Summer is in full swing, ya’ll. The days are getting hotter and activities aren’t slowing down, so it’s important to prepare and grab quick and healthy snacks you can enjoy at home or on-the-go.
If you’re going to be out and about all day, take this summer red, white and blue almond mix with you!
I have been turning to almonds and trail mixes using almonds ever since I started dancing in the NBA seven years ago.
Alone or along with your favorite mix pairings, even just a handful of almonds (about 23 nuts or 1 ounce) provides a considerable amount of protein, finer, (good) fat, vitamin E, calcium and other good-for-you minerals. Blue Diamond does a great job of explaining the health benefits of their almonds and you can read more about it on their website.
This trail mix combo was inspired by a delivery that included two exciting and somewhat new flavors of almonds to experiment with.
With the 4th of July quickly approaching this weekend, I thought it would be fun to play off the colors and create a patriotic themed trail mix.
Summer Red, White + Blue Almond Mix
Ingredients
6 oz. can of Toasted Coconut Blue Diamond Almonds
4 oz. bag of Blueberry Blue Diamond Almonds
1 cup shredded organic coconut flakes
1 cup dried whole strawberries
If you aren’t a huge fan of coconut flakes, you might want to use 1/2- 3/4 cup instead one whole cup. I just happen to love them!
Also, if you can’t find strawberries, you could substitute dried cherries or cranberries. Check out the Blue Diamond store locator to find these exact flavors of almonds near you.
Directions
Couldn’t be easier…
Throw all ingredients into a bowl and mix together. Package in glass jars, Tupperware, or plastic bags to enjoy at home or during your busy day out.
Between holidays, summer barbeques and travels, it can be extremely challenging to keep snacks on the healthier side. Do yourself a favor and take just a minute or two to prepare something satisfying and substantial to take with you on your adventures!
Want extra bonus points? Bring enough to share with friends.
Now excuse me while I go rummage through the mix I’m trying to pretend I don’t know about in the kitchen. Enjoy!
Question of the Morning
• What is your favorite way to enjoy almonds?
Besides being the all important ingredient in my homemade trail mixes, I love slicing almonds (roasting them when I’m up for it) and topping my oatmeal, salads, and smoothies with them!

Yum! And so pretty too! I reallllly need to grab some of those blueberry almonds! I keep seeing them all over the place. They sound so good!
Thanks girl… and you’d be surprised where I randomly run into them. Every time I see them pop up in a gas station I grab a few packets!
I made trail mix with mine, too!! I am loving the combination that you came up with! I’ll have to try the dried strawberries and coconut flakes next time!
I saw that and made a mental note to click over and see yours! Ahhhh love the chocolate addition. So yummy!
I want to try blueberry almonds so badly!
They’re pretty easy to find! Check out the locator I mentioned in the post, or even your local gas stations. You’d be surprised!
Oh those blueberry almonds I have been seeing everywhere, now if I could just remember to pick them up when I go to the store! I love using almonds as a snack when I get a rumbling tummy nothing is better than a handful of those things!
Definitely a staple to have around the house!
Thanks for sharing! I think my husband would love this!
Woo hoo!
