Good morning and Happy Friday!
Florida friends: I’ve been thinking about you guys and sending so many prayers your way. Luckily, my family only experienced power outages, scary wind gusts, and a handful of fallen trees through the hurricane. If you’re still without power, so are my parents. I know it’s been a long week for you — hang in there!
Today is a busy one, as I have a doctor’s appointment in Midtown, work, and then dinner plans with our friends who are visiting back in Midtown tonight. I’m currently typing this post up while I finish my morning cup of coffee, then I’m getting ready and packing for the day and night ahead with a smile. It’s so fun when familiar faces are in the City, and I’m excited to spend time with them!
As usual, today we are chatting about Friday Favorites on the blog today, and I have a fresh edition of what I’ve been loving below. I always invite you to share your recent faves in the comments and link-up sections, too. AND! Don’t forget to scroll through for last week’s giveaway winner announcement.
Enjoy the day!
Friday Favorites #183: Week of 9/15
• Friend of a Farmer & Saturday views
I had a great Saturday with my friend Meggan, who was in town last weekend. She extended her work trip to get out of Hurricane Irma’s way, and I’m so glad she did. We planned to have a much-needed day to relax together, so we planned for blowouts in the morning and brunch after that. Since we were in Greenwich Village, we made a quick walk over to Gramercy Park to wait for seats at Friend of a Farmer.
Scott and I had visited the Friend of a Farmer location in Brooklyn Heights before, so I was excited to hear that we would only have to wait about fifteen minutes for a table for two. The outside patio was busy, so I was thrilled when they sat us inside. The warm and cozy countryside environment is very comforting to see in the middle of New York City.
The restaurant is completely farm-to-table and features seasonal and local ingredients. I’ve been for brunch and dinner, and there isn’t anything that I’ve tried that isn’t drool-worthy. Definitely check it out if you get a chance!
After our meals, we spent the rest of the afternoon shopping around Union Square. We walked down to 230 Fifth to grab a beverage with the sunset (by the way, this place has the best rooftop view I’ve seen yet!) and enjoyed the fresh air.
After the sunset, we walked right around the corner for dinner at The Smith, then called it an early night shortly after. We went out later the night before, so we were both ready to turn in after a full day and a half of bouncing around the City. It was so great to see her!
• drybar dry shampoo
I rarely decide to get blowouts, and when I do, it’s usually when a girlfriend is in town to treat ourselves. Meggan mentioned wanting to try drybar, so I booked us appointments in Greenwich Village to start our Saturday. Getting pampered always kicks the weekend off on the right foot, right?
Anytime I get my hair blown out, I try to observe their styling techniques and always make note of the products that leave my hair silky and smooth. While I didn’t need it during this appointment, I was in need of replacing my dry shampoo at home and figured I’d give their line a try.
I love the lush scent of the dry shampoo, and it works great. It’s probably one of the strongest dry shampoos I’ve tried! Use sparingly, however, because it leaves a grey hue if you spray too much in one area. That said, it’s a fantastic product.
• Krusteaz protein pancakes
My friend Ashley recently led me to a new brand of protein pancakes called Krusteaz. I’ve made them a few times for Scott and I, and each time I simply mixed in organic skim milk and eggs and the result was fluffy and delicious buttermilk protein pancakes that tasted incredible!
Most protein pancake mixes taste heavy or don’t quite come out right when I make them. Maybe it’s me, or I’ve gotten better at making them, but I had a very easy time whipping these bad boys up! Scott loves them, which hasn’t always been the case with my “better-for-you” pancake concoctions.
The next step would be to add pumpkin. We’re almost there, fall!
• Jessica Simpson blanket
I received the sweetest care package this week that instantly made me smile. I didn’t even realize that Jessica Simpson has a line of bedding and home decorations, but she does. It looks like you can find her designs at , , Saks off 5th, , and more. My mom said she found this adorable blanket at either Marshall’s or Ross and couldn’t resist sending it over when she saw it, since it matches our living room.
I’m so glad she did! I’ve been snuggling up with it at night and love the design and colors.
(The pets love it, too!)
• heathy sloppy joes
This is a throwback post back to one of the first recipes I ever shared on the blog, but it’s a great one!
I’ve been wanting sloppy joe’s this week, so I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to dust off this oldie but goodie and give it another go a few nights back. Sloppy joes have always been a comfort food for me, so if there is a way to enjoy them and feel like I’m getting a fair amount of protein and veggies from the serving(s), I’m in.
This time I added a little more ketchup to the recipe, and it was delicious!

Patricia @ Sweet and Strong
It’s so fun to girl chat, dine out, and get blowouts when you have a friend visiting. They just recently opened The Smith in DC too. My sister and I went for brunch and it was amazing! I can’t wait to go back for dinner and drinks one day.
