While the following post is sponsored, I think it should be noted that I thoroughly enjoyed testing out this fancy-schmancy watch. Personally, I like reading reviews. Here’s hoping you get something out of them too! As always, all thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
Thank you for your support and readership!
Let’s talk about fitness watches. Big, techy, heart rate monitorin’ smart watches that do pretty much everything you could want or need on a run or outdoor activity.
While the screen isn’t tiny, my embarrassingly tiny wrists make the watch look bigger on me than on most. Do you want to know what makes this not-so-tiny screen cooler than most? It’s touchscreen!
The new Timex Ironman ONE GPS+ was designed for you to leave the bulk at home and carry the bare minimum on your runs. Your music and your messages on your run without your phone… check it out!
The ONE GPS+ is perfect for fitness lovers who want to enjoy the freedom of getting outdoors without having to completely disconnect from what is waiting for them when they return after what could easily be hours at a time.
I mean… you can choose to leave it all at home if you want to, but it’s nice to know that there are more safer, smarter, and lighter options available.
I had the pleasure of taking my ONE GPS+ out for a few test runs last week, and I’m already smitten.
This is the first watch that has taken over my need to open a running app on my phone and track my speed, distance, pace, and previous records. In fact, you can link your social accounts and automatically upload your runs into Strava, MapMyRun, and RunKeeper after each use.
I love the features I haven’t seen on other watches before, including a celebratory PR alert and a vibration to important notifications like mile marks, messages, and alerts.
(This run included several Roadie pit-stops, but you get the point.)
Other features that make this watch extra fun include:
• Phone-free connectivity (messaging, music, and social sharing without your phone!)
• Ability to track speed, distance, and pace in real-time
• Ability to share your performance and summaries in messages and social shares
• Wireless connectivity (to AT&T) without needing your phone on you
• Always-on, sunlight readable Qualcomm® Mirasol™ display for easy reading
• Tracking capabilities that include a custom-built safety solution (SOS alerts!)
• Built-in MP3 component that stores and plays your music
• Water resistant for up to 50 meters
If you aren’t necessarily wanting to measure a walk or run, you can still enjoy the features of the watch (without GPS) for 72 hours before needing to charge it again. With all of the bells and whistles in use, you can still utilize everything for an impressive 8 hours. I’m pretty sure that beats my sad couple hours of iPhone GPS battery any day.
To be fair in my review, I did experience some frustrations while trying to figure out the music and messaging features. Realizing I didn’t have bluetooth speakers or headphones to listen to my music anyways, I got over it and moved on without downloading music from my iTunes library. I will, however, revisit that option down the road. It would be nice to not have to carry my phone to play my tunes on every single run!
If you are one who likes to run with a watch that does way more than measure your heart rate and caloric burn, I highly suggest you check into the new Timex Ironman ONE GPS+.
I’ve been loving the vibrations and alerts that track my progress every step of the way!

That actually seems pretty handy! I know there are lots of smart watches out there but I love that this one is touch screen!
Heather
Me too! Call me a sucker, but it’s a huge selling point!
Pretty Little Grub
That seems pretty awesome. Having to bring less gadgets is always a good thing!
Heather
I agree! My hands and pockets tend to get full pretty fast with water, fuel, and my phone as it is!
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul
That is a seriously cool watch!
Brittany
That’s so cool! I always hate having to strap multiple devices on myself (ahem, in my sports bra haha).
Brie @ Lean, Clean, & Brie
This looks like an awesome watch! I love all of the features, especially that you can still stay connected while out on a long run. And the fact that it is touch screen makes it even cooler!
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment
That looks like a very cool watch! A lot of extra features.
Emma @ Life's A Runner
I’ve never heard of a watch that also lets you play music! That definitely sounds like something I would be interested in. I’ve been going back and forth over whether or not I want to upgrade my Garmin 10, and this has definitely been added to the mix!
Heather
I know, I’m completely intrigued and want to take advantage of that feature in the future!

Thanks for the review, Heather. I saw this watch at REI this past weekend, and was a little shocked by the hefty price tag. I am very intrigued, however, by all of the features. And the size doesn’t even bother me too much – it’s a fitness tracking watch, ya know? not jewelry – but I’m curious to hear in your opinion, if it felt heavy during any of your runs?
Heather
No! I should have included this in my review… it may look on the big side, but it’s super light! I barely even notice I’m wearing it on my runs.

Your disclaimer made me laugh, “fancy-shmancy.” 🙂
I have never had a heart rate monitor watch as I tend to become obsessive with numbers (working on a solid recover from an eating disorder), but I have been fascinated by the mechanics of them. I think if I ever get to a place where I feel comfortable for training for a race (the healthy way), I have a feeling I will be shelling out for a nice watch. This one looks fantastic, and I’ll definitely consider this one!
Heather
Aw, thank you for sharing Julia. And good for you for actively working on getting past your ED <3 It's definitely only good to start training or running when you feel completely ready and comfortable with it. Hugs to you! xo
