There’s been a lot of dancing and shaking going on in my basement lately. The culprit? This high-energy new workout DVD from Sage Dance Fitness.
Recognize the pretty instructor on the right? That’s Gina, also known as The Fitnessista!
I had the privilege of getting to know her over the summer while attending FitBloggin’, and I remember her mentioning that she would soon be releasing a new dance fitness workout with her friend Sasha. It’s here!
Soli Beat is a unique high-energy cardio dance class all to the beat of live drums and rhythms. The DVD includes eight different routines in various styles including West African, Afro Brazilian, Latin, and Belly Dancing! Here’s their official teaser video to give you a visual.
Look like a BLAST right?
As someone who thoroughly enjoys dance and cardio fitness workouts, you can imagine how I was so excited to see the DVD and fancy coin belt arrive last week! Anxious to complete a workout, I popped it in my computer and completed my first one Sunday night.
Before getting started, I glanced over the Learn the Moves section, which breaks down the basic moves you need to know for each workout. Since I am a dancer, I didn’t spend too much time here, but thought it would be very helpful for someone who may not feel as comfortable with these types of movements.
The good news is you don’t have to be! You can complete the entire DVD in the privacy of your own home, by yourself if you choose. The workouts are meant to be for any level. Each routine is about eight minutes long and you pick to do as many in a row as you want.
The first one I tried was the Merengue, led by Gina. I got so excited to move my hips and shimmy, and have to deem that one as my favorite!
I then went back to the warm up (my bad for skipping it in the first place!) and completed all of them, including the belly dancing cool down.
For those of you who think dance workouts won’t do much for you… think again. After the first routine I got the idea to track the workout on my PEAR Sports app and burned over 700 calories in a little over an hour!
Here’s a snippet of the Samba Dromme to show you what to expect out of one of the routines.
I went into the workout expecting to do a few of them and couldn’t stop. I actually wanted to do all of the styles and think those of who enjoy Zumba or any type of high-energy workout class would too. I finished the workout a hot and sweaty mess and couldn’t wait to write this post to share it with you.
To Gina: thank for giving me the opportunity to review this DVD!
To everyone else: You miiiiight need purchase Soli Beat. I foresee myself revisiting it on days where I am just not feeling motivated to work out, or even if I am having a bad one. I guarantee you will have a smile on your face the entire time!
