that Scott and I set out to find Smorgasburg.
Longtime readers already know that I am always on board for any kind of food truck festival, and Smorgasburg is a very similar. It’s a weekend food market that features a great variety of local foods, drinks, and sweet treats.
A version of it (that houses six food vendors) is open daily in Seaport, and the bigger events take place on Saturdays in Williamsburg and on Sundays in Prospect Park.
We have visited Smorgasburg at Williamsburg a couple of times, and we always leave with extremely full bellies. I can’t believe it took us so long to drop by the location nearest to us!
Considering that we only live blocks away from the park, I have a feeling that we’ll be back a lot more throughout the summer and fall. It was scorching with temperatures in the mid-90s yesterday, so we just spent enough time to make a lap and purchase a few new things to try.
Thanks to the suggestion of a few friends, I set out to find Ramen Burger and ordered one just like it came, sans cheese. Um, yes.
That’s right … it’s a hamburger with a ramen noodle bun. Genius, right? I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the noodles were soft and chewy. The flavor of the burger was great, and the sauce was delicious! It wasn’t huge, but I felt pretty satisfied and will be back to try another one for sure!
Scott was looking for Mexican, and he found a tasty dish at Jalapa Jar. The tacos were good, but the real stars of that place were the salsas. They had a wonderful variety of mild, medium, and hot with a smooth texture. All so, so good!
We enjoyed our late lunch under the shade, and we did our best to stay cool by keeping water close by. Nothing cools you off better than a frozen dessert, right?
I passed by a few options, and I was most intrigued by Wolly’s Shaved Snow. I expected something similar to shaved ice, but the texture was more of a combination between shaved ice and ice cream. It’s hard to explain, but I loved it.
I chose the Matcha Green Tea flavor that came topped with Oreo thins, corn flakes, pocky sticks, and a chocolate drizzle. Delish. Unfortunately (well, fortunately for me), Scott isn’t the biggest fan of green tea, so I got to enjoy every bite of this bad boy all the way home!
Speaking of walking through the park, let’s back up and cover what led up to our stumble upon Smorgasburg yesterday.
We set out for the early afternoon church service at Hillsong, and those of you who follow LIL on Snapchat (username: lifenleggings) saw why we arrived a bit later than normal. We got off of the subway at Bryant Park and practically walked into the Dominican Day Parade. The streets were very crowded, and it took us at least an extra fifteen minutes to navigate around the parade route. There was a lot of Dominican Republic culture, music, and pride!
By the time we arrived at the theatre, both of us were drenched. The heat index had to be over one hundred degrees, and there weren’t any clouds in sight. We are feeling extra thankful for air conditioning, and especially central air this year. (The two weeks we lived in our apartment before our A/C units arrived were dreadful! Two high-end, powerful units for $500 total was the best investment ever.)
After church, we walked through the crowds around Times Square and snapped a quick photo before deciding to hop on the express train home.
The Q train takes you right to Prospect Park, so we ventured outside of our normal path to find a new entrance to the park and eventually, Smorgasburg.
I feel like I constantly share pictures of the park on Snapchat and InstaStories (<- not sure if I’m a fan because it makes me want to “snap” everything twice!), but there is still so much territory that we have yet to explore. It’s huge!
This time we followed the trails to The Boathouse.
It would make a beautiful wedding venue and is considered a historic landmark since it was built in 1905! We took our time and took in the views on our way to the music that led us to the food.
There were several people camped out with portable grills, lawn chairs, and fishing poles. I’d love to bring Roadie out with us and spend a full Sunday in the park when it gets a little cooler. There are so many stunning places to go!
Smorgasburg isn’t labeled very well, so the best way to find it is to look for Breeze Hill or Lincoln Road.
There was something for everyone there, including water and treats for dogs!
The rest of our weekend was pretty low-key. Scott worked on Saturday night, so I took advantage of the alone time by watching a few movies and virtually decorating our living room.
Basically, that just means that I have a bunch of items in my online shopping cart(s). It has taken me forever to decide what colors to go with, and my goal is to keep calm with cool colors in a city of craziness!
Per my mom’s suggestion, I watched The Intern, and I loved that it took place right here in Park Slope, Brooklyn! It’s a cute movie staring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway, in case you’re looking for a feel-good comedy/drama about 70-year-old man who wants to do more than retire.
My friend, Erin, came over for a girls’ night in on Friday!
She brought over a bottle of Prosecco, and we cooked a Blue Apron meal I was looking forward to digging into.
Cheesy Stuffed Peppers with Queso Fresco, Monterey Jack Cheese & Mexican Crema
Yum!
I spent most of my free time indoors this weekend. It was hotter here than it was for my friends and family in Orlando, Florida! Who would have thought …
As much as I love the summer, I absolutely can’t wait for fall to arrive. It’s my favorite season, and I know that the park is going to be gorgeous when the leaves change colors.
Welp, I guess that sums up this weekend recap. I’m off to attend an event in Jersey City that involves a lot of sweets and holiday treats. (Christmas in August?) I’ll be sure to share more details soon, and you can always follow the adventures on Instagram and Snapchat!
I’m linking these weekend snapshots up with Katie and Erin. Click on their link-ups for more weekend adventures all over the country and world!

It’s SO good! I’ll definitely have another soon 🙂

Hi Heather! I rarely comment but had to today, your picture of The Boathouse looked seriously familiar and after a quick google search I confirmed my suspicion. The famous SATC scene where Carrie and Big fall into the water was filmed there! I think you’re a fellow fan so I thought you might like to know!
Meghan
Ah, never mind, it was at the Central Park one. It looks so similar though!
Heather
Oh man! That’s so interesting, they look very familiar. There are a lot of areas of Prospect Park that look like Central Park! So beautiful. Thanks for reading 🙂

• What has the weather been like in your neck of the woods? it has been HOT HOT HOT!! So Oregon gets very hot this time of summer. I don’t mind it. I know come Oct. the cool weather really comes and it’s cold for quite a while.
• Have you ever been to a food truck festival? No but I would love to go to one. We are still a pretty small community and these trucks haven’t caught on like in other places. I have to travel way up north to Portland where the scene is definitely going on.

A food truck festival sounds so fun! All your food looked delicious, I’m going to look up if they do them here in DC. The weather was so HOT this weekend we went to the movies and definitely tried to stay indoors in the AC. So I’m ready for fall too!

It’s been crazy hot here in Toronto so I’ve been trying to get to the beach every moment I can!
Those foods look so creative! We have an exhibition here coming up in a few weeks and the crazy foods are one of the biggest draws to it…can’t wait to see what they come up with this year!

Living in NY my whole life and I have never been to Smorgasburg. I hear so many good things about it. It makes me really want to go try it!

Oh my goodness – I just found your blog and this post makes me miss NYC so much. We recently moved from NYC to Atlanta and while we love Atlanta, my husband & I definitely feel homesick for NYC some days. He actually worked in Brooklyn Heights, so we ventured to Prospect Park a lot – such a beautiful area. And that burger? Seriously – one of those amazing eats you would ONLY find in NYC! YUM! So bummed I never got a chance to try that. lol
