Snow Day!

Hey, hey every body… it’s Fridayyyyyy!

Yesterday was the first week day I did not publish something since we moved. As you might have guessed, things have been a little nutso lately.  My time at home has dramatically lessened and my late nights of rehearsals, games, and outings have become later.  For that reason, the timing and topics on this blog have been a little on the sporadic side.

Whatever the case may be, I promise to keep up with as much healthy living posting as I can and to try to entertain you a little bit a long the way… (Insert occasional funny/embarrasing video here).

Our First Snow Day

Today is what you consider to be a Snow Day! Actually, it is our very first snow day since moving up here.  For the southerners out there, this is a day where there is too much snow fall to make it safe to drive on the roads before a school day starts.

Throughout the night, Scott and I kept hearing loud noises outside and finally realized the culprit as snow plowers.  They drive Caterpillars to clear the roads, and in our neighborhood we have a second set on call to actually go into the yards and driveways to smooth surfaces.

While we were home the other night, Roadie went crazy barking at the door and we thought he might actually break through it to get to a plower who was on our front porch.  It startled us a little bit, but now we know that is okay and believe me… we would rather leave the plowing to them!

When finding a place to live, plowing was a deal breaker for us, and we are very thankful to have them.

This snow fall may not look like very much to deal with for those of you who live with it, but for us (well me) it can look pretty intimidating, especially before it gets shoveled.

This is just after the roads were shoveled.

I had no problem sharing this photo with my mother who made sure to tell me it was a sunny 77°F, perfect convertible day down in Florida today.  Ha! That concept does not even make sense to me right now!

The weather forecast predicts another few inches today, heavy winds and temperatures in the teens and twenties.  Fortunately, we are not feeling the direct effects of Winter Storm Nemo, unlike our friends over in the Northeast states.

I am, however, intrigued by the inches that have stuck to our yard… even if it is just a few of them.

It still does not seem real when I look out of our house and into a winter wonderland.  We live here!

Breakfast for Two

When I woke up this morning, I was not expecting to have Scott here with me.  He was supposed to have two events at local schools before a home game tonight, so when he told me that most schools in our area were closed, I knew it meant a morning at home with him!

I not been very good at showing my breakfasts lately, but today included all of my regular favorites:

We split scrambled egg whites with shredded cheese, two MorningStar Farms Original Veggie Sausage Patties, and a Thomas’ 100% Whole Wheat Bagel Thin.

I smothered the bagel with some of Scott’s step-mother’s homemade apple butter and poured an extra large cup of Dunkin’ Donuts Hazlenut coffee.  I was a pretty satisfied!

Not too much later, Scott saw a few snow plowers working hard and offered the ones in our driveway a Vitamin Water.  They were very grateful, and I have a feeling our yard will be looking extra sparkly for a while.

Any ideas on how to make this guy feel better?

Since it is game day, I need to get a move on and start getting ready to take on the snow for the game tonight.  For those of you who have asked, I actually have gotten a little more used to driving in it.  Hallelujah!

Slowly but surely, we are adjusting to living up north in the winter.  I still get pointed out by friends for wearing leggings under my jeans and two pairs of socks on the “warmer” days… but it is all in good fun and my feet and legs do not really care what others think!  They stay warm and I can pretend to take the cold like it’s nothing.

As for our kiddos… they get to experience what a true snow day is like by staying indoors through it.  Lately, I have been feeling extra guilty for keeping Roadie inside so much, but I know it is too cold to take him to a dog park or even for a long walk without catching one.

This afternoon, our friend Yana has agreed to take him for the weekend and smother him with attention while Scott and I both are gone.  I am heading to Canada to celebrate a friends birthday (my first time to cross that border!) and Scott is traveling to Memphis to work a Memphis Grizzlies game.

I am anxious to see what everything looks like when we get back!
