Good afternoon!
It’s been a hot minute since I’ve been able to share a round up of favorites on the blog, so I wanted to take a small break from posting all things baby and do just that.
I know I will eventually get back to a schedule, but for now it’s kind of a free for all. I’m on Skyler’s sleep, newborn feeding, and changing schedule, and that makes the deadlines I set for myself a little more challenging. Okay, a lot more challenging.
The last few nights have been rough with cluster feeding and wake up calls about every hour and a half. The days have been filled with a lot of crying, thanks to our building reconstructing the stairs in the lobby (and being ridiculously loud all day, every day) all the way up to our apartment this week. So, I’ve been trying to take advantage of his nap times and rest as much as possible.
I guess you could say I’m getting close to the zombie status. It’s okay, friends. We’ll get through it. #newbornlife
Anyways, below you will find what I have been loving lately, and I always invite you to share your latest faves in the comments and blogger link-up section!
Now that I have more time at home, I plan to get back to a normal posting schedule as soon as I can, and I’m curious … do you still like the link up at the bottom? It used to be very popular and almost over fifty of you would link up your Friday Favorites up on a weekly basis. I am happy to continue hosting if it’s something y’all are interested, so please let me know.
All right – Happy Friday, kids. Here’s hoping you have have a good one!
Friday Favorites #198: Week of 4/6
• black & white Kate Spade sunglasses
I got the opportunity to partner up with Visionworks to feature a pair of their sunnies with you on the blog today! I have a few pairs of prescription glasses, but I haven’t owned a pair of prescription sunglasses since middle school.
I like to bring as little as possible while walking around the City, so it’s a huge win if I can condense my glasses into one pair instead of two to carry around all day!
Here I am wearing the black and white ANGELIQS pair (currently on sale!) from the Kate Spade line. Visionworks offers a variety of very affordable to high-end designer brands like Ray-Ban, Guess, bebe, Vera Bradley, Lacoste, Armani Exchange, Diane Von Furstenberg, and more.
I simply turned in my prescription with my order and had a pair of Rx sunglasses on my doorstep a few weeks later. They also sent an extra pair of lenses without the prescription, which I appreciate in case I end up preferring that option instead.
I don’t see that happening, however, because my eyes got significantly more blurry over the course of my pregnancy, and I’ve been wearing my day-to-day glasses more and more. Oh well.
If you’re in the market for a new pair of sunnies (with our without the prescription), check out their website for a ton of cute and stylish options. Thank you for providing me with this cute pair of shades, Visionworks!
• Revlon Salon One-Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer
I’ve had a few blogger friends recommend this one to me, and I finally caved knowing that the time I used to spend on myself isn’t going to be what it used to. It takes me a bit to sit down, blow dry, and straighten my hair, so I was hoping this product would cut down some of the time it takes me to style my hair and it definitely lives up to the hype!
I purchased the Revlon Salon One-Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer on Amazon, but you can also find it at retailers like , , and others would carry it as well. It retails at about $60, so it’s a small investment, but it’s well worth it in my eyes.
I’ve always had volume to my hair, but it’s the technique of using the round brush while holding the hair dryer to create the look of a “blow out” that I struggle with. This tool only takes me about 10-15 minutes to fully dry and style my hair, and I haven’t really used my old hair dryer since. I will still use a straightener to fine tune the front, but it’s not nearly as necessary as it used to be. Love it!
• Dinner Party & church community love
Scott and I got best surprise the weekend before Skyler was born! We had plans to meet up with a few friends for dinner, but it turns out that our dinner party group from church threw us a surprise baby shower instead!
There was so much thought put into everything from the food and gifts to the fish-themed cake and cookies. (Scott nicknamed him “Fish” when he was in my belly because he was always swimming around and making swishy noises on the heartbeat doppler.)
We felt so loved on by this group and have continued to receive so, so much support (and many meals!) throughout the first few weeks of Skyler’s life from them, too.
I know this happened a few weeks ago, but I wanted to shout out to this amazing group for all of the kindness, support, prayers, and community they’ve shown us in just a few short months. We are so lucky to have you a part of our lives. <3
• Minnetonka slippers
I’ve always been the person who puts on sweatpants and slippers as soon as I walk inside the apartment. I’ve tried several different types of slippers over the years, but I always come back to a version of my favorites from the Minnetonka line.
Minnetonka moccasins are a popular brand up in the mitten (Michigan), and I was excited when I found this pair of Cally Slippers on Amazon for a steal. There were several similar styles I was eyeing around the site, too. I pretty much wear them 24/7 when I’m home. They are so warm and cozy!
• Bergen Spa (Cobble Hill, Brooklyn)
Even though I had two weeks until my due date, something told me to take a day to pamper myself the week that Skyler arrived. My friend Ashley introduced a great massage place awhile ago called Bergen Spa in Cobble Hill.
They offer foot rubs, head rubs, back rubs, and/or a combination of all of them at a very reasonable price per hour. The salon is super quiet and relaxing, and I am hoping to get back for a much-needed massage hour sometime again soon. If you’re ever in the Park Slope or Carroll Gardens area in Brooklyn and have sore muscles or feet from walking around the City too much, definitely check it out!

I recently got the same dryer and I will honestly give away my old hair dryer now. Also, minnetonka slippers are the best. I have even worn them out to the grocery store for a quick trip due to the hard bottom.
Heather
Hi Jess! Happy Friday! Good to know I’m not the only one obsessed with both of those items. I’ve also admittedly worn my slippers downstairs a time or two. 😉

I have a John Frieda hot air brush similar to the Revlon and I love it! It’s also great for volumizing 2nd day hair too!
Heather
Yes! This paired with dry shampoo is a winning combo. Have a great weekend!
Kirsten
I bought the same Revlon hairdryer in November and I love it! Probably the best $60 that I have spent in a long time!
That was such a kind thing that your church group did organizing a baby shower for you guys. So thoughtful and sweet.

Wow! So happy to read about your dinner party. It is such a sweet gesture from your group from the church. The baby-themed cookies are so cute and adorable.
