Good morning! Today we are up and at ’em early, and by the time you are reading this I will be en route to race my first ever Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot! Since today also happens to be Thursday, I thought it would be fun to put together another Thinking Out Loud post.
A lot of you seem to like this style of chatting on the blog, so grab a cup of coffee and let’s discuss!
First things first…
1. I am so thankful.
I have so many things to be thankful for. I could write an entire post listing them off, but we’d be here forever. In short, I love (and miss) my family, I feel extremely blessed to have my friends back home as well as new loving friendships up here, to have connected with a church and built an amazing community through small groups and studies, and somehow ended up with the best husband I could ever ask for.
I get to do what I love every single day of my life, and I never want to take that for granted. I am lucky to be in good health, have a solid roof over our heads, food on the table, and also a drive to keep up with my fitness goals. I am thankful to have been blessed with three wonderful and equally awesome fur kids, but most of all I am so very thankful for you guys!
Seriously. Getting to wake up and share my random musings and talks on healthy living through this blog is something I am so incredibly grateful for. As much as I love learning, I also love inspiring and am elated to have this outlet available to share creative writing. Without your readership, I most likely wouldn’t be able to blog or do nearly as much as I do… so for that, I am eternally thankful.
Whatever you plan to do today to celebrate the holiday, I hope you get the chance to be with the ones you love, or at least give them a phone call. Consider this my long distance dial to you all. Happy Thanksgiving!
2. If you have 5 minutes, you need to make this.
Any sweet potato fans out there?
Enter this dish that is ridiculously effortless and delicious.
I had twenty minutes to cook and eat dinner on Monday. I cooked a sweet potato in the microwave (the first time I haven’t baked one in the oven), heated up half a can of Amy’s Medium Chili, topped it with a generous handful of spinach and sprinkles of cheese, then popped it all back in the microwave for a little over a minute. So easy, so yum!
3. Running in the cold hasn’t been all that awful (yet).
I’m not going to sugarcoat it… I thought I would be absolutely dreading running in the cold lately. It’s just not something I can easily motivate myself to get out there and do. Recently, however, I simply layer with the best of them and get out there to get it done. It really hasn’t been that bad!
Anyone want to join my (go when you feel like it) running club?
4. I’m wondering how much you guys like to read Holiday Gift Guides.
Would you like to see more?
I shared a holiday gift guide for Fitness Goodies last year, and would love to update it. Please let me know if you are finding this series helpful.
If so, I’ll definitely continue them!
5. We are keeping Thanksgiving dinner “light” this year.
Is that even possible? We already have what I would consider a plate full of things ready to make, so I’d love to see what that actually ends up meaning. How much are you planning on cooking/not cooking this year?
6. It’s still not cold enough for me to rule out smoothies (luckily).
It was a low of 28 degrees yesterday, and I still wanted a smoothie.
I’m so glad I’m becoming immune to the “it’s too cold to make a smoothie” way of thinking. I let myself fall deep into it last year! Proud (new) Northerner moment right here…
7. I have no interest in losing my sanity for Black Friday sales.
Except for one specific item. Our main television in our living room has a not-so-awesome tendency to produce two huge black stripes across the screen. It’s only gotten worse over the last couple of months, so Scott and I have our hearts set on bringing home a new one tomorrow.
There was a time where I would go crazy over Day After Thanksgiving sales. I would spend all day at stores picking out holiday presents for loved ones, but I’m just not into it this year. Beyond our splurge in the electronics department, I’m online or out! What about you?
8. Happy Thanksgiving!
Wishing you and your loved ones a very Happy Turkey Day!
Enjoy whatever the day may bring and safe travels to those who are making a drive or flight home.
Oh yeah, and enjoy all of the yummy eats, will ya?
See you tomorrow with this week’s edition of Friday Favorites! <3
