It is a chilly afternoon here in Michigan. It is in the 30s, which I am told is pretty warm for this time of year. I am sorry… “warm?” Looks like I need to gear up if I am even going to think about running outside for the next few months.
Yesterday I shared my Gift Ideas for Runners, which is basically a personalized running wish list of mine. I could have embellished a lot more on warmer accessories and items for people up here in the cold, so I decided to keep it separate and make a *Winter Edition* to share with you today.
Last minute shoppers… it is not to late! Let’s get on it!
1. Arm Sleeves/Sets
There are a variety of arm sleeves to choose from out there. I really do not know a difference from one brand to another, but I am enjoying all of the bright colored options.
Arm sleeves come in handy when it is chilly outside, and you do not want to layer with a long turtleneck or pull over jacket.
Some come on their own and some come in sets. After looking around, I would not mind a set so I always have a spare pair of running gloves available!
Where to buy:
Sporting Good Stores, Mizuno, Brooks, Running Warehouse.
2. Under Armour Long Sleeved Mock
For those days you really just need that layer.
No matter where you live, at one point or another you could get surprised with a batch of cold weather. Even in Florida, I wished I had an Under Armour on hand at times.
They come in a variety of different styles, and the long sleeve compression mock is the one that sticks out to me. I like ’em snug!
Where to buy:
Under Armour, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Amazon.com.
3. Ear Warmer Headband
If there is one thing I need to invest in for running outside, it is something to keep my hands and ears warm. Running in ear muffs does not sound very appealing to me, and winter headbands look so comfy and warm!
Where to buy:
Dick’s Sporting Goods, The North Face, Under Armour, lululemon.
4. E-tip Gloves
Running in gloves is a great idea! It can get a little tricky though, when you want to still control your electronics: GPS, fitness watch, music, etc. E-tip gloves enable you to enjoy your touchscreens without having to take your entire glove off.
I am in love with these lululemon brisk run gloves. Adorable!
Where to buy:
The North Face, lululemon, Finish Line.
5. Isolated Zip Jacket
(with insulation inside)
The only way I see myself running outside when there is snow on the ground is wearing one of these guys. It looks so cozy and might be the extra motivational push to get me out there.
I like how the Women’s Animaji Jacket is an insulated performance jacket that has panels on the side to still enable movement. Also, the thumb holes are pretty awesome!
Where to buy:
The North Face, lululemon, Running Warehouse.
(Have you picked up on my new love affair with The North Face yet?!)
(It’s fine.)
6. Warm Winter Tights
There are a variety of brands and stores that carry a winter running legging. Personally, when it comes to keeping warm and being new to the cold, I trust The North Face over most brands. Coming right behind this pair as a favorite is the lululemon and Under Armour versions.
Stay back, chill!
Where to buy:
The North Face, Under Armour, lululemon.
7. Running Scarf
It is hard to find a decent running scarf out there. If you are having trouble, try asking for a “neck warmer” instead. I guess that is basically the same thing.
This lululemon What the Fluff Scarf is a bit pricey, but is so fluffy and welcoming. I am dying to get it around my neck this winter!
Where to buy:
I hope this helps narrow down what to get a special runner in your life, or even puts something extra on your personal wish list!
Enjoy the rest of your shopping days <– right and Happy Hump Day!
Sarah
I hope Santa (Scott) brings you a running scarf for Christmas!
Heather
Well… I didn’t get the running scarf, but I did get a lot of other warm gear so I can’t complain! That scarf may just have to stay on next year’s list… too cute!
