Today started on a much later note than I expected. We had a home game last night and with a couple of friends in town, our night turned into ending quite late. I guess that’s okay to do every once in a while!
On top of waking up tired, my body has also been a bit on the sore side. With practice coming up tonight and another home game tomorrow, I knew I didn’t want to do a crazy workout that would leave my legs weak, so I decided to try something new to get my blood movin’ this morning.
I hopped onto Amazon Prime and browsed their online workouts. I’m loving the service and free video streaming selection so far!
Thinking getting a good stretch in might be the best idea, I narrowed down my selection to Yoga. One of the first videos I stumbled upon was Jillian Michael’s Yoga Meltdown workout, so I decided to give it a go.
Jillian Michaels Yoga Meltdown Workout
This may come as a surprise to some of you, but I had never completed any one of Jillian Michaels’ workouts before. I keep hearing how awesome she is, and I know that yoga isn’t her specialty per se, but I figured the video would at least help me start my day off on the right note.
I actually completed this same workout a few days ago!
(Don’t mind the rolled up baggy sweat pants)
From what I have heard about her style of workouts, I expected her to be loud and motivating, rather than calm and quiet like most yoga instructors. That she was!
The music playing the background was upbeat, and she took her time explaining the exercises. She had two demonstrators doing the class at different levels, one beginner and one advanced, which made it easy to feel comfortable and challenged at the same time.
She even noted how she considers herself to still be a beginner at the practice, which made it feel less intimidating.
The hour long workout included two 30-minute classes and went from Level 1 to Level 2. I enjoyed the first one so much, that I just kept rolling on to the next and completed both levels each time.
I love taking yoga classes, but have to admit that I get discouraged whenever there is a headstand or advanced move option I have no kind of ability to complete. I know it takes practice and discipline to move through a lot of the movements in yoga, but every time I take a class I feel like I should be better at some of the balancing.
Practicing at home gave me the chance to go through motions and holds I have tried before and fallen over. I love the idea of popping in a DVD in the privacy of my home to gain more skills, without being that girl who falls over and knocks someone square in the face next to me during class. 😉
It was great!
I also liked Jillian’s style of teaching. In this video, she demonstrated the exercises, then gave options of modifications or extra challenges.
Throughout them all, she included a lot of great information like what muscles we were currently working and why workouts like yoga are so great for incorporating stretching and flexibility into your fitness routine. I even got a little sweaty!
Breakfast
Wrapping up, I headed upstairs and quickly grabbed a big bowl of Blackberry Overnight Oats for breakfast before hitting the shower.
Now it’s time to start thinking about lunch. See you all in just a bit!

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Jillian Michael’s yoga workout video. It was extremely intense and I barely got through it, but I loved it!

Someone was just in the gym today trying Jillian Michael’s Inferno (?) Yoga…. I’m ashamed to admit I haven’t I haven’t tried any of her video’s yet…. Maybe that’s my goal for this weekend. Which should I try first?

So glad I stumbled upon your blog! I haven’t tried anything JM (she kind of scares me to be honest, I usually go for the more sweet/calm instructors), but maybe I should try something from her.

I haven’t tried any of her videos yet either. I think her intensity scares me a bit!
Xiomara @ Parkesdale
Ha! I picked up one of her yoga videos a few weeks back but I have yet to try it. Maybe I will get to it soon!
Heather
Awesome!
