Good morning! It’s Friday, and I’m starting the day early with a sweat in spin class!
I have the option of working from home on Fridays (for now), so I’m looking forward to a day to focus in the comfort of my own home. I sure do miss the company of our fur kids these days. It will be nice to catch up with them and enjoy lunch at home, too.
I don’t have much on deck for tomorrow, but Sunday will be busy. I’m volunteering at a race, working, and getting ready for another week followed by out-of-town visitors. You better believe that I will be silencing any alarms tomorrow!
I’m definitely looking forward to getting some rest this weekend, and today I’m looking back at the week to share a new batch of Friday Favorites. I’d also love to hear what you’ve been loving in the comments and link-up sections below.
Here we go!
Friday Favorites #160: Week of 9/23
• the new iPhone 7
I’ve been waiting to upgrade my phone for quite some time. I was going to finally bite the bullet and trade my iPhone 5s in for a 6s a month or so ago, but then I got word that the iPhone 7 was coming out mid-September. I figured I’d save a little when the upgrade game out, and I had every intention of simply upgrading to the 6s until my friend Hillary clued me in on a fantastic deal. Anyone from AT&T looking to switch over to Verizon?
Scott and I have been with AT&T for years (and we have loved it for years!), but for whatever reason, their service in New York City is sub-par. Everyone talks about how AT&T barely gets service here, and they’re absolutely right. I was always running off of one bar in our apartment, and the wi-fi/4G connection was super slow and frustrating. I’ve heard that Verizon is the way to go from several sources, and man … the difference is incredible. The service is great!
I don’t know if this is true outside of the City, but it’s definitely worth researching if you’re in a similar situation. Until the end of September, any customer switching over from AT&T can turn in their iPhone 5 or 5s for $400, 6 or 6s for $600, or 6 plus for $650 credit towards a new iPhone 7 or 7 plus! You sign a 2-year agreement with the service, but you pay the remaining cost of the phone off during that time. At the end of the day, I’m paying less than $15 a month for the upgrade.
I’ve been swooning over the rose gold version since it came out, so of course I picked that one.
(pictured with a clear Speck case — drop tested protection from 8-feet!)
They also offer a new matte black option which looks great. The main difference between the 6s and 7 is the home button, camera, and earbud jack. The iPhone doesn’t have a headphone jack, only a Lightning port that’s also used to charge the battery. Here’s an article explaining why. The phone has a 12MP camera and a digital zoom up to 5x.
The home button isn’t really a “button”, and when you touch it the whole phone clicks. It’s weird, but I’m used to it and think it’s actually kind of cool.
If any of you end up switching to Verizon, let me know if the deal worked in your area, too!
• Zenergy yoga class with Chico’s
I kicked this busy week off in the best way with a Zenergy yoga class hosted by . They’re rolling out a new clothing line that features the softest, performance-inspired fabrics. Their mission is to make women feel comfortable, yet sexy as they age, and the new styles give off an easy-made-chic spirit that’s perfect for everyday life and activities.
//
I joined my blogging friends Ashley (<- thanks for the invite!) and Theodora at the Chico’s warehouse on 25th Street after work on Monday, and I was really looking forward to a calm and relaxing yoga session with Colleen Saidman.
She led a wonderful class full of stretches and holds, and I left feeling rejuvenated. (I need more yoga in my life!)
The class was held in the Chico’s warehouse, and the space was beautifully transformed into a yoga oasis.
Fresh juices, cucumber and mint waters, and light hors d’oeuvres were served afterwards, and everyone was gifted an outfit, bag, and yoga mat. Thanks for a night of zen, Chico’s!
• it’s officially FALL
If any of you follow LIL on Snapchat or Instagram (stories), then you already know that yesterday was the first day of the fall season, and this made me really excited. Call me basic, but fall has my heart.
Ever since we moved up where seasons actually exist, my favorite time of year is always when there is a slight chill in the air in the peak of when all the leaves start changing. I love pulling out the scarves and boots and cuddling up with a hot beverage in hand.
Yesterday I honored the changing of the season with a morning Pumpkin Spice Latte. Had to. <3
• impromptu running and workout dates
I have my friend Ashley to thank for a great week of workouts!
We went to yoga on Monday, on a run through Prospect Park on Wednesday, had a cardio dance party last night, and went to my very first SoulCycle class this morning! (For anyone near one, they’re offering free classes to first-timers until the end of the day!) Eighty percent of those plans — to go together anyways — happened at the last minute, and it was so fun to have someone to sweat and chat with during my workouts this week.
Thanks for motivating me to get out there and move, friend!
• Spotify’s Running Tempo feature
If you’ve been reading the blog for a hot minute, then you probably know that I’m a huge fan of Spotify. (I create workout playlists every season and have a new one coming at you soon!) While I love Pandora, I prefer to create and stream my own playlists, and I pay $9.99 for the upgraded membership without ads that also allows you to play any album or song in any order.
One thing I just discovered, however, is their Running Tempo feature. It’s great!
If you’re ever looking for running motivation, browse the Mood -> Running category and start running. The app will automatically start playing music that matches your tempo. You can run to the beat (as a dancer, this is amazing), and each song is an abbreviated version that transfers into the next. It’s like you have your own personal running DJ!
Through this option, I’ve discovered a lot of old favorites, too. Let me know if you give it a try!
• September POPSUGAR Must Have Box
Longtime LIL readers might remember POPSUGAR appearing on the blog from time to time!
For those who don’t, here’s how it works:
- Pick a plan: for a subscription, packages start at $39.95 a month
- Unwrap your full-sized box of surprises each moth
- Enjoy your new discoveries!
You can always see what past boxes look like by visiting their page. All are valued well over $100 and include treats I would personally love to try. Also, I think it’s neat that Lisa Sugar (POPSUGAR Founder & Editor in Chief) personally hand-picks the items that go into each box. You’re essentially trying out her monthly “Friday Favorites”.
While I don’t personally subscribe to the service, it is a neat way to try new products, snacks, and accessories. (Who doesn’t love surprises in the mail every month, right?)
POPSUGAR sent me as box of treats this month, and I’m excited to share the contents with you.
The included:
- JACK & LUCY Bicoastal Wide Brim Hat, suggested retail: $58
- NCLA Mani-ER Tool Kit, suggested retail: $16
- , suggested retail: $36
- FLINT Lint Roller, suggest retail: $9.99
- SMITH & CULT Lip Lacquer in The Warning, suggested retail: $22
- THE GLUTEN FREE BITES Dark Chocolate Coconut Bites, suggested retail: $4.99
— Over a $145 value!
The travel lint roller is everything with pets. I’m loving the lip gloss, my hair desperately needs that hydrating mask, and I absolutely adore the hat. It’s a style I’ve been wanting to try, so now I have an excuse to give it a go. *fingers crossed*
If you’re interested in getting your own , take advantage of getting $5 off of your first box by using the code SHOP5 (<- never expires!) at checkout. Thanks for the goodies, POPSUGAR!

lol – I’m definitely feeling it! Currently babysitting with my eyelids shutting. But, I get to sleep in tomorrow and have little plans outside of pajamas and working on the computer. It’s a beautiful thing. 😉 Love being able to spend some QT with the fur kids!
Patricia @ Sweet and Strong
I took advantage of that deal and tried my first Soul Cycle class last weekend too. I love a good spin class, which is crazy because I used to really dislike spinning. But I love the music and atmosphere at a Soul Cycle or Flywheel. And yay for Fall and sweaters, scarves, and boots. I celebrated yesterday with a Pumpkin Pie Bagel from Panera, it was SO good!

Awesome! I’m on the same boat with you when it comes to spinning. I usually don’t like it at all … but when there’s a dance party involved and loud music, I’m down. Loved SoulCycle and also Cyc Fitness! I have yet to try Flywheel, I’m sure I will soon. Also, I NEED PANERA! Haven’t been there since we moved. Happy weekend!
heather @Lunging Through Life
Whew that weekend sounds busy but thankfully you’re at least home working today! My daughter put my phone in the washer. I had the 6s and now I’m back to the 5 and I’d love to check out that deal! Have a wonderful day, Heather.

Yes! Right now I am very thankful for Fridays and Mondays where I have the option to work from home. That will change at the end of the year, but I’m going to really enjoy it for now. NO! That actually happened to my old 4s. I got off the phone when I was doing laundry to avoid dropping it in the washer and it slipped out of my hands and into the washing machine. Sad day!
Rachel
So tell me about the iPhone 7… do you like the headphone/charging port? There was so much dissonance about not having a headphone jack!

Heather
I really don’t notice a difference! I can’t remember a time where I tried to charge my phone at the same time I’m listening to something through the headphones, so it doesn’t really affect me either way. Yay for better sound quality, though!
Danielle
Happy Friday! That yoga studio looks so zen and amazing, what an awesome event! Also, I haven’t personally tried out the running function for Spotify yet, but (also as a dancer!) it seems so handy and fun! I wonder if it would work if I was on the elliptical too. Gotta try it soon!

Heather
I bet you would love it! I used to browse through it when I first got Spotify, but I can’t believe I finally tried the tempo option just the other day. It’s great! Let me know if you try in on the elliptical!
Debbie @ Coach Debbie Runs
I’m thinking about switching back to iPhone next time around. I haven’t been super happy with my Note 5 and the Note 7, you know, catches on fire. And..gold! I’ve been with Verizon forever and love the service, though I’m not in New York.

I never had a need to switch from AT&T until the service was super frustrating. It still amazes me that one of the biggest cities in the world could have poor cell reception. So weird.
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West
Hi Heather! Love the phone! And I got the same Must Have box and am totally excited to wear the hat for fall heehe. Did you enjoy SoulCycle? It’s quite a different cycling experience! Happy weekend to you!
Heather
Thanks! Yes, I remember you posting the hat! Or maybe sharing it on your Instagram story? LOVED SoulCycle! It’s very similar to Cyc, which is on ClassPass, so I can enjoy a lot more. Have a great weekend, friend!
Emily Swanson (@Emily11949309)
Yay for buddy workouts; I love going to the gym and working out with my mom; it makes the workouts go so much faster. I love that you got to go do several things with Ashley.
And that’s so weird that AT&T doesn’t get good reception in NYC; maybe because of all the high towers?

Aw, I love going to the gym with my mom. Enjoy your time there with her! Who knows why the service isn’t awesome. I never would have thought!

YES!! Thanks for motivating me, we make a great team! Enjoy the weekend! xo
Sara @ saralouyoga
I just LOVE that yoga experience that you had…it looks so dreamy!
I bought the Galaxy S6 last year and am kind of hoping to get an upgrade to an iphone 8…haha…all of my other tech products are apple and it’s just so much easier to transfer data between them!
Heather
It really makes me want to take restorative yoga on the regular. I left feeling so stress-free and stretched, a great combo!
Jessie @ The Acquired Sass
Unfortunately I already have Verizon, but I have heard of some great deals going on to entice people to upgrade. I must admit the new camera is making me think twice. I’ll still probably wait until some of the madness dies down though, just because I don’t care all THAT much.
And I’ve been holding out on my first PSL, but no longer!
Heather
Right. I probably wouldn’t have needed the upgrade yet, but that offer was too good to pass up!
Ange // Cowgirl Runs
I’m strongly debating the 7 or 7 Plus just for the upgraded camera. But whyyyyyyy must they be so dang pricey?! Oof.
I hope you’re able to get some rest since you had a crazy weekend ahead of you!

I knowwww. I really didn’t think that it was an option until I got wind of the switchover. We’ve been wanting to change to Verizon since we moved!
Sierra
Happy Friday! We have verizon too and have always loved the service. My work phone is with a different carrier and I can always see the difference. I’m a fall lover too and everything about it until it starts getting really cold. Enjoy your weekend and hopefully you can get some rest in. Beautifully Candid
Heather
Hi Sierra! Great to know. Couldn’t agree more about the fall. There is a big different in cool vs. cold weather 😉 Happy Weekend!
Liz
Not sure I understand your phone deal .. you got a $650 trade-in value on your old phone and you have to pay the difference over two years? So how are you paying ~$15 * 24 months = $360 for a new phone when an iphone 7 sells for between $649 and $849? Something isn’t adding up
Heather
Hi Liz! I just got a $400 trade in for my iPhone 5s. They were offering $600 for the 6/6s and $650 for the 6 plus. So, I’m paying about $360 in 2 years. $400 + $360 = $760. If Scott traded in his phone, however, he would only have to pay about $5 a month, unless he wanted the 7 plus that runs a little higher! Hope this helps. Happy Weekend!
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job
When I was running a lot I LOVED that feature on Spotify. We are on an extended break now, but it’s still a great feature haha.

I took a break from running for a long time. Now I am back at it, but I certainly don’t time them. It’s nice to have something to keep up with – like music 😉
Kelly @ Kelly Runs For Food
It must be a dancer thing! I am the same way with running. I have to have music I can match to my steps. I pay for the Spotify premium too and it’s the best money I spend!
I’m also eyeing the iPhone 7. I really want one!
