Hello from New York City!!
Scott pulled a fast one and somehow planned a 4-day trip to one of our very favorite cities as a birthday surprise! I can’t believe I didn’t know about it. He’s officially a rockstar in my books, and we’ve been having an absolute blast so far!
I don’t have a lot of time to chat, but I wanted to at least share some of our trip so far. How are you guys? Did you have a great weekend?
Thank you all so, so much for your sweet birthday wishes, comments, and messages over the past couple of days. I read each one with a huge smile on my face, and appreciate you guys tons!
There is already a lot to catch up on, so let’s start from the beginning and focus on my birthday.
Scott and I took an early sunrise flight into NYC and cabbed over to one of my very best friend’s apartments in Astoria as soon as we landed. We dropped our stuff, quickly changed, and were on our way out to a busy day of exploring!
We met my friend Lauren in Tribeca to join her at the Tribeca Family Festival, a kick-off to the Tribeca Film Festival. She was working one of the stages, so we hung around to check out everything afterwards. It was a fun place to be, and the weather couldn’t have been prettier!
She took us on a walk through the city that led us on a ferry ride over to Brooklyn.
(I loved this little park area!)
That was my first time riding a ferry in the city! I recognized many familiar sights like the Empire State Building and Statue of Liberty!
It was a fabulous boat ride, if I do say so myself.
I hadn’t seen Lauren in years, so a catch-up trip was looooong overdue. We’re special. <3
We disembarked into Williamsburg and walked straight to a popular weekend food market called Smorgasburg.
Smorgasburg houses many different types food stands from a variety great restaurants located in New York City and Brooklyn. It reminded me of a food truck festival, only without the food trucks. There were so many delicious-looking options and tents to choose from!
We started with a couple of orders of Thai sticky rice that was phenom…
… got a few rounds of fish balls (amazing!)
… and I rounded out my meal of random with a fresh-pressed carbonated juice from Brooklyn Soda Works.
It was fantastic!
It was such a great surprise to get to stay with Lauren and spend the next four days with her, and it just kept getting better as the day went on. My dear friend, Erin, showed up at Smorgasburg and hung with us for the rest of the day!
When we all had more than enough food and drinks in our bellies, we walked over to a friends place, recharged, and set back out for the city a couple of hours later.
(The view from the balcony wasn’t horrible, either.)
We stopped by an art gallery that featured hand-crafted surf boards on the way out and made it back to Astoria with just enough time to change and get ready to go out again.
This trip has been a blur of surprise after surprise, and I am excited to share more about our time in NYC very soon!
For now, I’ve got to get going. I don’t have time to re-read, so I apologize in advance for any typos. Have a fabulous Monday, everyone!

Aww you’re in my hood!! Hope you have a wonderful time here, and I hope everyone is especially kind to you (New Yorkers can often be a little hurried… to say the least haha)! I LOVE Smorgasburg, one of my favorite tents is the organic icee tent. They have an Arnold Palmer that is seriously the best. YUM.
Heather
I know what you mean, but everyone has been pretty nice to us!
Lu

this is a very random question, but I am wondering what shoes you are wearing in the very last picture with the “fuerza bruta” pamphlet? they are super cute and awesome! 🙂
Heather
Thank you so much, Lu! The sneakers are my friends… they’re from a couple of years back, but are Nike!
