Good Afternoon! I hinted earlier that I have some exciting news to share with you, and that’s exactly what this post is about. And, before you get too guessy-guessy over there… we’re not pregnant. (Sorry, friends!)
I received a few different packages yesterday afternoon, but I have been overly anxious waiting for a specific one of them to arrive for a while.
Ahhh!
Remember that Fitness Bucket List I shared with you last week?
I’ll give you a free guess on what really sparked it…
Officially taking the plunge and “going back to school” to become a certified personal trainer!
The desire to become a professional in the fitness industry came years ago. In fact, I always knew I wanted something to do with fitness after my college graduation. I’m guessing that my reasoning for graduating with a Bachelors of Arts in Mass Communications subliminally pointed me towards blogging, but that’s neither here nor there.
I have known in my heart that I have wanted to work in the health and fitness industry forever!
Most of you also know that I used to teach barre classes in Orlando. My time in front of a group fitness class was short lived, however, when we decided to move our lives up north and work for the NBA again.
Soon after, I started dancing for the Detroit Pistons and put my future career in fitness on hold for a while. Well, you might have already gathered this from My Last NBA Game post a few weeks ago, but after six seasons of dancing professionally, I have decided to retire my dancing boots in the NBA and move on to the next chapter in my life.
Today starts the first page of a new chapter with a goal of becoming a CPT and teach group fitness again!
The Game Plan
Signing off for the package you see above couldn’t have felt more rewarding yesterday.
After doing an extensive amount of research and talking with a handful of people in the industry, becoming a CPT is what I need to do to move forward and the National Academy of Sports Medicine seemed like the clear answer on how to get there.
They offer a variety of different programs to help you towards the final exam, and I chose the CPT Self-Study. I’ll go into more details of the program and why I went with NASM soon, but for now just know that they rock.
Don’t be swayed by that sweet back pack too long either, the real super star of this delivery was the Personal Fitness Training textbook, which might be the most expensive item for school I have ever purchased.
I plan to take the next day or two to go over the program and syllabus to create some kind of studying routine and plan of attack for myself. Until then, I guess the cat’s out of the bag!
I can’t wait to start my journey of getting certified and plan to share all of the details of how it’s going along the way.
And, to close this post, I have something for any of you interested in a program at NASM for yourself…
NASM Spring Fever Sale
(It’s like they read my mind.)
Just as I was sitting down to write this post, I received a phone call from Michael Golembewski, my contact at over NASM. He called wanting to offer any of you interesting in becoming a CPT and in the need of study materials news of a Spring Fever Sale. The special offer ends tonight, and anyone who signs up and mentions my name or Housewife Glamour will also receive a free gift!
You can most likely expect more offers down the road, but I wanted to go ahead and share this one while it’s still available! The certification process can get pricey, so if you are at all interested, I strongly encourage you to contact Mike directly via phone (602-383-1263) or email (Michael.Golembewski@nasm.org) and discuss your future goals.
Everyone I have spoken with there is very helpful and welcoming!
All right… there it is. The big news! Now I’m off to get to the rest of my Wednesday. See ya in the morning!
Disclaimer: After choosing to get certified through NASM, I reached out to the company and received a discount on my package. Even so, please know I had already decided to purchase the program, on my own, and as always, all thoughts and opinions are my own on this and any future posts!
