Good morning!
I’m a little late to the party today, so I’ll cut the introduction chatter short and get right to the good stuff.
I hope you all have a fantastic Friday, and also that you enjoy this week’s roundup of favorites. Don’t forget to link your Friday Favorites posts up at the bottom, too!
Friday Favorites #143: Week of 5/27
• IKEA storage bed
As soon as Scott and I decided that we were moving to New York, a storage bed was one of the first things on my radar. We are still in the process of piecing everything together, but this purchase has been the best one so far … by a landslide.
The first place I thought to look was IKEA, since it is basically the go-to for everything storage for small spaces. I found plenty of options online and in person, and we kept coming back to the MALM storage bed in black-brown.
You guys … it holds so much. I strategically placed all of our fall wardrobe in our suitcases, and used every square inch I could to find a home for things that we want in our apartment, but don’t necessarily need to get to every day.
Just like all IKEA furniture, the bed was a total pain to put together, but it was one hundred percent worth it. Our room is a lot closer to becoming organized, and I know a big part of me feeling calm about it is the bed!
• Mrs. Meyer’s dish soap (new scent?)
Longtime readers will recognize this logo right away. I’ve always had a thing for Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day , and this week I stumbled upon a new (to me?) scent and label called Lilac.
(The are more favorites when I run out of my Williams-Sonoma sets.)
I usually pick my scents by the seasons or whatever is on sale. For example, I’m always drawn to the Basil line around the holidays (maybe because it smells like trees?), and I opt for something flowery for the spring and summer. Apple or Rhubarb reminds me of fall!
You know you’re getting older when … you get excited about soap y’all. It’s fine.
• travel hair dryer
I have the Ultra CHI Low EMF hair dryer (, ), and have owned that or a PRO series and others for years and years. I love CHI hair dryers, so it really bummed me out when it stopped blowing hot air on my recent trip to Orlando.
I totally forgot about it when we got home, until I had a surprise last-minute interview in Manhattan and needed to get ready as soon as possible. Great timing to not have a functional hair dryer, right?
Luckily, Scott was around to walk down to CVS for me and pick up a travel hair dryer. I had been toying with the idea of getting one for traveling anyways, and I have been very pleased with how the dries my hair.
It’s super quick, and is great in the mean time while I figure out how to send my CHI dryer back and get a new one for $50 (I’ve heard you can do this … have any of you had luck here?)
I miss two things about my old dryer: the ability to control hot or cold air, and the attachments for straightening or curling. If I can’t get a new version of mine for $50, I might be keeping my eye out for any sales this weekend!
• Roadie at the dog beach
It’s no secret that Scott and I have both been loving Prospect Park. We feel very grateful to live in Park Slope, and even more grateful that this beautiful retreat is just about a half mile away!
You can usually catch my (almost) daily snaps at the park (Snapchat username: lifenleggings), and we have certainly been taking advantage of the dog-friendly areas.
Whenever we take Roadie for a run or long walk with us, we always make sure to pass by the dog “beach” to let him get a drink and cool off. He’s never been one to fully submerge by jumping in the water, but he loves getting in and going up to his chest to walk around. It’s so cute.
• Shakeology drinks
Okay, okay … friends. I finally caved towards one of the (many) requests I get to try Shakeology drinks. I’ve seen a huge buzz around them, as well as a strong push from anyone who is a Beachbody Coach, but I never really understood what was so special about them.
I always thought that Shakeology drinks were just Beachbody’s line of protein powders, but I’ve come to learn that there is much more to it than that.
Shakeology is a supplement that can help you lose weight, improve your digestion and regularity, increase your energy and stamina, and most importantly, reduce junk food cravings. Each serving comes packed with protein and amino acids, antioxidants and super-fruits, phytonutrients and super-greens, herbs, prebiotics and probiotics, and digestive enzymes.
Each packet costs $4, so the price may seem a little steep. The benefits of ensuring that you are getting more than enough servings of vegetables and nutrients, however, makes it worth it.
Per my friend Molly’s suggestion, I made one of her concoctions by blending 1 pack chocolate, 1 pack vanilla, almond milk, and ice for two servings after our run yesterday. (She actually suggests using coconut milk instead of almond for it to taste similar to a Mounds chocolate bar, but we were out!)
The shakes tasted fantastic, and I would have thought I was drinking a milkshake. I honestly didn’t taste anything supplemental about it. I was very surprised.
I still have the other packages to try out (including some vegan options!), so I’ll be sure to report back again with my thoughts. So far, Shakeology is a big win in my books.
(Thanks for sending them over my way, Molly!)

Ashley @ A Lady Goes West
Okay, I am seriously impressed with what you’ve done in that storage bed. We should have had a storage bed when we were in the City … instead we had to “display” our storage strategically throughout the apartment hehehe! Happy Friday, friend! 🙂

Thanks friend! You have to use every inch you’ve got around here. Oh don’t worry, we have plenty still “on display” 😉 Happy weekend!
kaitlin @4loveofcarrots
we just got that bed (minus the storage part) in the light wood color. Fun story actually my husband took apart our old bed and put our new bed together only to find out I have bought the wrong size so he had to take it all apart and put it together again the next day once we got the right size…. I am honestly surprised I’m still married haha!

NO – I can’t imagine how frustrating that would be. Putting it together once is bad enough! Haha, you’ve certainly got a trooper on your hands!
Susie @ SuzLyfe
That bed is LEGIT. We are really excited that our new apartment has a little storage locker with it. I honestly don’t know how I fit everything that I did in our last place. I really must have had mad skillz there, because we are overflowing with things in the new place! Have a great weekend, Heather!

Hi Ciara, welcome!! Thanks for linking up! Oh no, that sounds like the worst … I can’t take much credit though, Scott handled 95% of it! Good for you for toughing it out 😉
