Scott and I have always joked around that when we are ready for children, we want to have twins. A boy and a girl would be ideal, but two boys would be preferred to two girls. It would be a shame for Scott to go without raising a son, since he seems to become “one of the boys” when he is around them.
I know things like this are out of our control, but it’s nice to have the thought every once and a while.
If you follow me on Instagram, you might have noticed a set of adorable twin boys pop up in a few recent pictures. Holy moly, are these two precious. Meet Luke and Jack, otherwise known as Thing 1 and Thing 2!
They are three and a half years old and belong to a friend of ours named Robert, who was in town from Houston. Along with his girlfriend, Amy, and her daughter Ashley, Robert, Luke and Jack all stayed with us in our condo this week.
When Scott asked if it was okay for them to stay with us, my automatic answer was yes. Any time we can host a close friend with well-behaved, darling children, no twisting of the arm is necessary. Done.
Although I had to miss making breakfast with everyone to leave for work early in the mornings, I enjoyed having them around to play hostess later on.
When I saw Robert start a load of laundry for the boys, I just had to fold their tiny identical clothes. There were two of everything. From t-shirts to pajamas, seeing a set of mini-clothes really melted my heart.
Later that day, Scott and I made a Hesington (and Irish) favorite: Corned Beef and Cabbage.
It was delicious and the boys actually tried some of the corned beef. I was impressed!
When it was time for bed, we set everyone up to sleep in a designated area, but somehow the couch became the favorite spot. Scott took these next few photos the morning after they arrived. Apparently a full day at Universal Studios can wear a three-year-old out.
I still can not tell them apart, but I think the top one is Luke and this next cutie pie is Jack.
They were O-U-T.
After day two at Disney, our guests brought home a few surprises to make for their third night here. Fresh shrimp and clam!
Having never tried clam before, I was pleasantly surprised. Two new things were added to my make-at-home meal list that night.
Yesterday, the (brave) troops headed out around Noon for another full day at Universal Studios, then off to take the dreaded drive back to Houston from Orlando.
Before they left, I wanted to snap a few photos and got this:

Apparently Luke (?) had a smelly diaper and Scott was not shy about letting us know about it. It’s okay, keep wearing my pink fuzzy slippers and see who the jokes are really about. 😉
The final photo is pretty wonderful. Jack is eating a jack-in-a-box, Scott is holding Ashley who is holding Luke (because that was the theme?) and Roadie looks utterly confused.
With two toddlers running around and a full house, he really was.
For the past month or so I have had the slightest bit of baby fever. It increased when Scott was away for a few days and after having our house guests, my fever is through the roof.
It is such a breath of fresh air to see a family happy, complete with well-behaved happy children. I guess it didn’t work against Robert that they were here to go to the parks, but still… you see what I’m getting at. Hearing baby chattering in the background, seeing Scott play with them and spending time at home as a family really got me thinking.
There are a few things I still want to do before settling down, but at the same time I constantly hear that there never really is a good time to start a family, either.
Scott and I are at a point in our lives where we could go either way… and that is all I know… for now.

Skyler did great walking into KINDERGARTEN with a big smile on his face this morning. I, however, was a bit of a mess on our walk home. 🥹
It’s wild how fast these 5 years with him have gone … 7 since we moved to NYC and into our apartment, dreaming of the day our kids would someday go to the *awesome* school right down our block. 🏫
That day is today, and I still don’t believe it — feeling allll of the emotions and thanking God for placing us here and for being able to trust His timing through the journey. 🫶🏼 #hbshinnyc

The pink shoes on Scott really make those pictures lol! I had never thought about having twins but it would be kind of nice, although putting them both through college at the same time might be kind of a horror story. I’ve known a lot of twins (strange but true) and they all love it, they’re very bonded to each other.
Ha, right? I still think it’s hilarious he wears them every single day. I LOVE the idea of twins, but agree later in life it would be rough paying for 2 college degrees at the same time, not to mention weddings! 😉
Those two little boys are absolutely ADORABLE!!!!
I am a twin–have a brother. Honestly, it was so wonderful having someone who was the same age to grow up with. Hardly ever did we get bored, and have made the most amazing memories we together. We were both very active, and had the same friends as well. Yes, there were times when we’d drive each other nuts–but what sibling doesn’t that happen too. My brother is my best friend, and I was and still am beyond grateful to have that person to spend birthdays together. I always believe that twins know if something is wrong with the other. If anything ever happened to either one of us, we were always the first to call each other to see if everything was okay.
At some times I think it’d be amazing to have twins myself. My husband and I want two children, so what wouldn’t be better than popping 2 out and being done 🙂 My mom says having twins was perfect, and she wouldn’t of wanted it any other way (we are the only two children). Then on the other hand, I don’t know.. having two at once, terrifies me and ah lol.
Ugh, I just wanted to squeeze their cheeks all week!
Wow – love your feedback! Twins infacuate me. I have a brother and a sister, but they are 8 and 11 years older. I would have loved to have someone so close to my age in the family.
We are on the same boat – 2 and done. BAM. Great and scary at the same time!

you know i’m a twin & i love it! I KNOW it is not easier…for a bunch of reasons but for many others it is! You’re dealing with one stage @ a time- walking, potty training, school, learning to drive, applying for colleges etc! Also, since we were the same sex/age, had mainly the same friends, & both danced it made it SO much easier to go to just one place instead of in a million different directions. Go for it! 😉
You and your sister are a perfect example of why I want twins! You two are adorable and seem to be best friends. I agree with you… having two on the same schedule in the same circle of friends seems easier. Eas-IER…I know in know way is raising twins easy. 😉
Twins have always amazed me. Actually my husband is a twin and they are incredibly close. We actually had to sell our house to move closer to his twin because he couldn’t handle living 30 minutes away. You are an amazing woman for wanting to have twins!
