Good morning! It’s Friday, and I’m pretty pumped about it.
I’m making a solid effort to avoid solely talking about New York, but it’s tricky. You see, we are officially moving into our apartment tomorrow (!!!), so I have a feeling that there will be a lot of updates coming your way. I hope you enjoy following our journey! Don’t worry, I’ll be sure to sprinkle in some health and fitness content along the way.
Do you have any big plans for the weekend? Any lack of plans (that can be equally as exciting?)
In true end-of-the-week fashion, today’s post is all about Friday Favorites. This is where I cover things that made me smile over the course of the week, and I always invite you to play along in the comments and link up sections below. Enjoy!
Friday Favorites #137: Week of 4/15
• Marc Jacobs embossed hearts smartphone wallet
I already miss my clients that I had the pleasure of working with in Michigan. Most spoiled me with thoughtful gifts around the holidays or big events, and one picked out for me shortly after she found out that we planned to move to New York.
It’s great for keeping all of the essential cards and cash organized, and I love that there is a built-in pocket to hold my phone. It’s almost like a mini clutch.
This wallet came wrapped up in a pretty silver box from Nordstrom, and you can find the same embossed heart pattern in different styles , , and .
• Trader Joe’s mini chocolate bars
It’s no secret that I have a bit of a sweet tooth. It always catches up with me after dinner at night, and I have been loving these mini cacao dark chocolate bars.
The portion size is spot on! Each bar is only 0.63 of oz, so it’s just the right amount to satisfy a craving and completely okay if you end up having a few. I’m not sure if there will be a Trader Joe’s near us, but I will do my best to find these bad boys and keep them stocked. It looks like you can also find them on Amazon!
• Hoboken, New Jersey – Frank Sinatra’s Hometown
Scott and I have really been enjoying our stay in Jersey City. It’s only a short walk to Hoboken, which we quickly found out is the hometown of Ol’ Blue Eyes.
We made a heck of a walk over to the Downtown area the other day for pet food, and we stumbled upon a famous site on the way home … Frank Sinatra’s birthplace and Sidewalk Star!
It’s located at 415 Monroe Street for the locals who haven’t visited.
Unfortunately, his house burned down some time ago, and his museum “From Here to Eternity” has closed, but the star still remains. Maybe a museum will open up again one day … who knows? I still thought it was pretty neat.
• Mayfair bath salts
Speaking of staying at our friend’s house in Jersey City, we were greeted by a very thoughtful welcome basked upon our arrival last Thursday! Next to some of our favorite snacks, water bottles, and towels, we found , and they smell amazing.
I took advantage of having access to a bath tub the other night and thoroughly enjoyed the salts! I got out of the tub feeling incredibly relaxed, and I couldn’t get enough of the sea lily jasmine scent.
The brand is paraben and phthalate-free, and each purchase contributes towards making a charitable donation to help improve the quality of life and health for kids and families around the U.S. (I’m making a mental note to also keep this stocked in our apartment at all times!)
• Brooklyn Nets game
Diving right into things to do in Brooklyn, Scott and I attended our first Brooklyn Nets game on Wednesday. It was actually the last game of their season, and it was cool to see the Barclay Center as well as a NBA game from another environment.
While we live in Brooklyn, I feel like we will be fans of all New York sports teams. Is that wrong? I am looking forward to going to a New York Knicks game next season (my first visit to Madison Square Garden was back in 2012!) and I can’t wait to get to the baseball fields and enjoy this beautiful spring weather. (Yankees or Mets? We don’t know yet … ha.)
I shared this photo on Instagram while we were at the game, and some people asked if we moved to Brooklyn for Scott to work for the Nets. Well, no … that’s not the plan … but it would be hard for him to turn an opportunity down if it came up!
• Michigan fr-amily
As much as we are looking forward to getting settled into our new environment in New York, there is a part of us that will always remain in Michigan. We had our fair share of hardships there, but we also gained an incredible support system. Before we set out for the Big Apple, we shared a farewell dinner at Alex’s parents’ house.
Jon and Rene have been extremely generous and have taken us in on holidays and family events over the past few years. Thank you so much for making it feel like we had family close by! We will miss your gatherings (and cooking) very much!
It’s always hard to say goodbye to friends when you move away, but lucky for us, we we will get to see these faces in just a few weeks! Alex, Alex, Liam, and a handful of others will be joining us in Orlando for the Invictus Games next month. I can’t wait to catch up with them and plan their (mandatory) visit to see come see us very soon!

Those bath salts look awesome. My tub is in dire need of a good scrubbing before I’ll be ready to take a soak, but I think I”m going to add that to my weekend list now!
Love hearing all the NYC updates!

Thanks Lindsay, it might be some time before I share our place … just because I have a feeling it will take some time to get everything together. Step by step, right?!
Patricia @Sweet and Strong
Happy Friday! Loving that clutch your client gave you, so cute. And when I moved to DC from Cleveland I never thought I would like Maryland or DC teams, but I enjoy watching sports so much it’s hard not to become a bit of a fan of the teams you live by. Good luck with the move this weekend, can’t wait to see pics of your place!
Heather
It’s alwasy fun to dive into the culture and cheer on a home team 🙂 Happy weekend!

Ellen @ My Uncommon Everyday
Your smartphone wallet is adorable! Ever since coming to Chicago, I rarely carry a purse and I love it. I don’t really need anywhere to put car keys here, so a little smartphone wallet with all my important cards is much more discreet and convenient and it prevents me from lugging around a bunch of stuff I don’t need.
I love reading about your NYC journey in addition to all your regular content. It’s a big part of your life, and blogging feels most authentic to me when it’s not perfectly consistent (because life totally isn’t). Have a fabulous weekend!

I love how you and your husband are making the best of your situation. My boyfriend currently does not work and it takes a toll on our relationship, but we do make the best of it. But it’s hard!

The way we see it, you can sit and be sad about how things or jobs or life didn’t turn out how you planned, or you can embrace the situation and move forward! Losing a job is rough. You just have to lean on each other for support!
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West
Happy Friday, Heather! It’s totally okay to be excited and want to talk about nothing but your new City and area! Keep doing it!! 🙂

I lived in Park Slope for two years and you have SO MANY GROCERY wonderfulnesses near you.
* You do have a TJ’s, it’s in Cobble Hill; you can walk or take the F. It’s in an old bank building and is super cool.
* The fancy Whole Foods is on 4th in Gowanus.
* Fairway is in Red Hook. Harder to get to but..the best way to explain Fairway is to Floridians because its essentially like a Publix. Amazing.
* Union Market!!! There’s two in the Slope. It’s a super artisanal wonderful market of perfectness.
* Ignore the haters and look into the Park Slope Food Co-op. It’s a little weird with its rules and bylaws and hoops to jump through but you have access to fresh unique amazing produce, goods, CHEESES, and spices at a fraction of the price of anywhere else. In the country.
* The Sunday Farmers market at Prospect Park is a great one.
* The Saturday Farmers market on 7th is super cute if tiny.
*You can take the F to the Union Square Farmers Market and die of delicious produce overload.
*While you’re in Union Square stop into The Garden of Eden. It’s just delightfully old school and lovely.
I’m glad I moved back to the west coast for a lot of reasons but I miss the grocery wonderland in New York.
*Theres an obscure and incredible little coffeeshop in the Slope called Postmark that you should check out. It was my second home while I lived there.

Hi Darci! WOW, thank you for all of these great suggestions! We’ve only been here for one full day and I’m already in love. We are still getting settled in, but I am really looking forward to venturing out and stocking the fridge tomorrow. We are super close to Whole Foods, so I’ll probably start there … but we will explore this list for sure. Thanks so much!

I LOVE Frank Sinatra. I’ve read like every book about him and his music is so comforting sometimes! Looks like you are having an awesome time exploring everything!
Heather
He’s pretty amazing. I love his music too!
