Good morning and very Happy Friday to you!
Here’s hoping all of my American peeps had a great Thanksgiving yesterday. Ours was packed with morning events and lots food, which is pretty standard these days. To those living outside of the United States: hopefully your Thursday was awesome as well.
Since I’m sure that a lot of you have places to be and people to spend time with, let’s get right down to this week’s collection of Friday Favorites. I’m so happy y’all enjoy this series. As always, I invite you to play along and share your favorites in the comments and link up sections below!
Friday Favorites #65: Week of 11/28
Scott told me about these the other day, and I think the concept is great.
Both men and women are going crazy over them! I haven’t seen a size Small in-stores or online since they came out. The second I do, you better believe I will have one in my closet. In person, they are super long and would be totally acceptable to wear with leggings and boots.
I need one! No but really.
• also… these Digital Dudz action sweaters
The Crackling Fireplace Jumper & Gingerbread Snack Christmas Sweater…
Hilarious!
• Mom on the jumbotron
My mom has been up here visiting with us for the week! I have really been enjoying all of the quality time I have been able to spend with her.
I am looking forward to taking her to another Detroit Pistons game tonight, but I’m not sure if it can top seeing her pop up on the big screen during the Kiss Cam with HOOPER at Wednesday’s game.
(Thanks for the photo, Karen!)
I’m glad she got to experience the embarrassment I often undergo from that crazy horse. In a loving manner, of course.
• Turkey Trot Drumstick Double
Yesterday started with a chilly run in Detroit!
It was my first time completing the Drumstick Double (10K + 5K), and I have a feeling it won’t be my last. My mom joined me for the 10K as part of her training for her upcoming half marathon, and I was so very proud of her for getting out there and facing the cold!
Keep a lookout for the full race recap coming early next week.
• Thanksgiving 2014
After a full morning of running followed by America’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in Downtown Detroit, we had worked up strong appetites for lunch and dinner. I already mentioned this yesterday, but we wanted to keep things on the “lighter” side for Thanksgiving this year.
Pshhh. Right.
We did go the easier route with the meat by purchasing herbed seasoned turkey, apricot jam flavored turkey, and honey glazed ham from Whole Foods the day before.
Mom made our family famous (Southern) Macaroni & Cheese, pumpkin pie, cranberries, and glazed carrots and peas. Scott made a dessert, our friend Adam brought pulled pork with homemade barbeque sauce, and I was in charge of the crescent rolls, cleaning, and helping out with all the odds and ends of getting everything in place.
We threw together some easy sides to make it a full meal. Boy was it ever!
Mom heated up our fresh cider from Yates in a small crock pot, and spiced it with a cinnamon stick and an apple with cloves to enjoy afterwards.
It was a great way to round out the food comas when we finished eating!
(Matchy Minnetonka moccasins alert)
Another (crazy, scheduled… but awesome) Thanksgiving is in the books at the Hesingtons, and I’m so thankful for it.
• Behavior Change Specialization (BCS) through NASM
(and a special Black Friday – Cyber Monday deal!)
Welp… it looks like I’m going to be hitting the books again! After getting my CPT through NASM, I knew it was only going to be the start of where I wanted to take my professional fitness certifications.
My goal with getting my certification in personal training is to use it as an umbrella of sorts for other specializations. The Fitness Nutrition Specialist (FNS) and Weight Loss Specialist (WLS) programs are first on my list. Knowing this, my contact over at NASM thought I would like the brand new Behavior Change Specialization (BCS) certification that closely relates to the other two I’ve had my eye on.
NASM’s new Behavior Change Specialization (BCS) helps trainers gain the knowledge, skills, and abilities involved in motivating clients to help change health and fitness related behaviors. It’s ideal for existing CPTs, dietitians and nutritionists, and health-related fields. You can learn more about the objectives of this specific program here.
Needless to say, it’s all right up my alley. I will be starting the course in the next couple of weeks, and I am excited to share the process with you!
Interested in earning a BCS yourself?
*Great News!* (NASM Special Offer)
Black Friday through Cyber Monday, NASM is running a special promotion for those looking into BCS and similar certifications. Over the weekend only, members can purchase the Behavior Change Specialization (BCS) and get the Weight Loss Specialization (WLS) for FREE! (Basically, they are offering a buy one $499 course, get one free type of situation… kind of a big deal.)

Have a great weekend!
Disclaimer: This is not a sponsored post. After reaching out to NASM about furthering my education, my BCS certification was comped in exchange for sharing my experience with the program on the blog. Even so, please know I was already on board to purchase similar certifications (on my own), and that all thoughts and opinions of NASM services are mine.
The Friday Favorites series features items I genuinely want to share with you. Please understand, however, that affiliate links are often included, and that I truly appreciate your support! <3

Hi Heather! Nice work on the running! We did a 5K too in San Diego. Those ugly sweaters are awesome, but sadly I don’t think they make one for the Warriors. Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend:)

Good morning Heather. I just started the NASM CPT program. It sounds like we have a very similar vision for where we would like to go beyond PT. I’m off to read your CPT Through NASM post. Any study or test tips you’d like to share 🙂
Have a wonderful Sunday!

Thanks for sharing a list of all the great deals. Being overseas, it was really helpful since I did not get to look at all the ads. http://www.eatallovertheworld.weebly.com
