Well, not really… but it sounded like a good title for what this post is all about! 😉
After a great morning class at the barre Tuesday, I was ready to try something new in the blender when I got home.
(The smoothie obsession continues.)
Green Smoothie
After scoping out the fridge, I noticed our spinach was about to turn so it was the perfect excuse to take a stab at my first ever green smoothie.
Normally, there’s a little more green or a little more fruit, but after looking at a few recipes online I decided to make my own version.
Ingredients
2 cups fresh spinach
1 banana
1 cup plain or vanilla yogurt
(I used Dannon Light & Fit, but Greek yogurt would work too)
1 cup orange juice
2 cups ice (for thickness)
1 scoop whey protein powder (optional)
servings: 1… and a little left over for later.
Directions
Eureka! I think I’ve got it down: measure ingredients, put into blender…
…blend.
I found the smoothie to be pretty filling, so I covered my extra half a glass and put it in the refrigerator as a snack for later.
Roadie Runs
Ever since Scott and I both began training for our half marathon back in December, runs with Roadie became slim to none.
Selfishly, we both wanted to concentrate on training, monitoring our pace and increasing our distance each week.
We still made it a point to take him for long walks, but I could tell he missed running with us.
Now that we don’t have anything to train for, it’s time that we start bringing Roadie every now and then.
He’s a great running buddy, he’s fast, and he keeps up!
The only problems we encounter with him is his incessant need to stop and smell a tree, plant, wall, or anything else every ten feet.
We’ve been trying to teach him to stay on track without distraction, and always make sure to give him a rest and water break.
Can you spot him?
There he is – cooling off with the ducks.
Roadie took to running like a pro from the very beginning and I’m very proud of him. Tuesday was his longest run to date coming in at 3.5 miles.
He was a bit on the tired side, but he did it!
Run, Roadie, Run!
Questions:
Have you ever tried a green smoothie? What’s in your favorite version?
Do any of you run with your dog?

I drink a green smoothie a few times a week. It helps me get in my veggies. I make mine with almond milk, oats, frozen banana, and spinach. Occasionally I add in some fruit, but I like to keep the sugar content down.
Heather
I bet the oats add a great texture! Love it!
Michelle (michabella)
Oh I LOVE green smoothies!!! I make mine with spinach, banana, ice, strawberries, (sometimes blueberries), honey, vanilla protein powder, coconut water. So good!
I run my short runs with my dog. He’s a trooper!
Heather
Um, YUM! I will have to give your version a try – that sounds amazing!
Cat Melnyk
Mmmm good mix, I’m gonna have to try that. I’ve been juicing two meals a day for about 2 weeks now… but I end up buying the Odwalla green superfood a lot instead of making. Time constraints, plus it’s only $5 for like a half gallon at publix.
Heather
That’s awesome, Cat. I’ve always wanted to try juicing, I’m sure I would love it because I drink so many meals anyways.
I LOVE Odwalla! I love it so much, I actually gave it up for Lent – which is probably where my smoothie kick came from 😉
Jessica @ Sushi and Sit-Ups
I love green smoothies! Bananas are a must-add ingredient. They make the texture perfect!
Heather
I agree Jessica! Plus, they’re cheap to buy in bulk and freeze, if needed.
Mallori
Just tried my first green smoothie and loved it! I used banana, greek yogurt, almond milk, spinach, and a little peanut butter. I’ll have to try your recipe next!
Heather
YUM! I need to try peanut butter in mine. Sounds delicious!
Lorraine
Oh green smoothie! I want one now. Thanks for sharing!
