Hi friends! I hope you had a wonderful weekend and are getting settled into the beginning of a new week.
Ours was… packed, which was great. I have a couple time sensitive projects to knock out today, so that is a big reason why I am coming to you later than usual. While I could elaborate on several stories included in the events that made up our weekend, I will refrain and keep this recap moving along!
Friday
It had been ages since Scott and I had a date night (alone), so I was really looking forward for Friday night to come around. We left the house around 7:30 p.m. and drove over to Birmingham, which is easily becoming our favorite area to dine out.
The night started with dinner reservations at Hyde Park Prime Steakhouse.
We don’t treat ourselves to a fancy dinner too often, so it was refreshing.
We were impressed by the menu and (per usual) split an entree to be able to try more and save room for dessert.
Everything was delicious! We originally made plans for dinner and a movie, since we were right next to the theater. (Isn’t it cute?)
As soon as we were getting ready to leave, we got a call from some friends. They invited us to hang at a pub right down the street, so we joined them instead. It was a fun way to end the week!
Saturday
I planned to do my long training run Saturday morning, but the weather had other plans. Since it was cold and rainy out, I spent the day catching up on your Friday Favorites (I just love you guys!) and studying. Before long, it was time to get ready for a wedding!
I danced with the bride, Ashley, my first year on the Pistons Dance Team and Bub, the groom, is still a part of the Pistons Flight Crew Dunk Team with Scott! They had a beautiful ceremony at their home church in Brighton.
We drove over to the reception ready to celebrate, and I was happy to get there with enough time to snap some photos in the daylight.
I loved the idea of labeling mason jars for seat assignments.
Each guest grabbed a straw and used their mason jar as their beverage holder for the remainder of the night!
Although it was chilly out, we were comfortable enough inside of the tent once the heaters warmed up.
I loved the look of the paper lanterns and lights. Everything was simply decorated, yet very chic and adorable.
The coolest part was the pond built especially for the occasion next to the bar. It was a neat and unique touch!
After the bridal party finished taking their photos, they made their way into the reception and I was able to capture a glimpse of the happiness and joy the newlyweds shared. They were so cute!
After all of the formal traditions, it was time to tear up the dance floor. With our Pistons fam by our sides, that is exactly what Scott and I did.
This photo caught the flash from the photographer, but it turned out cool enough to share anyways!
As expected, Scott and I also made our way over to the photo booth several times throughout the night. Those are always a great idea!
I just can’t with Scott’s facials in the last one. Hilarious.
It was certainly a fun and romantic wedding!
Congratulations Ashley + Bub!
Sunday
Our alarms went off early on Sunday and Scott and I pulled up to the 2nd Annual Pistons Fit 5K right at 8:30 a.m. Longtime HWG readers might remember me racing this with my team last year!
I entertained the thought of running again, but held off when I remembered the ten training miles I needed to get to later on that day. Good thing I did, because the crazy horse (HOOPER) kept me plenty busy.
While he is always a challenge to corral, I was proud of our mascot for running the full (1 mile) kids run right alongside of them.
HOOPER officially hired a full-time assistant today, so it looks like I will no longer be needed as a temporary fill-in.
(Phew! Just in time for the start of Pre-season tomorrow!)
Thanks for a fun and entertaining summer, big guy!
After the completion of the event, Scott and I just made it to the late-morning service at our church. We grabbed a quick lunch afterwards, then I headed home while he stayed at the arena for the remainder of the day. With games starting this week, the summer and flexibility in our schedules is officially over!
About an hour after I got home, I threw dinner in the crock pot and set out for my ten mile run. The last time I ran this kind of distance was two years ago while I was training for my first half marathon!
I was a bit nervous, but knew I could power through.
It wasn’t horrible, and in fact, as enjoyable as running ten miles solo can be. I’ll make sure to share the details in this week’s training recap.
As soon as I got back inside, I hopped in the shower and got right back out the door. I am really enjoying my time as a small group leader for our youth ministry on Sunday nights!
I grabbed Scott after I left church and we made an impromptu stop by the grocery store to stock up for the week.
With an arrival back after 11 p.m., I guess you could say our relaxing Sunday afternoon and evenings home will be revisited once the season is over. Never a dull moment!

Like I mentioned earlier, I need to jet and work on few important projects you will see appear over the next couple of weeks. I have some digging into the Word to do before our small group bible study tonight, dinner to prepare in the crock pot (<- lifesaver these days!) and of course, studying to get to. I can’t believe my CPT test is next week!
I’m hoping to squeeze in today’s training run as well, so I will be back tomorrow morning with last week’s training recap.
Have a marvelous rest of your Monday!

Best part of my weekend was spending time with friends at Oktoberfest!!! beer, carbs and friends! Nothing better!

Photobooths give an excuse to act like a complete idiot for at least a minute. What’s not to love? And YUM to all things included in your Oktoberfest!
