Stitch Fix Review: Transitioning Into Spring

I’m excited to cover a series that proves to be popular on the blog today.

Welcome back, Stitch Fix!

Regardless of what my skin color is telling me, Spring is officially here. Sunny summer days can’t come quick enough, but I’ll take lighter jackets and transition pieces like ankle booties, jeans, bomber jackets, and detail blouses while I can.

Those who have been reading LIL for years (<- y’all are amazing!) might recall that my Stitch Fix reviews tend to appear on the regular. I was thrilled to get back to a subscription last month, and I let my stylist know that I was looking to update my wardrobe one box of goodies at a time. Typically, I’m on the hunt for casual pieces that I can layer with as well as a few edgy items for date nights and events out in the City.

For those of you who haven’t heard of Stitch Fix, you can read more about how it works here.

Here’s a quick breakdown:

• Sign up and complete a style questionnaire asking your size, weight, height, and style preferences. (This was actually fun to do!) It includes the option to be specific about items you are looking for (blouses, purses, bracelets, etc.) and also lets you set an ideal budget.
• Schedule a date to receive your fix and include notes to your stylist. (Example: I am looking to update my wardrobe with comfy, layering pieces.)
• Using your information sheet as a guide, a Stitch Fix stylist hand-picks five items they think you will like.
• Review your items, try everything on, then decide what you want to keep and what you want to send back!

I really loved this Fix! At first glance, I liked the romper and denim bomber jacket the best. I tried those on first with the peep toe booties, and made a trendy outfit of it with a floppy hat from Brooklyn Industries.

I’m a romper girl through and through. I own a handful of them, and I would love to expand the collection into the upcoming spring and summer seasons. This one, however, didn’t fit in the most flattering way. It’s covered by the jacket (which fit perfectly), so I decided to keep that one to serve as the perfect in-between seasons layering piece and return the romper.

The jacket came pictured with a casual grey top, white jeans, and flat white tennis shoes as a day option, then a t-shirt dress, heeled sandals, and crossbody bag for another. J’adore.

Next up, I put on a pair of Liverpool Skinny Pull-On Jeans from a recent fix (I kept the same jean from a previous fix back in 2015 — they were totally worn out and one of my favorite purchases yet). I really liked the crochet detail blouse, and it fit pretty well.

In the end, I decided to return the blouse to splurge on other items. I semi regret it because I think the crochet detail is super cute.

The last item I tried on was the sueded detail knit tee. I wasn’t sure how I would like it, but I was pleasantly surprised when I put it on. I love how it flows, as well as the open back (pictured above), deeming it a great item to have ready in my closet for a night out. My stylist suggested that I pair it with the medal spike necklace I kept from a Fix last July.

She also suggested that I dress the top with a pair of distressed jeans and booties. I liked that idea, but I also wanted to play with dressing it up with heels. I’m not sure if I could pull that off, but it was fun to try. Either way, I ended up keeping the top for its versatility. It’s a great piece to dress up or down that can be worn many different ways!

 

Overall Review

Stitch Fix is always something that I really look forward to. I missed it during the time I took off from regular fixes, and I’m happy that I’m in a place where I can spend a little more on updating my wardrobe outside of workout gear.

I don’t have quite as much time to document more styling options that come with the style guide included in these Fixes, but I hope to get there someday soon. Until then, please excuse the selfies and subpar lighting that comes as a result of my own iPhone-ography.

I leave more and more feedback with each Fix that I receive, and I feel like my stylist is listening. She mentioned keeping an eye out for edgier pieces in my next Fix, so I’m intrigued to see what that entails.

Also, I’m loving the addition of shoes!
