Hello! I am coming to you from the gym this afternoon and am done with work for the day. I just finished my own workout too, which I’ll be sure to share more about later this week.
I have a break before I need to get to the grocery store and then home, so I figured I’d pop in with a lighthearted post today. I don’t know where it came from, but I have been thinking about childhood memories all day. I hope this post brings you a chuckle!
For whatever reason, I started thinking about certain things, games, or even shows I became attached to while growing up that will never get old to me. I can’t be the only one that holds onto things like this!
Just for fun, let’s talk about objects from our childhood that will never get old. Ready?
Things From Childhood That Will Never Get Old
• popsicles & slurpees
Someone brought two boxes of popsicles to our bible study last week, and you would have thought she was handing out money. We all got so excited, especially when we saw the bomb pops! I loved popsicles as a child and still buy them from time to time. I don’t think that will ever change!
Don’t even get me started on slurpees, either. I would be lying if I said I didn’t have at least one a week. It’s ridiculous.
• coloring
There’s something about coloring that is really therapeutic for me. Whether it’s with crayons, markers, or colored pencils, I always forget how much I love to color until the opportunity arises.
(Even if it’s at Macaroni Grill as an adult. Whoops.)
You better believe our kids will have a wide variety of coloring books available! (<- quite possibly for me too…)
• dressing up like superheroes
My friend Christine sent this picture to me today.
A group of us girls are going up north to attend a retreat this weekend, so we wanted to theme out our cabin’s pajama night. Clearly, team superheroes seems like the best option.
• legos
I saw legos on Erin’s blog earlier this week, and it instantly made me want to go build something. Ahhh, weren’t legos the best?
My sister and I were obsessed. We played so much that my dad eventually built a lego table that was basically a short coffee table lined with green lego bases with a hammock holding a container of legos underneath. Everyone wanted to play with legos any time they came over! Gosh, I miss them.
• throwback cartoons and television shows
I’ll admit that I watched Rugrats, Hey Arnold, Doug, and Sponge Bob along with a variety of sitcoms longer that I probably should have. Any time I happen to catch an old re-run of one of those shows, I can’t help but to tune in. Okay, maybe not the cartoons, but the television shows for sure!
My favorite was TGIF on ABC or SNICK on Nickelodeon with the line up of shows like Clarissa Explains It All, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Step By Step, Full House, Family Matters, and Are You Afraid of the Dark?
• board games
As a child, I loved playing board games any time I was with a large group of people. Chutes & Ladders, Monopoly, Scrabble, Clue, Sorry, you name it – we played. I am really looking forward to the day Scott and I have a family game night of our own and whip out the board games.
• Disney movies
While we’re on the subject, I could seriously watch any classic Disney cartoon at any given time. 101 Dalmations, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Cinderella, Pocahontus, they’re all so great!
I used to babysit in college and loved nights we curled up on the couch with a good ‘ol Disney movie. I’d still do that for free. Suckers.
• slap bracelets
I’m not saying I will be sporting one any time soon, but really… how great were slap bracelets? I don’t get to come into contact with them often, but when I do… it’s way more entertaining than it should be.
• Boy band hits & ballads
I’m sorry, but they just won’t ever get old. If I’m ever in a bad mood, all I have to do is turn to an old N*SYNC, Backstreet Boys, New Kids on the Block, or 98° album to cheer me up.
These days, you can revisit those days even easier with online streaming through Spotify. If you’re online, go on and rock out here, here, and here. It’s like instant happy juice.
• blankets
Call be a baby, but I am always surrounded by blankets at home. I’m completely fine without them, but if I am at home on our couch, it’s blanket time any time I’m not on my feet.
That’s how it’s always been and that’s how it will always be!
***
Well kids, it’s been fun strolling down memory lane with you, but I’ve got to get going. I’ll see you back on the blog with actual content tomorrow morning. 😉
Have a great night!
Questions of the Afternoon
• What is one thing from your childhood that will never get old?
• What was your all-time favorite movie or television show growing up?
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul
Ahh I’m so nostalgic for the 90’s now!! They were good times! 😀
Heather
I’m so glad I had a chance to grow up a true 90s baby. I dabbled in the 80s, but the 90s really stole my heart!
Sarah @ Sarah Sincerely
What a fun post!!! I was smiling and nodding my head at just about every point. Ah…the 90’s. Would you believe that my 3rd graders (I’m a teacher) are still obsessed with Legos and love Full House. I brought in slap bracelets one day for my “treasure box” and they thought they were the coolest…made me laugh. They had no clue they are a thing of the past.
Heather
I actually went back to school (for my masters, actually!) for elementary education. I’m pretty sure this is why. 😉 A trip to the treasure chest in the classroom was the best prize ever!
Strength and Sunshine
Legos and board games! Yes! My brother and I would make up whole stories when both! When we played Life, haha, we would use it as a whole imaginary world! So fun!
Heather
So funny! I definitely got way too into board games. I actually used to think my life would turn out like my life in the game. So great.
Brit
I loved this post! Now that summer weather is starting to hit where I live, you better believe I’ll be making slurpee runs. My absolute favourite movie growing up was The Swiss Family Robinson, which I think was made back in the 1960s, but I would always get my dad to rent it from the video store (another thing of the past) and I would watch it multiple times in an afternoon.
As for adult colouring, have you seen this? One of my friends has a copy and she loves it!

Heather
Oh my, that book looks awesome! I might need to order it to take on plane rides or enjoy at home while lounging on the couch. And video stores! RIP, Blockbuster… ;( Thanks for sharing!
hmtroupe
Oh my gosh, I loved and watched all those shows! Love the 90’s nostalgia!
Heather
90s children through and through! 😉
Katie @ Live Half Full
I can’t wait for Fuller House it’s going to be the best throwback ever!
Heather
It needs to get her already! C’monnn Netflix!

Man, you did bring up some great childhood memories back for me, too! As for my favorite childhood TV shows: Spongebob (still love it!), Hey Arnold!, Rugrats, All That, Family Matters. Disney movies I will also never get tired of. My first Disney movie I ever saw in theaters (and first movie I saw in theaters EVER) was Pocahontas. What about Lisa Frank?! I was all about those brightly colored accessories and artsy crafty things
Heather
That’s so funny! I wish I could remember my very first movie in theaters. It was most likely a Disney cartoon! Ahhh, how did I forget Lisa Frank? I was ALL over that line!
texasbelle9
1) This IS absolutely content as far as I’m concerned and I enjoyed reading through it all. 2) I love Disney, any time, any day. And what’s even better, my guy will watch it with me whenever I want, too! He recently saw Finding Nemo for the first time and loved it! haha 3) Nothing beats an orange push-up pop. 4) I wonder what kinda controversy you started by showing an image of NSYNC and not the other boy bands. (I’m JT and NSYNC all the way, for the record. Except also NKOTB sometimes. And sometimes Backstreet boys.) 😉
Heather
Oh, he sounds like a keeper! I love finding Nemo, and orange push-pops… YES!! <3
markmymiles
I love all of these and remember loving all of these as a kid too : )
Heather
90s and 80s throwbacks in any way, shape, or form will never get old to me!
markmymiles
Me neither. I ran an “80”s theme” run in San Diego a few years ago and it was a blast. I also love watching reruns of my favorite sitcoms from back then, a refreshing break from today’s reality shows.
chasetheredgrape
Love this post! Made me smile as I remember so much from my own childhood!
Disney movies will never get old for me, I get so much comfort from watching them. And I could still watch re runs of rugrats, Sabrina and many other UK TV shows that I’m sure you won’t know of!
And anytime I hear MMBOP on the radio I will always feel like a kid again! Haha!
Heather
MMMBop! Haha, that’s a serious classic. I’m pretty sure I had a crush on all three of those brothers at one point or another!
Chelsea @ Raw N' Toned
Board games, the tv shows, and blankets are definitely my favorites! And a random fact, I too have blankets with me almost everywhere I go in the house haha
Heather
YES! Blankets for everyone. I automatically get them out for guests and always wonder if they think I’m a weirdo! 😉
Kerry @ Half Healthy, Half Nuts
I am currently listening to your 90’s/2000’s playlist on Spotify. OMG! The playlist just went from “C’mon Ride It (Tthe Train)” by Quad City DJs to Savage Garden’s “Truly Madly Deeply” – love it!!! 90’s music never gets old and always makes me happy!
Heather
YES! I’m glad you appreciate the tunes too. After hearing you talk about those songs, I had to put it on for myself. Love, love, love throwbacks!
ranchcookie
We used to play hide n go seek throughout the back of our houses as a neighborhood! I will always remember hiding up in a tree, always climbing those days!
Heather
Oh my gosh, hide n seek. What about man hunt?! Did you ever play that with neighborhood kids? So fun!
ranchcookie
No I don’t think so haha but it was probably something similar just called something different!
