Holy twentieth What I Ate Wednesday Batman! Leave it up to a numbered weekly post series to show you how fast time flies… sheesh.
I feel like this summer has especially gone by faster than ever. It’s already almost mid-August? Wow. Things aren’t going to be slowing down anytime soon, but I have always said I would rather be busy than bored… so no complaints here!
Today, I am running around like a nut case trying to get ready for a week’s vacation. Tonight, Scott and I will be leaving to go visit his family in Missouri/Arkansas. I always love our trips home. This will be our final week of leisure and family time before another busy NBA season starts, so we are really looking forward to it.
Speaking of the NBA season, I am sure a lot of you are wondering what the heck happened to the audition series I was posting about a few weeks ago. Well, to make a long story short we are still in the process of forming a team. Making and keeping your spot on a professional sports dance team is not as easy as one might think, and at the moment we have more girls than spots. Wish me luck as I continue to audition for the next few weeks!
Now that you are properly updated with what is going on in my life, let’s move on to the usual Hump Day treat, WIAW!
As always, thanks for hosting another day of healthy eats, Jenn!
What I Ate Wednesday Tuesday
Breakfast started shortly after I woke up with the usual giant cup of coffee, except something was different this time. Can you guess what?
No milk or sugar! Yup… I enjoyed one of my first cups of “black coffee” and didn’t seem to miss the additives one bit. Drinking coffee au natural is something I hope to do every once in a while, and I think the grounds you choose for your cup make all the difference. Since I have been thoroughly enjoying the flavors I shared last WIAW from BIGGBY Coffee, I haven’t really needed much else.
With a vacation upon us, I am on a mission to empty my refrigerator by consuming whatever might spoil while we are gone. Enter Key Lime Blended Chobani Greek yogurt!
Have you tried their blended yogurt flavors yet? Also in our fridge is the Orange Vanilla I am anxious to try today. I haven’t been disappointed yet!
On top of my yogurt, I sprinkled a variety of goodness including raw unsalted almonds, fresh blueberries, and flax seeds.
My mid-morning snack brought me right back to Grandma’s house with a serving (or three) of her homemade apple sauce.
It has a bit of a green tint to it because it is made with her green apples straight from the tree. So sweet and delish!
Lunch soon followed with a turkey wrap, which included exactly what needed to be used up.
I started with a Smart & Delicious™ High Fiber, Low Carb Whole Wheat tortilla from La Tortilla Factory, then added spinach, yellow (golden?) grape tomatoes, sliced carrots, and Sabra Roasted Pine Nut hummus with a little bit of shredded cheese.
It was loaded to the point of needing a fork to finish everything, which is just how I like ’em!
Knowing I was going to Boot Camp, I saved my dinner for when I would return home later that night. Instead, I grabbed a White Chocolate Macadamia Zone Perfect protein bar to hold me over.
As well as a few handfuls of Emerald Cocoa Roast almonds.
Even if you aren’t a huge fan of almonds, I urge you to try these bad boys. They are perfect for a healthy (filling!) snack on the go, and have helped calm my sweet tooth many-a-times!
Upon my return home at about 9:30 p.m. I was pretty hungry and excited to try out a new find. Have any of you tried Evol Foods before?
I found this dinner in the freezer section right next to the Amy’s Kitchen burritos I am in love with. All of their dinners looked great, but the Fire Grilled Steak stood out to me the most.
Ohhhhh my, was it good… and it tasted pretty darn close to Chipotle too! After studying the label and packaging, I am even more impressed by the brand and will definitely be purchasing more from them in the future.
Dessert came in the form of a big ‘ol glass of Light Chocolate Silk, which is no surprise.
Why it looks strawberry, I have no idea. I guess that’s what I get for being lazy and using my iPhone with night time lighting.
Well, friends, I’m off. Time to run a few errands and get a few posts ready to go for the week ahead. Hope you all have a fabulous Wednesday!
Question of the Day
• If you must turn to the freezer for dinner, what is your favorite brand for dinner entrees?
As you know, I am a sucker for both Amy’s and have a new found love for Evol. I am trying to be super conscious of what is hiding behind brands (GMOs! cough cough) lately, and am starting to turn to new lines I know are 100% all natural and organic. I used to live on Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers, but know they are loaded with sodium and other hidden chemicals. Sometimes you just need an effortless meal to grab, and I would be grateful for any feedback to help steer me in the right direction!

I’ve had the Evol burritos before andI thought they were delicious! I relied on Amy’s 1-2 times EVERY day when I was in college. So eas and fast!
Heather
I. LOVE. AMYS!!! 🙂
Jillienne@ChasingRaspberries
I love the Trader Joe’s frozen dinners! They have surprisingly natural ingredients and usually less sodium that other brands.
Heather
Sounds great! Love Trader Joes! Thanks for the idea 🙂
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl
Homemade applesauce is the BEST! I need to try making some.
Heather
Me too! Mine could never compare to hers though.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Yay for black coffee! When I first started drinking coffee, I used to drown it in milk and sugar, but these day I actually love it without nothing added – adding things actually tastes a little funny to me. Oh! But have you ever tried adding in a sprinkle of cinnamon?? Seriously good stuff!
Heather
Mmm that sounds great!! It’s funny how our coffee preferences change over the years.
Kathryn @ Illustrated Nutrition
All of your eats look so healthy and delicious! I’m happy to hear those cocoa roasted almonds are a catch! I’ve seen them in the store before but I have been nervous to try them (despite the fact that I love chocolate and almonds too). Next time I’m going to have to pick them up.
Heather
They definitely get me through some hungry afternoons! 🙂
Amie @ Running On Healthy
I sincerely hope you get a spot on the team. I also hope that if you are one of the girls who will be voted on by fans that you will share the link and the time frame so that readers can vote for you!
Heather
Aw thanks Amie! I’ll be sure to keep everyone posted when I know more!
Tiff @ Love Sweat & Beers
Aww, you so pretty! Good luck with the rest of auditions.
I have an Evol bowl in my freezer now. Can’t wait to try it!
Heather
Thank you Tiff!
Christa @ Situps & Sequins
I think I’m missing out on this whole hummus-in-a-wrap thing, it sounds delicious! I used to eat Lean Cuisines A LOT more than I should, during my college years….then I realized how high the sodium content is and the true nutritional value is less than ideal. I would love to try an Evol bowl though, it’s always good to have a last minute quick and easy option on hand. 🙂
P.S. You look fantastic! Good luck with the rest of auditions!
Heather
Oh you are, sister! Try it on salads too! Thanks for the well wishes 🙂

Ugh, we lived off frozen dinners when we first got married now I try, stress try to stay away from them by freezing home made dinners. But still we are suckers for stouffer’s lasagna when we are busy!
Heather
That’s a great way to keep healthy and still feel like you are eating a homemade dinner when you are in a rush!
kate@ kate marrin life+style
I never eat frozen dinners because I don’t own a microwave:(( Sad me… but I can make a mean fast dinner out of hummus carrots + pita;) Good luck with the job!!
Heather
Mmmmm that sounds like an amazing dinner to me! (LOVE hummus!)
Brittany @ GOtheXtraMile
I still haven’t ventured into the black coffee world… I like mine with a dash of cream and stevia 🙂 Good luck on continuing auditions!
Heather
Thanks Brittany! I have a feeling it will only happen every once in a while. 😉
Maria@the_brooklyn_fig
Good luck with your continued auditions!
My go-to frozen brands are probably Amy and Kashi- I tend to stay away from freezer meals but we all know convenience sometimes weighs out!
Heather
Love Kashi!!
Lisa
I adore black coffee – it’s my favorite!
Good luck continuing with auditions!
Heather
Thanks Lisa!!
Christina @ The Beautiful Balance
I will definitely be on the hunt for those almonds!
Heather
I can usually find them pretty easy at the grocery store! 🙂
Kaitlyn
Good luck with the rest of your auditions! I can’t even imagine how nerve-wracking the whole process is!
Heather
Thanks Kaitlyn!

I actually don’t have a microwave but i love trader joe’s frozen masala burgers (veggie) and heat them in a pan to top a salad. TJ’s also has a great frozen quinoa/veggie mix i keep in case of emergencies and then i just add spinach or edamame or both.
london hotels airport
There are several hotels in London, which offer their bars for any happening party in London.
But then, you will find still four star hotels which can be great for having many stars but still offer rooms in a lesser
price. The Tube conveniently links track of London Bus stops and British Rail stations.
