Hi friends! I hope you have had a great start to the week.
I’m coming to you from New Jersey today. The last few days have been a great mixture of fun and relaxing. I really can’t complain at all!
This is my last week of being on my own schedule for a while (exciting updates on the job front coming soon!), so we wanted to take advantage of it and spend some quality time together and with friends. Late last week, we decided to rent a car and get out of the City for a few days. It’s been great to unwind and enjoy the open road again.
Scott has actually been working in Philadelphia to help produce a video with a friend, so Roadie and I tagged along for the trip, and we have been staying with friends in New Jersey.
We know Darnell from working for the Orlando Magic together, and we had a blast when he and his girlfriend, Lindsey, came to visit us in Detroit. Since their visit, they acquired a new (furry) family member that Roadie was really looking forward to meeting.
Jordan is a pitbull/hound mix that you’d think has been in his life for years. They instantly bonded the minute they met and have been completely inseparable ever since!
Puppy love is the cutest.
Scott and I arrived in Mount Laurel, New Jersey late Sunday afternoon, and we are planning to drive back to New York tonight. Right now, Scott and Darnell are at the video set and I am catching up on some work on the computer while Lindsey is at work. It’s just me and the pups for a few hours, and that’s okay with me!
I was able to spend the day with Lindsey while the guys were working yesterday, and I was so happy that the weather turned out to be perfect for a trip to the beach. (I’m notorious for bringing bad weather clouds with me any time we travel or plan a beach day.)
We took our time lounging at home and finally made our way to the Jersey Shore around lunch time. We chose to spend the day at Belmar Beach, a newly renovated and extremely clean spot to take in the sun and waves.
It costs $8 (per person) for a beach badge, which grants you access to the beach all day long, and there are plenty of restrooms and places to eat along the boardwalk. I loved it!
Unfortunately, that was the only photo we took together (even with the boys) throughout our trip! Maybe I should aim to be more proactive next time in the photography department.
After a long but glorious afternoon on the beach, we packed up and drove home to clean up for dinner. We had been talking about grabbing margaritas and guacamole all day long! We were still waiting on the guys to return from the Delaware/Philly area, so we decided on Chili’s since it had been ages since my last visit.
I used to frequent the restaurant on a regular basis in college, and I’ll never turn down a dinner that comes with endless amounts of chips and salsa. (Who’s with me?) We took advantage of the 2 for $22 dinner special, and the blueberry pineapple margarita I ordered on the side was delicious. It was also the size of my head.
I have to note, however, that the table side guacamole was a bit disappointing. I’m usually a big fan, but this batch seemed to be missing something … salt maybe?
I ordered the Grilled Chicken Salad off of the Lighter Choices Menu, and I put a good amount of salsa and guacamole on top for extra flavor. It was great!
The guys ended up catching up with us by the end, and we headed home shortly after.
Even though the four of us haven’t been able to spend much time together, it’s been an enjoyable couple of days in New Jersey. We hope to plan another trip back down soon, and I know the fur kids will be highly anticipating more time together!

- Thursday – REST
- Friday – 4.5 mile run/walk with Roadie
- Saturday – REST
- Sunday – 55 min. Pure Barre class
Thoughts …
I loved this week of workouts. In an ideal world, I would always be able to take my cardio outside with runs through the park (I’m not assuming that I won’t get out as much during the winter months), try a few new strength training workouts/classes, and finish the week off with a good burn and stretch in barre class.
I’ve been loving my ClassPass membership, and will be back to share more studio and gym reviews soon.
Thanks for checking in!

Questions of the Day
• What type of workout have you been loving lately?
• Is the weather starting to cool of in your neck of the woods?
It’s been H-O-T in New York lately, so the breeze and cooler temps at night have been great. I really can’t wait for the fall. It’s my very favorite time of the year!

Stoked to hear a work update – did the 5 interviews job finally seal the deal?! I’ll keep posted 😉 And yes, Philly has had a couple days this week where the mornings have felt breezy just like the fall (you were clsoe by so you probably experienced the same!), but the forecasters are predicting another scorcher this weekend, whomp. Bring on the fall!

That’s too funny! It was our first time visiting the area, but I’m sure we will be back. Roadie misses his girlfriend, Jordan!

Hi, what do you think about Pokemon GO as a way to promote a healthy lifestyle? It’s gotten a lot of kids (and adults!) off the couch, which is a really good start. But, could we turn something like that into a frequent activity that goes beyond a walk around the block? You think something like Pokemon GO, where you go, stop, go and stop all the time be molded into some kind of interval training routine?
