Hello! Hope your weekend is starting out on a wonderful note.
Today we’ve got big plans. Well I do… and it may involve decorating our house for the holidays. Too soon?
I guess I am in a bit of a merry mood if you will. We’ll see how far I get!
Before the fun starts, I wanted to share a tutorial with you I am oh so excited to publish. I got a question or two on how I curl my hair for games at the beginning of last season. Yeah, last season. I have been meaning to demonstrate my around the barrel technique ever since, but never got around to it.
Since I was introduced to the wand a few weeks ago, curling my hair seems more effortless than ever. I can’t believe I didn’t try it out sooner! So, this new found inspiration motivated me to finally share my ways.
When curling my hair, I do a few different looks. Depending on what I am styling it for, I go from loose and wavy brushed out curls to tight and structured small curls. I use the same technique on all styles, and have learned that different irons and wands help me achieve different looks.
How I Curl My Hair: Video Tutorial
By no means are my curling instruments the best out there. In fact, two out of the three were purchased from a local grocery store. Just remember to use protective sprays (like this Redken Spray Starch or Thermal Setting Mist) and ceramic tools for minimal heat damage. But, for what it’s worth here are the tools I use in the video:
• Couldn’t find the exact Hot Tools ceramic 1-1/4″ curling iron, but here and here are similar ones.
• Conair 1″ Instant Heat curling iron
• Conair Infiniti YOU curl 1/2″-1″ curling wand
I also use this Sahag Air Power hairspray (love), this oil (for extra smoothness and detangling) and this teasing comb. Like I mentioned in the video, I am still looking for a better one… maybe like this or this.
Like most, I section off my hair and choose to do it in three main ones starting from the bottom and working my way towards the top. Some people prefer to work with smaller sections, but I like to keep it simple with a bottom, middle and top section.
All right, let’s get our curl on!
Feel free to leave any questions or comments below.
Hope this helps!

Great tutorial! Sometimes curling my hair can look SO mesy. And because I have a lot of hair, sometimes only about half of it is curled. I could really use this right now though because I just started a new job and my hair has not been looking the best lately. I’m just too lazy. Curling definitely takes my day old hair and makes it “new” again, though.

Love the tutorial! My hair is way too straight and I can’t get curly hair as often as I wish to. On the other hand, I’m a mess with curling irons so I know this will help. Once I heard about using the iron down, and it works, however at my first attempt … not a good experience!! So let’s see how it goes. I’m gonna try it on Thanksgiving day! Thanks for sharing 😉

Thanks for sharing! Your hair color is so pretty. I go back and forth between wanting to go blonder or brunette. You can pull off both so well!
Heather
Thanks so much Em!
