Good morning! It’s Fri-yay!
This week has been a long one, my friends. I’m certainly looking forward to catching up on some rest this weekend more than anything!
Scott and I have a fitness and dinner date tonight in Williamsburg, so I’m also pumped about that. Any restaurant suggestions? (We love the area and want to try everything noteworthy!)
I have an event to attend late-afternoon on Saturday, but other than that, the next few days aren’t too planned. I’m really excited to catch up on some things that have been pushed aside over the last couple of weeks and (dare I say it) sleep in tomorrow. It’s the little things, right?
Just like every Friday, today we are taking a look back at the week and sharing what we’ve been loving in this week’s edition of Friday Favorites. I always invite you to join in on the party, too.

Friday Favorites #158: Week of 9/9

• the JIBS life shoes
I’ve been seeing a popular wave of slip-on “sneakers” in NYC this summer, and I finally matched the brand yesterday. I attended an early morning event in the City (details coming next!), and it only took walking by the JIBS life booth once to want a pair of my own.
JIBS are hand-crafted perforated leather shoes that are perfect for every day walking and summering. They are gender neutral and come in slip on, high top, slim toe, and kids styles. So cute, right? They aren’t cheap, but the quality and uniqueness (so comfy, no socks needed!) justifies the retail price of $90 – $140 per pair.
After trying them on, I couldn’t leave without ordering a pair of slip ons. It took me about ten minutes to pick a color (can I have them all?), and I finally decided on silver. I can’t wait to get them in, and I’m already eyeing the high tops next. Somebody stop me!
• salute NYC
Back to the event yesterday, I had an early morning wake up call with my blogging friend, Ashley!
I featured a blurb about it in last week’s favorites, and it turned out to be a sweaty, fun few hours. We set our alarms early and split a 5:40 a.m. cab to Primary (on Wall Street) for SALUTE, hosted by Pop Up Yoga NYC. We arrived just after 6 a.m., and were greeted by friendly faces and a tumeric shot (tumeric drink with ginger and honey).
There were 30 minute classes for three hours, and we took the first class time to walk around and talk to vendors and other attendees. Ashley took a WRKNYC class at 6:30, and I tucked my way through Pure Barre. I ended my workouts with a Cardio Sweat Party class taught by Michele! I had an absolute blast dancing/kickboxing, and I left tired and extremely sweaty. I’d say that’s a win!
There were a variety of snacks and beverages to try, fitness clothing to swoon over, and tables to browse in between classes.
Two things I didn’t get to do was take advantage of the temple massages and meditation/yoga classes.
I wish I could have stayed longer, but I had to get back to Brooklyn for work. It was a great event, and I will definitely be keeping an eye out for future Pop Up Yoga NYC gatherings!
• Brooklyn Crepe & Juice
Living in Brooklyn leaves me nowhere near short of places to eat. Slowly, we are venturing out and trying new places as the weeks go by. This week, I found a wonderful healthy lunch spot on Flatbush Avenue called Brooklyn Crepe & Juice.
As the name suggests, they have an interesting (delicious-looking) variety of crepes, smoothies, and juices. Craving greens, I ordered the Sunset Park Salad with oil & lemon juice dressing.
It was huge! It came loaded with marinated chicken and veggies, and I only ate half of it before I felt full. Delicious and a great value to boot!
• balayage & bestseller styling spray
You guys. I got my hair done! Believe it or not, the last time I stepped foot into a salon was last November. I’ve been eyeing Hairstories in my neighborhood since we moved here, and I finally made an appointment for a new color and cut last weekend. I absolutely love it!
Hairstories is known for balayage hair painting, and I have been wanting to try it since I saw an ad for it shortly after we moved! It’s a very natural looking technique that involves hand painting pieces and embracing your routes. The best part about it is that you only have to retouch the color 2-3 times a year!
The lighting of this photo makes it look lighter than it really is, but I wanted to include it because of the loose-wave hairstyle. It was blown out and slightly curled away from my face. My hairstylist used this Bestseller Styling Spray before and after the blow out, and it really locked in the style and gave it a more textured look. I loved the product so much that I bought a bottle to take home with me!
They were so sweet and ended up throwing in this Sufix spray to use as a protectant before the Bestseller. I am really enjoying both products and the smells are phenom!
• season transition nail polish
I’m a big fan of dark nail colors for the fall, but I’m not quite ready to dive into them just yet. I got a manicure the other day (it was glorious), and I spotted a shade that looked like the perfect summer-to-fall color and reminded me of a mix between a watermelon and a rose.
It’s called Swept Off My Feet by Essie, and it’s stayed on for four full days without any chipping. Not too shabby!

Thanks Patricia! Yes, I was well overdue. I’m loving the pop of subtle highlights right now. Enjoy the weekend!
I have to keep an eye out for the NYC pop up yoga. How would I get notified about where they are? I would love to do that when I am up there. I can’t wait to get up there for the fall weather! I still have the US Open on my bucket list, but you are really enjoying your new city life!! Happy Friday!
Hi Anna-Marie! You can follow them on social media and subscribe to their e-mail list to get info about their events in NYC! http://popupyoga-nyc.com/ Let me know when you get up here! By the way, did I ever tell you that my mom tried your lightened up Starbucks Pink Drink recipe?! She loves it! 🙂
Love your haircut & color!! I keep thinking of trying bayalage, but I am nervous. Your’s turned out perfectly though!
Thanks Hannah! I love the technique, but I would definitely go with a salon that specializes in it or at least ask your stylist their experience with it first. Happy weekend!
I love your hair! And that dustpan meme is all too real. 😛 Have a lovely weekend, Heather!

Yes it does! I need to try that combo. Happy Weekend!
I want to live in NYC!! Ahhh, seriously even visiting is on my bucket list but I’m not sure I’d be happy to leave. Either you do a really great job of documenting it or it really is that great!
Your hair looks amazing and reminds me that I really need to book myself an appointment soon.

Hi Suzanne! It’s definitely been an adventure so far. So much to do, all the time! It is nice to break away from the madness from time to time, though. We’re hoping to go Upstate for a few weekends this fall. Thanks for reading!
I LOVE La Nonna in Williamsburg– had been there for a concert one night with my parents and totally stumbled upon the restaurant when we saw people eating really tasty looking pizza outside. The pizzas and salads were SO good.
My co-worker has a pair of Jibs and he’s obsessed. I love the metallic colors!
I love seeing NYC through your eyes as someone new and so excited about everything <3
I love the way you got your hair done; it looks so pretty, and you’re brave to get it done that way, cause I’m very conservative when it comes to my hair. It took me forever to just get it layered, as I had had it just trimmed for so long. 🙂 I love that you and Ashley got to attend those classes together too; it’s always cool to see the community that classes build with others.

Check out Traif in Williamsburg. You will need a reservation so it won’t work for tonight, but it is AMAZING. Small, really unique tapas focused on pork and shellfish. Everything is delicious!
Hair looks amazing, friend! Happy Friday! 🙂
I am loving cape coats for winter. You hair looks great!
