I feel like it’s been a little while since I have been able to sit down and chat here. This week has been extra busy, and fighting off a cold since Sunday has really put a damper on my motivation to blog at night after long days of working and being out and about. I’ve missed you guys!
Today I thought I’d break things up with a fun survey I saw pop up on Tina’s blog a few months ago. I’d love to hear your answers to some of the questions, too.
Feel free to play along and comment with some your preferences below!
Chocolate or Vanilla?
While I often indulge in both, chocolate will always be my jam.
(Oh my gosh, this dark chocolate bark recipe. Amazing!)
In fact, I have a glass of dark chocolate almond milk or handful of chocolate chips every single night before bed. It’s great for satisfying an unruly sweet tooth!
Innie or Outtie?
I have an innie, but I’m oddly intrigued by the possibility of having an outtie if we ever get pregnant. Does is just pop right back in like nothing happened? Is it weird that I’ve thought about this?
Hot, Hot Summer or Snowy Winter?
I’m all for experiencing the seasons, but I think we moved to Michigan at the wrong time.
We are coming up on our fourth winter in The Mitten, and the last two years have literally broken records in both cold temperatures and snowfall. It’s been fun to learn how to ski and sled (even where we’re not supposed to), but I sure do miss the warmth and sunshine I grew up with.
That said, and as a native Floridian, I will always be able to tolerate hot, hot summers over snowy winters.
Save or Spend?
We’re somewhere in the middle. We’ve been great at saving in the past, then life happens. Like losing a job… twice, haha. For the most part, we like to pay our bills off as early as possible and have a good cushion left for savings. Anything after that usually goes towards treating ourselves to dining out, traveling, and buying things we work hard for. You only live once, right?
Elliptical or Treadmill?
There are days where I turn to the elliptical over the treadmill, but it’s only on days I just don’t feel like running. I’m part of the rare bread that actually likes the treadmill. I know, I’m a weirdo!
Truth is, I wish we had one at home! Back when I had a gym membership, I would take a group fitness class or complete a strength training circuit and then my favorite part of the workout would always be a quick 2 or 3 mile interval something-or-other on the treadmill afterwards. It’s a great way to really ensure you get your blood pumping.
(Check out my Cardio Page for some of my favorite treadmill and elliptical workouts!)
Banana or Apple?
Apples!
But I never knew how much I loved them until Scott entered my life. He’s obsessed with them and will even ask for a sliced apple for dinner at times. Of course I intervene, but I could definitely eat an apple a day.
Hey, isn’t there a saying about that? 😉
Morning or Night?
In the past, I’ve been a bit of a night owl. These days, I’ve been enjoying getting up earlier in the mornings, which causes me to want to turn in earlier the night before. On the occasions we are out celebrating something special or traveling, we instantly become night owls. But, on a day-to-day basis we have become a lot better at putting ourselves to bed at a decent hour in order to be productive the next morning. It’s a beautiful thing!
Plus, there’s nothing like catching an early morning sunrise. *Sigh*
Love or Money?
Love.
Obviously.
Lip Balm or Lipstick?
It depends. For every day? Lip Balm. For a fun night out? Lipstick.
Living in colder climates? Always lip balm, sometimes layered with lipstick.
I’ve been loving as a middle ground lately.
Butt or Boobs?
This is a weird question… so I’m going to relate it to working out. I’ll always prefer a good set of lunges or squats over push-ups.
Alone or with others?
Believe it or not, I am completely content at home by myself. I love curling up on the couch with the fur kids and enjoying some me time.
I do, however, crave social interaction with others. After strictly working at home for a few years, I really enjoy the balance I have now between working at the gym part-time, working at the nursery, and at home.
Coffee or Tea?
I think you all know my answer to this one by now…
Coffee! I do enjoy a green, chai, or herbal tea from time to time, but coffee is my first and forever love.
Straight or Curly?
I was born with natural curly hair, so of course my answer is straight. Don’t we always want what we don’t have?
I rarely let my hair dry naturally if it’s not going up in bun. I always have to blow dry and straighten it or let it air dry or use a diffuser before hitting it with a curling wand to look somewhat manageable. It blows my mind when people can just hop out of the shower and then out door with wet hair that dries into something beautiful every day. Where did you come from?
Three Squares or Graze All Day?
I’m usually a huge snacker. My appetite, however, has actually slowed down on the late, so I have been less snack-y and more meal oriented. If I don’t prep snacks for a long work day, I’m usually ready to eat a limb when I get home.
So, yeah, I’d say I prefer to be a graze all day kind of gal!
(You can always see what a “normal” day of eating looks like for by browsing the WIAW category.)
Right-handed or left-handed?
Right! But both my brother and dad are left handed. I think that’s pretty cool and have always wondered what makes someone right or left-hand dominant.
Beach or Mountains?
Beach! Although waking up to views like this is pretty memorizing.
I think it just all goes back to the hot or cold question… always hot for me!
Mac or PC?
I’m an Apple girl, which turned me onto Macs long ago.
They seem scary to PC users, but they’re really not at all. I’ve been blogging and working on Macs since I graduated college in 2007, and I always feel like an idiot when I try to use a PC. (Where is the command key?! Ha.)
Shy or Outgoing?
I’m pretty outgoing in a social setting, but I guess it all depends on my mood. There are definitely days where I play the observer role and take everything in. Scott, on the other hand, will make a friend with a tree. It’s crazy to watch sometimes!
Now it’s your turn!
Chocolate or vanilla?
Hot, hot, summer or snowy winter?
Morning or night person?
Mac or PC?
Have a great Thursday, and I’ll see you tomorrow with this week’s Friday Favorites link up!

Chocolate, hot hot HOT summer, morning, mac.
Happy almost Friday!

Thanks Emily, Happy (almost) weekend to you!
I am most definitely a morning person! I went through a long mac phase in college and after, but through the years my macs died and I never replaced it. Now I have a work-issued PC laptop. I do miss macs, though, they’re so much more reliable and easier to use.

I agree! You know what they say… once you go Mac… 😉
Definitely chocolate and I love macs, but I use windows just as frequently 🙂
And my belly button never became an outtie when I was pregnant but it did become flat and then returned to its original innieness (made up) after pregnancy.

So intriguing! Thanks so much for sharing 🙂
I’ve been thinking about doing a good survey as it’s been awhile. This one is fun! I’m definitely a chocolate over vanilla girl and morning person all the way! Been up since 5:15 🙂
Chocolate or vanilla? – Chocolate no questions asked!
Hot, hot, summer or snowy winter? – I would take summer any day, Winter is too cold.
Morning or night person? – Depends on the day but lately I’d say Morning.
Mac or PC? – I prefer mac but use a pc at work.

I wholeheartedly agree! Thanks for sharing Kristin!
CHOCOLATE always! (And apples!, I can’t stomach a whole banana, I only like the flavor in baked goods 😉 )
Summer always!
Coffee of course!
And I’m so against Macs! Haha! PC for life!

I like bananas too, but they just don’t compare to apples. Oh man, have you given them a fair try? 😉
Chocolate or vanilla? Chocolate! ! ! (easy)
Hot, hot, summer or snowy winter? Summer for sure, but here in So Oregon we do get winter so it’s best to just embrace it when it’s here…
Morning or night person? Morning!
Mac or PC? PC!! I am a I.T Support Tech for a PC company in Oregon. I remember using Apples back in school but have always been a windows boy at heart.
Thanks Heather
Oh man, I remember working on Apples in elementary school. And the Oregon Trail computer game 😉 Thanks for reading!
I really like the treadmill too! It helps me zone out and just focus on moving my legs. I am able to think through situations better when I am not on the road. I go on runs on the treadmill when I have a lot on my mind, whereas I run outside when I need scenery to look at.
Love this survey and reading your answers, Heather!
Chocolate for me!
Hot, hot, hot summer! It’s really chilly in San Diego right now, and I’m quickly realizing how much of a wimp I am.
Morning.
Since my Mac just died, I’m going to go with PC.
Have a great rest of your Thursday! 🙂
Oh no, I’m sorry to hear your Mac died. That’s the worst! Thanks so much for reading and sharing!
Totally miss my mac and my iphone. TAKE ME BACK. But now I don’t know how to go back? Is it too late for me?? Plus, i can’t really afford one.
I am like you–I love both the vanilla and the chocolate. I used to be all chocolate, all the time, but my husband has turned me back to the lighter side, especially if there is a textural element.
I’m definitely a morning person. Well, I’m an early riser, but not necessarily a morning person. i function, but I don’t want to speak! And at night…. well…. you know I’m grandma status over here!

They are definitely more expensive, but worth it in my opinion. 😉 ALL the chocolate, haha. And don’t get me wrong I like vanilla, too. I wish I could turn in as early as you! 😉
Colds are the worst! I got one Sunday as well and my flights back home on monday were miserable. Working while you have a cold seems so hard to do since your body is so tired! I feel for ya!
For the survey I would have to go with vanilla (love the classic), hot hot summer (not wanting the MN winter weather yet), morning person (nothing better than a hot drink, warm blanket, and some tv on weekend mornings).
I’m sorry to hear that… colds are just awful. Thanks for sharing Taylor!
Loved reading a bit more about you!
Chocolate!
Hot, hot, summer!
Night!
Mac!

Thanks for reading Alexandra!
Hmm I’d love to be a morning person.. But I’ve been working afternoons and evenings my whole adult life! So even though I wake up ‘early’ for me considering when I get home.. I don’t think it quite counts. I try to be up by 8 most days, and often get home from work between 9pm-12am. Pretty good 🙂
I’m a Canadian girl and though I’m always craaaaaving hot weather.. when real heat waves hit I have to admit I can’t stand it. I don’t even have working A/C in my car LOL. Hair and makeup are always a mess, clothes with sweat marks. SO since you said snowy and not COLD, I’d say some snow isn’t so bad, and I’d take the winter anyday 😉
Vanilla and Mac all the way 🙂
It sounds like you’re a rockstar! And, give me all the heat waves, lol. Ever since we moved up to Michigan, I vowed never to complain about the heat again!
I think it’s the other way around… PCs are scary to mac people. They often don’t know how to use them. I’ve used both and I feel like I get way more bang for my buck with PCs- you just have to know what you’re doing.
Meagan Leanne recently posted…Week in Pictures
I can use a PC, but I just feel more comfortable on a Mac! It’s so funny what we get used to.
Haha! Your innie vs. outie question cracked me up because I’ve always wondered the same thing. Though I do not plan on ever getting pregnant (it’s just not my thing, I might want to adopt) I’ve been intrigued about the belly button situation.
I’m a vanilla girl through and through, but I LOVE dark chocolate. And if you give me a sweet and salty combination like salted dark chocolate covered pretzels? I’ll love you forever.
Kaylin@EnticingHealthyEating recently posted…Skillet Venison Ham Steaks
Dark chocolate is where it’s at! Throw it on pretzels and YES! Me too.
After living in Ohio my whole life I am so excited to experience a winter in Georgia! I am without a doubt a hot summer person, I don’t know how I made it this long living in Ohio!
Hilary recently posted…November Goals
I’m so jealous! You’re living in Atlanta, right? You’ll love the winter there!
Chocolate or vanilla? – definitely chocolate… Unless it’s ice cream then it’s always vanilla!
Hot, hot, summer or snowy winter? – we have just moved from Scotland to Australia… So I will find out in the next few months whether or not I can actually cope with a hot summer!
Morning or night person? – morning, I get up for CrossFit at 5am and am always raring to go!
Mac or PC? PC – never even been on a Mac! :-O
Jen @ Chase the Red Grape recently posted…Chase the Red Grape – The next chapter!
Both Scotland and Australia sound so fun! Good for you for making that early am workout!
Chocolate! I’m definitely a morning person. At sleepovers, I was always the first to fall asleep because I just cannot stay up late. :p I’m so glad I’m not the only one who can’t just hop out of the shower and have perfect hair. Mine is wavy/curly and I have to go through the same process as you – blow dry and curl or straighten. I don’t understand how people have naturally great looking hair! Not fair. :p
Haha! It’s not strange at all. I was totally petrified of getting an outtie when the time came! Thankfully, it stopped at a ‘flattie’ haha! Even at that I couldn’t help but think that I’d never seen so much of my belly button before. It went back to normal right after birth 🙂 Unfortunately, it takes much longer for linea negra to fade away! But then having the baby totally makes up for that 😀 xoxo

Even though I’m a Michigan native, I much prefer hot over cold.
And definitely Mac. I feel dumb when I have to use a PC, too!
