Hi peeps! I hope your week is flyin’ on by like mine seems to be over here.
In true Hump Day fashion, today I will be linking up with Jenn for another week of What I Ate Wednesday!
After a long weekend of indulging on pretty much what-ever, it felt great to get back to my somewhat normal eating routine yesterday. I say somewhat because we are seriously overdue for a trip to the grocery store. So, I improvised with what I could find until I am able to go later today.
Now lets see what I could come up with for yesterday’s full day of eats…
What I Ate Wednesday Tuesday
Breakfast started similar to a lot of them lately… oatmeal with berries. While I am not normally one to endorse pre-packaged instant oatmeal, Scott happens to love the apple flavor packets. So, I have been throwing the Trader Joe’s Apples & Cinnamon version of it in my cart lately.
Made up of whole grain oats and tart chunks of green apples, I can’t complain too much. They are pretty good!
I was downstairs working on the computer for most of the day and ran back up around 11 a.m. for a snack to hold me over until lunch. I grabbed a generous serving of low-fat cottage cheese (also Trader Joe’s brand) and sprinkled it with ground pepper for my mid-morning snack.
I usually eat some kind of fruit or vegetable with my cottage cheese like peaches, tomato slices, or avocado. But… like I mentioned earlier, the produce was sparse. Plain cottage cheese it was!
I breaked for lunch around 1 p.m. and dove head first into leftovers from the night before. Scott and I met some friends for dinner and against my better judgment I ordered a chicken pesto bowtie pasta.
It was a lot greasier than I expected, so my one order quickly turned into three different meals. As soon as I got home Monday it felt like my stomach started punching itself, so I took a small handful of tums and called it a night. Yup, no more of that nonsense for this girl.
About two hours later, my tummy was rumbling again and I realized I was really craving vegetables. After a scan of the veggie drawer, I pulled out a bag of sweet mini peppers and enjoyed a plate of them dipped into roasted red pepper hummus.
I also sipped on a pomegranate flavored white tea I so happily enjoyed staying warm, thanks to my Mr. Coffee hot plate.
Afternoon tea has been very habit forming, so I allow myself to have as many as I want if they are taken without the sugar and caffeine.
About an hour later, I took Roadie for his late afternoon walk around the neighborhood and caught the sunset.
Although I am freezing most of the time, winter up here has it’s moments.
I exchanged my snow boots for running sneakers and flew back out the door with just enough time to make Fitness Pilates class at the gym. After the amount of nonsense I ate and drank over the weekend, I was in desperate need of a booty whoopin’ and this class always seems to do the trick!
My friend Katlyn met me there and together we also ran a few miles on the treadmill afterwards. I left feeling like I made a huge dent in conquering the weekend indulgences! 😉
Out the door, I had zero motivation to make dinner. I was going to grab a green smoothie on the way out of the gym but just couldn’t picture myself sipping it on the way home in zero degree weather. Seriously. My car temperature gage doesn’t lie, friends.
Ahhh!
Forgoing the smoothie, I drove home and looked for something warm to quench my hunger. Feeling lazy, I turned to a can of turkey chili with beans and enjoyed an apple while I waited for it to get hot.
The rest of my dinner was a straight up hodge podge of randomness. One can turkey chili + two slices of cinnamon raisin Ezekiel toast smeared in cookie and cocoa butter swirl for the win!
Yes, I am still just as obsessed with it as I was a few weeks ago. It’s fine.
And with that, I enjoyed a few episodes of New Girl on the DVR and put myself to bed. Pretty great little Tuesday.
Question of the Day
• What is the strangest combination you put together for dinner lately?
You just witnessed my chili and cinnamon toast concoction. Right behind that has to be my habit of heating up anything in the freezer like mixed vegetables, sweet potato fries, and quinoa burgers… all on the same plate. Honestly, I feel like most of my meals are randomly thrown together! But in some weird way, they usually turn out pretty healthy. Go figure!

Nothing feels better than a day (or several!) of healthy food and a good workout after a few days of indulging. I think this last holiday season was weeks straight of me going overboard, so Ive definitely pulled back a lot in the last 2 weeks and feel much better now!

Hehe the vicious cycle… 😉

Gotta love tough workouts after a weekend of indulging! 🙂 I was never into prepackaged oatmeal either but I got Nature’s Path organic oatmeal packets for free and who am I to turn down free food? 😉
Heather
I do the same thing 😉

I don’t know that I’ve ever found myself craving vegetables…it’s more of a realization that I haven’t had any & should eat some…so I do (sometimes). But then again, it took me years to be able to down a salad, so I’ve made progress! 🙂 By the way, I am a former member of a Lifetime Gym, and I miss their Kickbox Jam class so bad! Have you ever been? Every time I see your pictures, it makes me miss it – the classes, the cafe, the amenities! But the location of my gym is just not covenient so I eventually cancelled my membership. Happy hump day!

That is progress, kudos to you! I haven’t taken that class but it sounds like so much fun! I know… my free membership for dancing ends in April. I just might have to renew on my own! Absolutely love lifetime!
