Hi folks! How the heck are you? I’m doing pretty well over here, rockin’ this beautiful Monday.
A large coffee, a trip to Fitness Pilates, a warm shower, and a colorful lunch seems to have put me in a pretty stellar mood! I have plans to check out a trail in our neighborhood later with a friend, but wanted to check in before I set off to enjoy this gorgeous weather outside (FINALLY!).
So where did we leave off… Friday? Yeah! After foam rolling the morning away, I was off to assist a crazy horse mascot for the day and then enjoy the weekend. Here he is in all of his mischievous, playful glory…
Say hello to HOOPER, friends!
One perk of having a flexible schedule this summer is my availability to do more appearances as both a Pistons Dancer and as HOOPER’s assistant. I just got word that I will putting the outfit you see above on a few more time this week, and will be sure to share any out-of-the-ordinary funny experiences with you.
Getting to Dance Again
Since we are officially in an NBA off-season, I have not done much dancing. I have done a few events in the community, but have not gone to take any classes or clinics in my area. When Saturday rolled around, I was really excited/nervous to get back to the court and dance again.
I attended the first of a few “mini conventions” hosted by the Pistons Academy. It was called The Drop and entailed three hours of learning and performing choreography from one of our coaches, as well as a special guest choreographer/dancer Misha Gabriel.
In three hours, we learned two face paced routines. After searching around You Tube, I found the “Get Lucky” routine we learned from Misha. (The choreography you see in the first verse and chorus.) Isn’t he awesome?!
It was different than any style I have done before, but SO much fun! Misha has a very impressive dance background, with my favorite being a principal dancer selected for Michel Jackson’s This It It tour (and movie). It felt amazing to get to dance again.
Unfortunately, however, I am not sure my body was quite ready as my mind was. I left the arena a hot and sweaty, bruised and battered mess!
Welcome back to dancing, body!
(With a special shout out to Mr. Foam Roller again for the weekend.)
After an afternoon of hard work, I went over to a girl on our team’s house for some pool and relax time. I headed home a few hours later to get ready for a game night Scott set up to host at our house.
Last game night we hosted, I was in the kitchen preparing lasagna and snacks for quite a while… but this one was all on him. Since I previously had plans, all of the cooking became his responsibility and I had been looking forward to some of his good eats (you will see below) all day!
Sunday FunChill Day
Game night was fun, but very chill. Not as intense as most nights we pull out Catch Phrase… which is probably a good thing. Do any of you play that game? It gets unbelievably competitive, and I love it!
We woke up a little later than normal Sunday with a goal of catching up on things. We have been proudly crossing items off of our “Things to Purchase” list recently, with one of the latest buys being this kitty condo.
I’m not sure the cats are on board though, considering have barely even looked at the thing. (Lies!)
Actually, they are quite obsessed with it. We have been wanting to get one for them to play and lay in forever and finally found a good one at a great price from Petco this weekend.
Appreciative, as always.
To all the dads out there (do any of you read this blog?!) I hope you had a very Happy Father’s Day! This is the first one I have spent away from home, and I was a little down about not being able to spend it with my family yesterday.
I made sure to let my dad know I am thinking of him by sharing a photo montage of our first dance together that took place at our wedding.
He sure has some some sweet moves and isn’t afraid to show them! He is the absolute best, and from what I hear had a well-deserved great day full of golf, food, and family.
We had a considerably chill Sunday. After cleaning up the house, Scott and I took full advantages of the leftovers for lunch.
It is summer, but he just couldn’t resist making a batch of his Spicy Brisket Chili. He then went on to whip up his homemade salsa, queso (both recipes I have yet to document), and guacamole dips. I guess you can say we have a slight love for dips around here.
Lunch started with a full bowl of chili, and continued to stop for treats while running errands.
Our last stop of the day was at Staples for something I have been wanting for over a year now. I have never owned a “real” office chair before, and it literally took my sorry excuse of a clearance chair from Wal-mart to break before we finally took the leap to purchase one.
Meet Ebony! She is a Bresser Luxura Managers Chair and is way more comfortable than she puts off.
Without any cushions or pillows, I am shocked at how soft and comfortable she is to sit down for hours at a time in. I am so proud to call her mine!
And with that, I think we are fully caught up on things around here. Time to get outside and do some trail exploring. Have a great rest of your day!
Question of the Day
• Have you ever bounced back into a hobby or sport you have taken some time off from? Was it easy, or did you have to work your way up to feeling comfortable again?
Dance is a very funny thing for me. I can go a year without taking class, and usually if I continue stretching I can keep up with what is going on. Every once in a while (like this weekend!), I will pop into a class and feel like I am working and breathing harder than any run or workout I have ever experienced. This is also when I feel my older dancer age of 28. Still love every bit of the rush though!

Yes, I can relate! I was in a similar situation several years ago….I’ve been a dancer all my life, and after college I thought I wouldn’t dance again. After a year out of it, I decided to try out for my city’s NFL team. You are right, it wasn’t too hard to get back into the swing of things, but as you get older, you certainly feel it in places you didn’t before! 🙂

For sure! Good for you for getting back out there 🙂 It’s funny how you start to miss it!
