Hi friends! How are you doing today?
It’s Friday (I think?), and we are closing up another week of quarantine here in Brooklyn. In case you missed it, I shared all about what it’s like to live in New York City during this pandemic earlier this week.
If I had to sum it all up in one statement, it’s that times are weird here and we’re hanging in there one day at a time. If you’d like to know more about our plans for the future, you’ll have to check out the post that’s linked above. Your guess is as good as mine!
So yeah, just another day in apartment paradise over here.
That said, there have been some great highlights to the week, too. I’m thankful for the time and opportunities that I’ve had to get some fresh air, work out, spend quality time with the family, try new activities with Skyler, attempt new recipes, and more.
Below you’ll see what I thought was worth sharing with you, and I’d love to hear about some of the highlights from your week in the comments.
Hopefully we’re in the home stretch!
CURRENT FAVES — QUARANTINE WEEK 10
- zoo walk-by & hiking through the park
You just never know where the day will take you.
As annoying and frustrating as it can be under quarantine, I will admit that it has forced us to slow down and really appreciate the extra time that we have to spend together at home and to roam around our neighborhood. Scott still hasn’t been able to start his temporary job (which might be more frustrating than quarantine), so we’ve been trying to get out and explore new areas around us since we won’t always have the hours together to do so.
Our quick walk to the park on Tuesday turned into a 4-hour walk and hike through the trails of Prospect Park. We had the stroller (since I predicted Skyler taking a nap and was spot on), so we weren’t able to hike as much as we wanted to, but we came out with a huge win by walking past the Prospect Park Zoo.
It’s closed, and we knew that, but we went out of our way to walk by the entrance and side gates in hopes of being able to see a few animals. We got pretty lucky!
We spotted several peacocks near the running loop (this fence is right by the uphill corner before Grand Army Plaza for the locals), and got close enough to snap this photo. It was really neat!
Sky was captivated, so we made a point for our next stop to be around the front entrance to try and spot the sea lions. We were able to see three of them, and this is the street view to the left of the main entrance on Flatbush Avenue.
We’ve walked through and around Prospect Park countless times since moving here, and it never ceases to amaze me. There are so many things to do and see, and it’s ever-changing with the seasons. It’s not always easy to shelter-in-place in New York City, but I sure am thankful for things like access to parks and the outdoors when we have it.
- crafting with Skyler
When we’re not outside, we’ve thriving on indoor activities like cooking, organizing, having dance parties, and doing crafts together. Skyler has always loved coloring, and he’s just starting to get into attempting crafts with me. (I’ve been trying for a while, but he would usually just run around or do something else after a few minutes without interest.)
We got a shipment in from my friends at Zulily this week, and it’s been really fun putting foam critters together and gluing buttons to the papers and cards that we color. (We have more supplies coming, so here’s a sneak peek.)
The highlight is definitely the creatures, and you can find a ton of activities that makes it easy to plan from . It looks like some of the items from my order might be out of stock right now, but you can find this crazy creatures set on Amazon. He is obsessed.

- latest workouts
Here’s a look into last week’s workouts. I generally take a long walk with Skyler and Roadie every morning or afternoon, so you can add on a few miles of brisk walking (and stopping – ha) into this mix, too.
The past week included four runs a good amount of strength workouts, which I’m happy about. I am really starting to miss going to the gym and having an uninterrupted hour with more equipment, but I feel like I’ve still been able to maintain as much as I can during this quarantine. I guess that just goes to show that at-home workouts with minimal equipment can go a long way!
Friday: 8 mile run over the Brooklyn Bridge and back. (This is becoming my favorite way to run longer distances.)
Saturday: REST (active recovery with a long walk)
Sunday: 2.6 mile casual run through the neighborhood. (I needed groceries on my way home, so when in quarantine, enjoy the time out you have!)
Monday: 45-minute Total Body Toning Workout with Jake Dupree via POPSUGAR Fitness. This one is fantastic – one of my favorites and only requires a light set of dumbbells.
Tuesday: 5.5 mile walk/hike through the park and around the neighborhood with the boys
Wednesday: 2.5 mile run followed by this Upper Body Dumbbell Strength Workout
Thursday: 25-Minute Tone It Up Total Body Boot Camp via POPSUGAR Fitness. Loved this quick and effective workout that included 3 strength circuits with cardio bursts!

You too! Hopefully there will be something unique to this one to make it feel more like a holiday hehe 😉

Enjoy the holiday weekend. So many Minnesotans are “jumping” the boarders to head to Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, and South Dakota in order to enjoy the holiday weekend. The rules are still pretty strict here in Minnesota and I think the average citizen is so over it and thinks that the restrictions are too much for our state. I know for my family we aren’t traveling but that’s because I am in the process of putting in an offer on a new house and we need to start looking for appliances that aren’t included in the purchase! I am so excited to be moving into my own place and to STOP paying rent to a landlord. 🙂
p.s. Have you been taking any of the OTF classes virtually??
Heather
Thanks Lindsay! I hope you had a great one. Congrats on the new house – that is very exciting! And I FEEL YOU on the rent to a landlord feelings … ugh one day over here. I’ve taken a few back when they first started going online, I thought they were great!
