Good morning and Happy August! I can’t believe we’re already here.
This year is a complete mystery to me … where is it going? Right? But enough about that … let’s chat about the weekend. I hope y’all are coming off of a great couple of days and are rolling into Monday with a smile.
Scott and I had an extremely low-key weekend! We deemed Friday our date day and enjoyed a long walk around Prospect Park in the morning followed by an afternoon of lunch, exercise, and movies at home.
(The majority of these photos were taken and saved from LIL Snapchat!)
I definitely should have taken more pictures, because we took a new route home and it was so beautiful. Some of the brownstone homes around the park are just unreal. We took our time, talked about some opportunities coming up in the next couple of weeks, and loved being outside as much as Roadie did.
I feel very thankful to live so close to the park, and we are trying to take advantage of the summer days (that aren’t scorching hot) as much as possible.
After our walk, we changed and set out for lunch in the area. We decided to dine out for lunch instead of dinner because you can always find great lunch specials. We walked down to 5th Avenue and into Sushi Yashin after seeing their sign that advertised two sushi rolls, a ginger salad, and miso soup for $9!
Sold. I ordered California and Avocado & Asparagus rolls (the options were slim), and got an important phone call right before I was going to take a picture of them. They were good, but I would like to try a few of their specialty rolls next time. The ginger salad, however, was awesome. The dressing was on the bottom and tasted different than any other ginger dressing I’ve tasted. I loved it!
We ran a couple of errands after lunch and then may or may not have stopped for homemade popsicles from Sai Thai Kitichen on the way back home. Cheers!
Scott ordered the lychee and I picked the Thai coffee and cream which was perfection.
Shortly after we got home, I asked Scott if he wanted to take a fitness class together in the City. I have been raving about FlyBarre, so I wanted Scott to try it with me. We were both pumped!
Not all barre studios allow men to take class, so I was happy when I walked into my first class and saw a male instructor! It was really challenging and left me sore for days. When I asked how Scott liked his first FlyBarre class, he dropped to his hands and and knees to crawl up the stairs. I’m guessing he felt the same way. #thatbarreburntho
The studio just so happens to be right next to Dylan’s Candy Bar, so naturally, Scott led me in to stock up on an unnecessary amout of sugar. Talk about working hard in class just to waste it all away. Whoops.
We had plans to take the candy with us to go see a movie, but we decided to head home instead and curled up on the couch for the rest of the night. It was a great day!
The rest of the weekend can be summed up with food and pajamas. It was sprinkling or raining on and off Saturday and Sunday, which made getting outdoors quite a challenge. I’m not complaining though. After a few weekends of being go, go, go, some quality time with the fur kids and Netflix is just what I needed.
I didn’t get as much work done around the house or on the computer as I’d hoped, but I’m okay with it. That’s what low-key weekends are for, right?
Weekly Workouts
(July 25 – 31st, 2016)
I am keeping things short and sweet today with more details and reviews of the classes I took (thanks to my ClassPass membership) coming at you tomorrow.
Here’s what the latest Weekly Workouts looked like for me!
- Monday – REST
- Tuesday – 4 mile park run with Roadie
- Wednesday – 10 minute Fat-Blasting Workout via POPSUGAR (<- whoa, this was a good one!)
- Thursday – 60 minute FlyBarre class
- Friday – 60 minute FlyBarre class
- Saturday – 60 minute FlyBarre class
- Sunday – REST
I definitely spent a lot of time at the barre this week. It was my first time trying FlyBarre, and I absolutely loved it! The 60 minutes in class went by in a flash, but at the same time, those were the most challenging barre minutes I’ve experienced yet. I’ll be sharing more on the blog soon.
Looking back at my week, I could have spread the classes out a bit and upped my cardio. One thing I made sure to do was embrace my rest days. 😉
That’s it for now, friends. Here’s to a new day, a new week, and a new month!

Questions of the Day
• What was one highlight from your weekend?
• What is one thing that you’re looking forward to this week?
One thing I’m excited for this week is a girls’ night/pizza party tonight to watch the season finale of The Bachelorette. Ahhh! Who else will be watching? Who do you think will get the final rose, and will there be a proposal?!

What a fun day date. Those are the best. I remember when I would have off on a Friday and my husband would (he’s off every other friday) and we’d make a day of it. I definitely miss those days! The candy is icing on the cake, ha. Highlight from my weekend was boating!

Oh that’s a great perk! There are a few companies I know of that do “Summer Fridays” and I think it’s a fabulous idea. Boating! Ahhh, my dream. Enjoy the week!

FlyBarre sounds so fun! I wish there was something like that close to where I live! Also love the candy you got at Dylan’s 🙂 It’s nice to treat yourself to candy every once in a while, right? haha!

Of course! I have to say, however, that Scott is the candy fiend. I love candy, but he DEVOURS it! Haha

Pretty much! 😉 Nothing wrong with a little R&R!
Hannah {Hannah at Home}
What a fun date day! I haven’t convinced my hubby to try barre with me yet… I’m going to show him this 😉 Flybarre is probably my favorite barre class – I feel like it is so high energy and all of the instructors are in killer shape!
Heather
Yes, they are! FlyBarre is pretty tough. I love that it’s connected to FlyWheel and seems much more inviting to males 😉
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job
We live right across the street from a Dylans here in Chicago. The struggle is real haha.

Morgan @ Morgan Manages Mommyhood
I always want to go to Dylan’s when we go ot the city (we’re in NJ) but my sweets hating hubs says no. Which, I mean, is probably a good thing, ha!
Katie
My friend from highschool just started teaching FlyBarre in your area!!
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment
Haven’t tried FlyBarre yet. Pretty low key weekend here as well. Those popsicles look so good!

I was in New York too this weekend for a dance teacher conference and the rainy weather definitely made me want to curl up under some covers so I’m super jealous of that! The conference in itself was a highlight of my weekend since I learned so much to bring back to the dance classes that I teach. And this week I’m looking forward to having some free time to sit down and read a good book!
