This week has been a little different that most, considering Scott was home in Michigan for a grand total of twelve hours. He has been a busy little travel bee this season, and just embarked on another work trip this morning.
Not to worry though, as he will be back just in the nick ‘o time to celebrate one of our favorite holidays together Sunday afternoon – St. Patrick’s Day!
Scott and I love anything Irish. We incorporated a few Irish traditions into our wedding ceremony and enjoy dressing up in an obnoxious amount of green to celebrate St. Patty’s Day every year. This year, we are excited to check out a big St. Patty’s Day bash held in the Greektown district of Detroit.
Both of us have only been to downtown Detroit a handful of times, with our latest trip just about a week ago. Since it is on the way home, Scott and I have started a new tradition of stopping by Detroit and eating at a new restaurant every time I pick him up from the airport.
Mexican Village Restaurant
Sunday will be going to Greektown, and last night’s pick was in the Mexican Village! After rerouting a few times and driving through some seriously questionable parts of the city, we finally found the first restaurant to pop up in Mexicantown called Mexican Village Restaurant.
Once inside, I thought the restaurant was great. I can always tell when a place is truly authentic, run by people who are actually part of the culture.
Per usual, we started with a classic chips and salsa appetizer. They provided both regular and hot versions.
How cute are these festive shamrock tortilla chips?
Green and good!
Before we could ask for a refill on the chips, both of our meals were out in record time. I ordered the chicken fajitas and my tummy got excited before the sizzling meat even came out.
There is is!
Check out that melted cheese on top of the sauteed peppers, tomatoes, and onions. It was ohhh so yummy, and I had quite a bit left over to take home with me. You better believe I am about to dig into it for lunch very shortly!
Fun Food for St. Patrick’s Day
With St. Patrick’s Day quickly approaching, I thought it would be fun to share a few of my latest Pinterest finds I recently added to my Holidays Board. Don’t you just wish you had an infinite amount of time, supplies, and energy to create everything you see on Pinterest around holidays? I do.
The first thing I stumbled upon this morning was a recipe to make adorable green shamrock tortilla chips of your own. The rest look relatively simple (and healthy!), and I had to throw a few heartier Irish meals at the end for those of you who have husbands who pine for the beef, like mine does.
Enjoy!

Even if I am the only one here to eat it, I am seriously thinking about trying out the stew and the key lime yogurt pie. Both look delicious!
Friday Funny
Before I sign off, I have to end with a {Friday Funny} video for you. I am sure most of you have already seen it by now, but that does not make it any less amazing.
Justin Timberlake + Saturday Night Live + this classic skit (there have been a few other versions) + the Harlem Shake + Vegan Love = ultimate win!!!
I have probably watched this about ten times in the last two days and still can’t get enough of it. Shout out to the vegans and vegetarians out there!
Justin Timberlake – Bring It On Down 2… by IdolxMuzic
Worth pointing out in case you missed it…
• His dramatic foot taps to turn on the music
• Saur-sage. Vegetarian “jer-nt”. Do-yrt.
• His double pirouette turn
• “I wish I had some glow sticks” followed by a slow-motion matrix move
• Tofu Burritas!
Have a Happy (and safe) St. Patrick’s Day Weekend everyone! 🙂
