Hi friends! Good morning!
I’ve only got a couple of minutes to chat, so let’s get right to some weekend highlights.
Friday started early with a 7 a.m. class I taught at the gym. Every class at our gym involves a personal trainer leading clients through a workout, so when people ask me what the classes are, I say weight training, circuit training, or HIIT on crack. That’s basically sums it all up.
Around 8:30, I came home and let Roadie out. It was zero degrees outside. No big deal.
I feel so bad about his little paws in the snow when it’s that cold. He refuses to wear snow shoes or booties, so he usually resorts to jumping and rotating his feet to only hold them on the ground for a couple of seconds.
It’s both funny and sad to watch. I also can’t find his winter coat, so I have been feeling extra bad letting him out lately. I’ve been working on getting him a new one, but surprisingly enough, it’s really challenging to find one that fits him properly. He has a big body frame and short legs, so the best I can usually find in his size usually has hearts or something sparkly on it. No dice.
I spent the morning on the computer and went back to the gym around lunch time to repeat the class I taught earlier that day for myself. It was the “HIIT on crack” class that involved equipment like a jam ball, box, kettle bell, bosu ball, and ring.
I steer away from sharing workouts that involve this much equipment on the blog. I figure that the majority of you guys don’t have access to all of this stuff, but please tell me if I’m wrong. I’d love to expand the library and get more creative with the workouts I post!
It was a quick and sweaty workout that had me huffing, puffing, and sore in just under thirty minutes!
I stuck around the gym for a little bit and then treated myself to a nutritious lunch at Tropical Smoothie on the way home. Have you seen the new Avocolada smoothie?
It’s made with avocado, kale, pineapple, spinach, coconut, and lime, and tastes just as good as it sounds. I must have had a subconscious thing for avocado that morning, because I got their smoothie and a half lunch by adding a half of their turkey guacamole sandwich. That was good, but I’ll most likely order a hot sandwich next time.
I went to a Pistons game later than night and it was an exciting one! The Pistons played the New York Knicks, and we went into double OT! Unfortunately, we didn’t come out with a win, but it was a very entertaining game to watch, nonetheless.
Sean Kingston performed at halftime, so that was also fun to see. I might have been jamming out to his songs in my seat.
After the game, Scott and I met a friend up at Bar Louie for dinner. He’s always ready to face plant into any type of food after games, so we almost always go out to dinner. It’s a late night routine I’ve just gotten used to.
I have only tried a handful of things at Bar Louie because I can’t tear myself away from the Chop Chop salad. It’s so good!
I usually have enough for lunch the next day because I fill up on appetizers for the table like tots (yum) and avocado fries. Yup. I most definitely had more after my avocado themed lunch. I’ll probably turn green soon.
Saturday consisted of normal weekend things… like finding Roadie curled up in the laundry basket again.
… and people wonder how we consistently (and involuntarily) accessorize in pet hair. There it is, folks.
I swear, Roadie thinks he’s a cat! He is surrounded by two of them and constantly gets cuddled by us, so I guess I can’t really blame him. He’s the best.
Scott and I felt zero guilt about sleeping in well past any alarms, then treated ourselves to breakfast at Tim Hortons once we were up and moving.
(While putting this post together, I realized how much I ate out this weekend. Whoops.)
It proved to be worth the trip, because I found a new health(ier) breakfast option to satisfy my breakfast cravings!
I forget what it’s called now, but an egg white sandwich with turkey sausage, spinach, and cheese on an English muffin is one of their new menu items. It was good and came with a side and coffee for a reasonable price. I chose the Greek yogurt parfait (um… awesome side choice!) and that did the job of keeping me full well into the afternoon.
Scott and I left for the airport mid-afternoon, and I spent the rest of my day running errands. I even got a car wash, which is rare around our neck of the woods this time of year.
Scott is currently in sunny California for a work trip, and extended his stay an extra day to enjoy Napa Valley today with some friends. I was going to go with him, but then I realized sitting at home by myself was a lot more fun.
I’m kidding. The flights out to California aren’t any form of cheap! Maybe next time…
Sunday came quick and started with a late church service with my friend Stephanie. I hadn’t seen her in quite some time, so we made plans to grab brunch afterwards. I just love those types of Sundays.
I suggested we drive over to Birmingham, since she hadn’t been to one of my favorite brunch spots in the area, Social.
If you ever get to experience this restaurant, don’t order their fresh sangria or mimosas.
They’re horrible… and by horrible, I mean amazing.
By the time we sat down (it was packed with a 45-minute wait!), I wanted coffee. Mmmm.
And, in true Social fashion, I predictably ordered a build-your-own skillet. I’ve been there three times now and can’t get away from it. It just keeps getting better every time I go!
Hash browns, spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms, egg whites, chicken, bacon, American cheese, avocado (ha!), and cilantro topped in roasted tomato salsa.
We rounded out our afternoon in Birmingham with a trip to Sanders. That’s always a good idea.
We split this ginormous mint chocolate chip ice cream and may have also ordered a handful of peppermint chocolates on the side. I’m so glad someone else appreciates my obsession with anything and everything chocolate mint.
I spent the rest of my day floating around and helping out a friend. It was a great little solo weekend!

Chocolate mint – yes! I took a Pure Barre class yesterday for the first time in forever.. So sore today!! Love it. I have never ordered food at Bar Louie before.. I need to try this salad, yum! Sean Kingston… Wow, I would have been so excited for that!! I was obsessed with him in college. Have a great Monday!
Heather
Love barre classes! GOSH I miss them. You would like Bar Louie food! They have great burgers, including turkey that you can load up and get for a steal on Tuesdays!
fitsickle
Oh awesome, thanks for the word!!

Haha dog in a laundry basket- total cat move. I definitely need to check out that smoothie from TS! I usually only like their limited edition ones for some reason. Then just when I hear about them, they stop carrying it…
Heather
You should! Ha, yes, you’re probably right about that. They’re seasonal stuff doesn’t last very long!
Chrissy @ Pink Polish and Running Shoes
Chocolate and mint? Heck yes! One of the best flavor combos ever.
Heather
Agreed! Always my favorite, quickly followed by some kind of Moose Tracks or Cookies ‘n Cream.
brynn
Mint chocolate chip is my favorite ice cream! I went to Commonwealth for brunch on Sunday!
Heather
In Birmingham?? Wow, I’ve never been there! I’ll definitely have to check that out!
Carrie (This Fit Chick)
Chocolate mint is a YES! What a fun avocado filled weekend, hah!
Heather
Haha, it reminds me of that Subway commercial about avocados… 😉 http://www.ispot.tv/ad/7nbo/subway-turkey-and-bacon-avocado-avocado-love

I’m so jealous you have a Tim hortons! I love that place so much but there’s none around me. There’s a few near my SO’s grandparents’ so everytime we stop by I always get a double double 🙂
This weekend I went bowling and we had the lanes all to ourselves! It was so much fun. I also went out for brunch and got corned beef hash and it was AMAZING.
I can not stand mint chocolate and always have! My dad always got it growing up and the green color freaked me out. I haven’t tried it in a while so maybe I should give it another try!
Heather
That sounds like a blast! Gosh, I haven’t been bowling in forever. It’s always a good time when I do! Haha, oh man… sorry to hear about your mint chocolate phobia. Hopefully you’ll eventually grow out of it 😉
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West
You should have come to California! It would have been worth the price of airfare. Maybe next time? 🙂
Heather
Ahhh, girl, I know…. believe me. I know. #fullofregrets
Midwest Darling
Social looks great! I’ll have to try it out next time I’m down that way 🙂

Omg Roadie in the basket! Too cute! haha
And I love Sean Kingston! What a great halftime!
Thanks so much for linking up! I hope you’re having an awesome Monday!
Heather
Thanks for hosting! I hope you enjoy your Monday as well 🙂
Elsie @ Sharing Healthiness
Well that is a great weekend! Oh Roadie is adorable! My doggies also love to get snuggly in weird places…once they even snuggled in the bath tub! Too much avocado is NOT possible. The obssession is real 🙂
Heather
It’s the cutest thing. Ha, the bath tub! That’s great.
Amy M4gic
Roadie looks so cute and cuddly all curled up in your laundry basket. And cat-like! I have more than a couple almost identical photos of my cats napping in the laundry. Happy Monday 🙂
Heather
We are convinced he is part human, part cat! Too funny.
cleaneatingveggiegirl
Oh my gosh! That picture of Roadie in the laundry basket is the cutest thing EVER!!! I could totally see my dog doing that. She loves laying in tight spaces and always lays in my parents’ smaller dog’s bed 😉
Heather
Dogs are the best <3
Courtney {Alkeks Abroad}
That skillet looks sooooooo good!
Heather
I need another order of it… like now. So good!
Stacy @ Sweating Tulipz
Roadie is just too cute. I like chocolate + mint, but I’ve gotta be in the mood. That ice cream put me in the mood…thank you! 😉
Heather
Glad to help… or, maybe not in this case! 😉

My dog does the same thing with her paws when its cold – I have to warm them with my gloves to get her to keep walking. It’s also hard to find a jacket for my dog she is built the same as your. I bought a few sweaters and then cut slits near the arms to fit better and at petco they have a jacket with an elastic band that goes aroud the belly
Heather
Aw, poor thing. Great tip, thank you!!
